Toxicity Of Trifluralin On The Embryos And Larvae Of The Red-Bellied Toad, Bombina Bombina, Ferah Sayim
Turkish Journal of Zoology
Many amphibian populations are in decline throughout the world, and one of the most important proposed causes for this decline is agrochemicals, especially pesticides. This study considers the effects of 120 h exposure of embryos and larvae of the red-bellied toad, Bombina bombina, to trifluralin, an herbicide, with renewal acute toxicity tests at 22 ± 1 °C. Adult males and females were induced to breed by gonadotropin injection to obtain test organisms. Lethal concentration values were determined through PROBIT analysis. The 120 h LC_{50} of trifluralin for the larvae was 11.80 mg L^{-1}, while the LC_{50} and EC_{50} for the …

Ontogeny And Funtional Morphology Of A Lower Cretaceous Carpinid Rudist (Bivalvia, Hippuritoida), Robert W. Scott, Meghan Weaver
Turkish Journal of Earth Sciences
Caprinuloidea rudists are locally abundant and widespread in Lower Cretaceous (Albian Stage) Edwards Formation in Texas. Landward of the shelf margin on the shallow marine Comanche Shelf rudists built circular and elongate bioherms with coarse-grained flank deposits. Two caprinid morphotypes suggest that some lived as elevators above the substrate and others were recumbent upon mobile grain flats. Elevators have elongated attached valves and weakly coiled free valves and recumbents have arcuate attached valves and strongly coiled free valves. Detailed morphologic studies are not possible on the many molds and casts, but a few specimens are silicified. Their internal structures can …

Comparative Studies On The Sensitivity Of Polymerase Chain Reaction (Pcr) And Microscopic Examination For The Detection Of Trypanosoma Evansi In Horses, M.A. Muieed, Zafar Iqbal Chaudhry, A. R. Shakoori
Turkish Journal of Veterinary & Animal Sciences
The lack of reliable diagnostic methods is a setback in the effective control of diseases. Diagnosis of Trypanosoma evansi infection (surra) in livestock is of considerable economic importance. Detection of trypanosomes in blood has been the "gold standard"; however, finding the organisms or establishing patency of parasitaemia has not always been possible even in symptomatic infections. As a consequence of low dose infection, the pre-patent period in Trypanosoma evansi may be longer and, even when symptoms have developed, trypanosomes may still not be demonstrable in blood, thus delaying treatment and thereby increasing morbidity and mortality. Trypanosoma evansi, a protozoan parasite …

Cancer And Ovarian Tissue Cryopreservation, Yavuz Emre Şükür, Batuhan Özmen, Murat Sönmezer
Turkish Journal of Medical Sciences
Although ovarian tissue cryopreservation is still accepted as an experimental procedure, it has recently become an increasingly resorted technique in highly specialized in vitro fertilization (IVF) clinics. Its indications include many childhood cancers, breast cancer, some autoimmune diseases, hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, and pelvic radiation therapy due to solid tumors. The chemotherapeutics and radiation therapy may diminish ovarian reserve and cause premature ovarian failure. It currently seems as the only option for fertility preservation in children where ovulation induction is ethically not acceptable, and for those when cytotoxic therapy is urgent. There are 2 main methods for transplantation of frozen-thawed …
