Medical Education In Dallas, 1900-1910, S. W. Geiser Oct 1952

Medical Education In Dallas, 1900-1910, S. W. Geiser

Field and Laboratory

Data are here presented to supplement, amplify, and in some matters to correct the incidental historical content of Carl Moyer's interesting address on "Medical Education in Dallas", written originally for radio presentation. He sets forth in vigorous fashion problems of present-day medical training, and particularly those of the local medical school, of which he was Dean. He spoke with such authority on cur rent problems and achieved his major purpose so well that his historical side-glances, in many respects erroneous, might be uncritically accepted by students of medical history. Moyer's purpose was not historical and his data were prob ably …

The Muscles Of The Forearm Of Necturus, Joseph P. Harris Jr. Jun 1952

The Muscles Of The Forearm Of Necturus, Joseph P. Harris Jr.

Field and Laboratory

Little of a completely satisfactory character has been published on the arm-myology of Necturus. Mivart (1869) dissected a single specimen, and described certain of the foreleg muscles. Ribbing (1906-07) dissected two specimens, and included some notes on the foreleg of Necturus, but most of his paper deals with Siredon and other forms. Wilder (1908, 1912) presented a good account of the muscles of the foreleg, and his descriptions will here be referred to many times. Howell (1936) and Straus (1942) discussed the anatomy of the flexor muscles of the forearm of Necturus; but they were interested in the broader problems …

Notes On The Salamander, Eurycea Longicauda Guttolineata, In Florida, Donald W. Tuttle Jun 1952

Notes On The Salamander, Eurycea Longicauda Guttolineata, In Florida, Donald W. Tuttle

Field and Laboratory

But little work has been published on this subspecies. This study is based on a collection made with Richard E. Etheridge in the summer of 1949. While Carr (1940) lists Eurycea l. guttolineata as uncom mon in Florida, we were able to collect some 180 specimens in the northern part of the State. These are now deposited in our private collections, or in the Tulane University collection.

Papers Presented At The 1952 Meeting Of The Society Of Student Geologists, George Waverly Hall Jr. Jun 1952

Papers Presented At The 1952 Meeting Of The Society Of Student Geologists, George Waverly Hall Jr.

Field and Laboratory

Early this year, graduate students in the Geology Department of Southern Methodist University, aware that there was no adequate student group which could advocate and instigate a desired type of extracurricular geologic program, set about to put such a program in motion. They formed a club to be known as The Society of Student Geologists. They sought to begin a positive program of geologic activity, and to form a true honorary organization to recognize outstanding undergraduates in geology.
