An Evaluation Of The Genotoxic Effects Of Seed Decoction Of Cassia Tora L. (Leguminosae) In Allium Cepa Model, Pallavi Solanke, Mahendra Singh, Hemant Singh Rathore, Anjali Sharma, Mukesh Makwana, Sharad Shrivastava
Ethnobotanical Leaflets
Cytological effects of Cassia tora seed decoction were evaluated in Allium cepa root tip cells. Bulbs were grown in pure tap water (controls, Gr. I) and also in six concentrations (0.15 mg/ml, 0.31 mg/ml, 0.62 mg/ml, 1.25 mg/ml, 2.5 mg/ml and 5 mg/ml) of C.tora seed decoction in tap water (experimental, Grs. II). Parameters of study were 'mean root length' and morphology i.e. colour and shape of root tips at 72 hr of cultivation and 'mitotic Index', chromosomal aberrations and abnormal mitosis at 48 hr of cultivation. Physico-chemical characterization of decoction was also made. No changes in the morphology of …

"Complete Liberty"? Gender, Sexuality, Race, And Social Change On The Lower Columbia River, 1805-1838, Gray H. Whaley
"Complete Liberty"? Gender, Sexuality, Race, And Social Change On The Lower Columbia River, 1805-1838, Gray H. Whaley
Publications
This article analyzes social change in the emerging colonial world of the lower Columbia River from 1805 to 1838, particularly regarding gender and sexuality. It teases out distinctions among formal marriages, informal “custom of the country” arrangements, the exercise of sexual “liberties” by young Chinookan women, and prostitution, revealing much of the complex sexual interactions between natives and newcomers. Such a focus illuminates critical, interpersonal aspects of fur trade society in this region as it developed into a complex colonial milieu, reflecting both indigenous and Western interests. Lower Chinookans adapted slavery and trade practices to accommodate the demands of their …
Influence Of Stress And Dietary Natural-Source Vitamin E On Nonspecific Immunocompetence, Tissue Tocopherol Composition, And Postslaughter Fillet Oxidative Stability In Sunshine Bass, Jesse Trushenski, Christopher Kohler
Influence Of Stress And Dietary Natural-Source Vitamin E On Nonspecific Immunocompetence, Tissue Tocopherol Composition, And Postslaughter Fillet Oxidative Stability In Sunshine Bass, Jesse Trushenski, Christopher Kohler
Publications
We evaluated the effects of stressor exposure and super-requirement levels of RRR-atocopheryl acetate (natural-source vitamin E [NSVE]) on production performance and nonspecific immunocompetency of juvenile sunshine bass (female white bass Morone chrysops X male striped bass M. saxatilis). Stressor exposure elicited physiological changes consistent with the generalized stress response, and the magnitude of responses generally mirrored stressor severity. Stressor exposure resulted in lower fillet peroxides and greater aldehydes after short-term frozen storage, whereas increasing dietary NSVE was associated with a nonsignificant reduction in aldehydes after long-term storage. Fillet a-tocopherol content increased linearly with dietary NSVE, exceeding reported tissue levels …

Ethnobotanical Studies Of Some Important Ferns, Kamini Srivastava
Ethnobotanical Leaflets
The ethnomedicinal value of ferns, used by the tribals of India such as Baiga, Gond, Korawa, Kanwar, Tanwar, Manjhwar, Oraon, Manjhi, Dhanwar, Binjihwar, Agariya, Pando and other people of the world is focused on in the present paper. The tribals frequently use ferns as medicines for the cure of various ailments. The information gathered from them (and also collected from other sources) is herein described.

Production Of Trans-C18:1 And Conjugated Linoleic Acid Production By Ruminal Microbes In Continuous Culture Fermenters Fed Diets Containing Fish Oil And Sun Flower Oil With Decreasing Levels Of Forage, Amer Abughazaleh, B. N. Jacobson
Production Of Trans-C18:1 And Conjugated Linoleic Acid Production By Ruminal Microbes In Continuous Culture Fermenters Fed Diets Containing Fish Oil And Sun Flower Oil With Decreasing Levels Of Forage, Amer Abughazaleh, B. N. Jacobson
Peer-reviewed Articles
Previously, feeding fish oil (FO) and sunflower seeds to dairy cows resulted in the greatest increases in the concentrations of vaccenic acid (VA, t11 C18:1) and conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in milk fat. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of forage level in diets containing FO and sunflower oil (SFO) on the production of trans C18:1 and CLA by mixed ruminal microbes. A dual-flow continuous culture system consisting of three fermenters was used in a 3 × 3 Latin-square design. Treatments consisted of (1) 75:25 forage:concentrate (HF); (2) 50:50 forage:concentrate (MF); and (3) 25:75 forage:concentrate (LF). …

Indirect Interactions Among Dendrophages: Porcupines Predispose Pinyon Pines To Bark Beetle Attack, Linda M. Ilse, Eric C. Hellgren
Indirect Interactions Among Dendrophages: Porcupines Predispose Pinyon Pines To Bark Beetle Attack, Linda M. Ilse, Eric C. Hellgren
Publications
Discerning linkages among trophic levels and untangling indirect interactions is essential to understanding structuring of communities and ecosystems. Indeed, indirect interactions among disparate taxa are often essential to the functional role of these species. The goal of this research was to test the hypothesis that the relationship between 2 dendrophagous taxa, the North American porcupine (Erethizon dorsatum) and the pine engraver beetle (Ips hoppingi), is an asymmetric indirect interaction mediated by a common host. We proposed that damage by the porcupine predisposes the papershell pinyon pine (Pinus remota) to colonization by pine engraver beetles. …
