The Impact Of Media On Body Images Of Young Women, Brittani D. Wynn
The Impact Of Media On Body Images Of Young Women, Brittani D. Wynn
Research Papers
Extensive literature has focused on the media influences on the body images of women. This is a quantitative study that examines the relationship between the impact that media has had on women and their body image as adolescents, as well as their current relationship with the media and their body image. It also examines if women feel that the media accurately portrays women in magazines and TV shows, and if they are influenced by the images in following them and changing their lifestyles to look like them. One hundred and fifty-one women studying at a university were surveyed over the …

LA HEGEMONÍA MASCULINA EN ESPAÑA DURANTE EN SIGLO XVIII.
MAJOR PROFESSOR: DR.

Selling Nostalgia: Mad Men, Postmodernism And Neoliberalism, Deborah Tudor
Selling Nostalgia: Mad Men, Postmodernism And Neoliberalism, Deborah Tudor
Neoliberalism and Media
Postmodernity, the cultural mode of neoliberalism reduces history to a set of discourses with the concomitant assertion that the individual’s knowledge of the real emerges from an engagement with images of the real The economic structures of neoliberalism encourage rugged individualism, self-reliance, and assert a spurious gender equality. Mad Men, a contemporary media product situated in media-derived nostalgia demonstrates how audiences read the past through the postmodern, neoliberal discourse of style. These readings encourage an ahistorical understanding of gender and class that reinforces neoliberal suppression of people as members of political classes. Instead, we understand the protagonist as someone …

Home And Identity: Displacement, Belonging, And Hybridity In International Students On U.S. Campuses, Jana Simonis
Research Papers
International students, through a process of cross-cultural adaptation and acculturation, create a hybridized identity that helps them in their negotiation between different cultural membership roles. Hybrid cultural identity roles were detected in the participants to varying degrees, depending on age, the intention with which the student came to the United States, the exposure to American culture, and the social ties formed during the intercultural experience. Hybridization can pose potential struggles for the students which include, but are not limited to, identity confusion, displacement, and not knowing where one belongs. Social support systems, consisting of other international students, co-nationals, U.S. - …

The Unintended Consequences Of Social Media On Media-Raised Generation, Elijah N. Odundo
The Unintended Consequences Of Social Media On Media-Raised Generation, Elijah N. Odundo
Research Papers
While there are promising benefits to using social media as a tool of productivity and expression, “media-raised” generation needs to understand the truths of social media in order to avoid the unintended consequences that are inherent in its use. One of the first truths about social media is the ability to conveniently enable conversations and sharing of information among targeted audience. However, when social media gets to know its users so well then there should be some cautionary measures that needs to be taken to avoid the unintended consequences. Some teens describe becoming so hooked on online social networking that …
