Yellow Ore, Yellow Hair, Yellow Pine: A Photographic Study Of A Century Of Forest Ecology, R. R. Progluske, R. H. Sowell

Research Bulletins of the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station (1887-2011)

This is an attempt to show man's impact on the Black Hills, a natural forest in western South Dakota and eastern Wyoming. This region up to less than a century ago was under "total management" by Nature through rain, hail, snow and ice storms, tornadoes, ravages of insects, and frequent fires caused by lightning or by humans.
Although the Black Hills are not historically old in terms of settlement by the white man, geologically they are among the earth'.s oldest features in North America. Ponderosa pine appears to have been the natural dominant forest for eons. This prevailing forest, together …

History And Acculturation Of The Dakota Indians, James L. Satterlee Dr.

Agricultural Experiment Station Rural Sociology Pamphlets (1940-1977)

Since the first printing of a publication in 1956 entitled Acculturation of the Dakota Indians, a steady demand has been made upon the Department of Rural Sociology for copies. SDSU Extension Fact Sheets

Infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) was first recognized as an acute respiratory disease of beef cattle in Colorado feedlots, but is now seen in cattle in nearly every state. Although most often diagnosed in feedlot cattle, this virus disease is not limited to beef or feeder cattle. There is no apparent difference in susceptibility between breeds, sexes, or ages. IBR may occur during any season of the year but is more frequent in the fall and early winter when there is greater movement of cattle.

Pheasant Reproduction And Survival As Related To Agricultural Fertilizer Use, Lawrence Francis Fredrickson Jan 1974

Pheasant Reproduction And Survival As Related To Agricultural Fertilizer Use, Lawrence Francis Fredrickson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Wing-clipped wild pheasants (Phasianus colchicus) were stocked in 1-acre and 0.5-acre pens having oat and bromegrass cover in 1972 and 1973 to test effects of fertilizer (Formulations: 34-0-0, 18-46-0, 0-46- 0, and 0-0-60) on pheasant reproduction and survival. One-half of the pens were fertilized with the recommended rate of pelleted fertilizer and the other half without fertilizer. Complete nest searches in July showed that nesting success was not significantly different (P>0.05) between treatments for both years. No significant difference (P>0.05) was found in clutch size or in number of ovulated follicles from control and experimental hens. Significantly more …
