Carpets -- Soiling And Cleaning, Cooperative Extension South Dakota State University
SDSU Extension Fact Sheets
Color is often the main reason for selecting a particular carpet. The color may match the draperies, upholstery or other decor, but remember, the soil or dirt tracked onto the carpet can hide this color. So when selecting a carpet and its color, consider the type of soil that will be tracked onto it, and how you plan to care for it.

Seasonal And Regional Differences In The Composition Of Cows' Milk In South Dakota, Yee Jeng-Jung, Kenneth Spurgeon
Seasonal And Regional Differences In The Composition Of Cows' Milk In South Dakota, Yee Jeng-Jung, Kenneth Spurgeon
Agricultural Experiment Station Technical Bulletins (1939-2011)
Payment for milk on the basis of fat content has been the common practice for many decades. Very logically the fat and/or SNF content will affect the yield of manufactured dairy products made from a given supply of milk. The Dairy Science Department at South Dakota State University has received reports of lower than average product yields in some dairy plants in the state. Such low product yields have occurred most often during summer months. An investigation was conducted to determine in detail the characteristic composition of milk from various parts of South Dakota during the four seasons of the …

Effect Of Grazing Intensity And Range Condition On Hydrology Of Western South Dakota Ranges, C. L. Hanson, A. R. Kuhlman, J. K. Lewis
Effect Of Grazing Intensity And Range Condition On Hydrology Of Western South Dakota Ranges, C. L. Hanson, A. R. Kuhlman, J. K. Lewis
Research Bulletins of the South Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station (1887-2011)
Range livestock production is a primary industry in the Northern Great Plains. Efficiency of operation is important in this industry because of current low livestock prices, couples with the high cost of necessary inputs. Proper stocking rate is the most important single factor affecting sustained net returns from South Dakota rangeland. Stocking rates which are too light result in lowered income. In contrast, heavy grazing results in a damages resource and poorer range condition. Summarized here are 10 years of a continuing study, initiated in 1963 on experimental pastures of the Range and Livestock Experiment Station, Cottonwood, South Dakota. This …

Large Hay Packages: Harvesting Through Feeding, Cooperative Extension South Dakota State University
Large Hay Packages: Harvesting Through Feeding, Cooperative Extension South Dakota State University
SDSU Extension Fact Sheets
Until a few years ago, most hay was handled as small rectangular bales or large loose hay stacks. The new large hay packages offer the producer additional alternatives for hay handling. This Fact Sheet discusses some of the features and costs of these new systems as compared to the traditional handling systems. Included are some principles which apply to haying systems in general.

Heat Detection, Cooperative Extension South Dakota State University
Heat Detection, Cooperative Extension South Dakota State University
SDSU Extension Fact Sheets
Standing heat (estrus) is the time when the cow stands to be mounted by other cows or a bull. The heat (estrous) cycle (number of days from one standing heat to the next) of the cow averages 21 days. Heat cycle length is usually consistent for an individual animal, but can vary from 17 to 24 days. The average cow will be in standing heat for about 14 hours. Some animals may stand for only 4 hours; others as long as 24 hours.
