Significance of problem: The rise in the number of pediatric patients seen for abuse is alarming.1 More than 7 million reports for maltreatment were made to Child Protective Services in 2021.2 Rates of reported abuse were 8.1 per 1000, with 16% of these identified as non-accidental trauma (NAT) and the greater incidence happening to those 1 year or younger.3,4 One to two deaths per day are attributed to NAT in the US.5 System improvements in emergency rooms (ER) and hospitals, such as implementing screening tools or protocols, are crucial for early detection and prevention of NAT. …

Workplace Incivility And Its Impact On Vulnerability And Well-Being Of Nursing Faculty In Japan, Miwako Hoshi, Namiko Kawamura, Takumi Yoshino, Melissa Dyo

Research Design: This research was a non-experimental descriptive study.
Subjects: A convenience sampling method was employed in this study, resulting in a total of 455 nursing faculty across Japan. The participants consisted of 52 males (10.4%) and 341 females (68.1%) with a mean age of 47.2 years (SD = 9.68). Regarding their academic positions, 94 were professors (18.8%), 68 were associate professors (13.6%), 82 were (senior) assistant professors (16.4%), 113 were (junior) assistant professors (22.6%), and 41 were research associates (8.2%).

Community-engaged initiatives are recognized as promising strategies for addressing disparities in mental health outcomes in resource-constrained settings. An understanding of the scope/effectiveness of these initiatives in diverse contexts remains limited. Our international team systematically examined community-engaged mental health and wellbeing programs in Low-Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) and under-resourced settings in High-Income Countries (HICs), evaluating level of community engagement and impact on mental health outcomes.

Introduction: Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (ENDS, commonly known as e-cigarettes) use has increased rapidly among young adults (YAs, 18-24 years) in rural communities. E-cigarette use is a higher risk factor for both cardiovascular and pulmonary diseases. Addressing the disturbing rates of e-cigarette use in YAs requires cessation resources to be available and accessible. Regrettably, rural community residents have limited access to cessation resources. Introduction: This research is in response to the human trafficking (HT) crisis. HT affects an estimated 30 million people worldwide. Nurses are one of the few constant contacts within the hospital for these isolated victims. HT patients may feel protected under the trusted care of nurses (Morris, 2023). Raker (2023) found that “academic nursing programs represent an ideal environment to deliver human trafficking training to future graduate nurses.” The limited instruction for students led us to create an HT simulation that is being taught in a senior level nursing course.

The purpose of this study was to identify and describe the types and outcomes of undergraduate nursing honors research programs in the U.S.
Methods: A qualitative descriptive design using content analysis for data analysis. The purpose of this study was to explore the effectiveness of an interdisciplinary tabletop simulation on student learning outcomes and American Association of Colleges of Nursing core competences related to disaster preparedness.
Nurses deliver a variety of services in the community and acute care settings and have historically been highly active in volunteerism. Disaster preparedness education can prepare future nurses to meet the needs of their communities during these emergency situations. Temporary, non-tunneled central venous catheters (CVCs) are commonly used for vascular access in patients with vesicant infusion needs or difficult intravenous access (DIVA). However, CVCs are associated with primary bloodstream infections (BSIs), contributing to significant morbidity, mortality, and financial burdens. At our institution, central line-associated bloodstream infection (CLABSI) rates and central utilization ratios have steadily increased since 2023, rising from 0.43 to 0.75 and 0.17 to 0.21, respectively, despite system-wide infection prevention initiatives. Recognizing the limitations of current approaches, particularly for DIVA patients, midlines emerged as an alternative to both CVCs and ultrasound-guided peripheral IVs (USG-PIVs).

Purpose: Efficient patient flow is critical for managing capacity and delivering timely, equitable care in emergency departments (EDs). As patient acuity and census increased at Stanford Health Care (SHC), traditional Fast Track spaces were reassigned to higher-acuity patients, leaving lower-acuity patients with prolonged lengths of stay (LOS). Prolonged LOS increases the risk of patients leaving without treatment, impacting care outcomes. To address this, SHC’s Digital Health team and Emergency Services leadership developed an innovative Virtual Fast Track care framework using telehealth technology and multidisciplinary workflows.

Introduction: Meaningful recognition confirms the value of nurses’,environments that acknowledge this influence a healthy workplace. Applying quadruple aim framework, optimizing healthcare system outcomes places wellbeing in the forefront and supports fostering resilience, hardiness, interprofessional collaboration and engagement, augmenting the work setting.

Introduction: Service-learning (SL) integrates purposeful and immersive community-based experiences into the curriculum while addressing health disparities.1,2 Growing evidence from North America shows that academic service-learning nursing partnerships can lead to impactful change.3 Yet, the need to integrate SL into the curriculum must be informed by country-specific, regional evidence.

Background: The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality emphasized the assessment of the patients’ experiences along with other factors such as effectiveness and safety of care when demonstrating health care quality. To accurately gauge the patient’s experience, health care institutions must ask patients whether events in a healthcare setting occurred and how frequently they are with providers and the credentials of those providers.

Objective: This study aimed to determine local factors that promote or prevent parents’ responsible use of antibiotics for their children in Perth, Western Australia.
Methods: The Health Belief Model was used to guide this study. Four focus group discussions were conducted, with 26 participants. Participants were recruited purposively through a parent group organisation. The Framework Method was utilised to analyse the data.
Results: Participants agreed that antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a serious health problem. However, participants admitted that they lacked awareness of AMR, inhibiting their ability to assess the risks of developing AMR infections among their children. …
