Understanding The Unique Needs, Experiences And Strategies Used By Icu Nurses To Be Resilient During The Covid-19 Pandemic, Teenu Xavier
Dissertations
The COVID-19 pandemic presented numerous challenges for nurses working in intensive care units (ICUs), leading to a significant impact on their mental and psychological well-being. Despite these challenges, resilience is recognized as a protective factor for ICU nurses that can enhance the well-being of healthcare professionals and enable them to cope effectively with stressors and challenges. But there is a gap in the literature about the experiences, unique needs, and resilience strategies used by ICU nurses in the United States (U.S.).
The purpose of this dissertation research was to complete three interrelated projects in order to gain a better understanding …

Perceptions Of Teaching Effectiveness Of Part-Time And Full-Time Clinical Nursing Faculty Of Bsn Education, Kimberly L. De Santis
Perceptions Of Teaching Effectiveness Of Part-Time And Full-Time Clinical Nursing Faculty Of Bsn Education, Kimberly L. De Santis
Dissertations
The United States faces a critical shortage of full-time registered nurses, which is directly affected by the shortage of nurse educators. Many schools of nursing are already seeing the impact as qualified program applicants are being turned away due to the lack of qualified educators available to teach them. The trend has become to employ increasing numbers of part-time faculty who have a clinical focus in their education. There is much debate about the clinical teaching effectiveness of part-time faculty. One way to assess quality of education is to assess teacher effectiveness. The purpose of this quantitative, descriptive, study was …

A Critical Examination Of Clinical Teaching In Undergraduate Nurse Education, Lisa Mckenna
A Critical Examination Of Clinical Teaching In Undergraduate Nurse Education, Lisa Mckenna
Dissertations
Clinical education is an integral part of undergraduate nurse education. Whilst extensive research has explored roles of clinical teachers and clinical teaching, largely through perceptions of their effectiveness, little is known from clinical teachers about how they perceive their work, factors that shape their work, and what clinical teachers themselves shape. It is the development of clinical teaching both from historical and current perspectives that formed the basis for this unique study which adds new understandings to existing knowledge around this important area of nurse education.
Recovery From A Coronary Event: Understanding The Nature Of The Patient's Journey, Laura P. Rossi
Recovery From A Coronary Event: Understanding The Nature Of The Patient's Journey, Laura P. Rossi
Dissertations
As new technology has improved the diagnosis and treatments of acute coronary syndrome (ACS), our understanding of how patients recover and return to their daily life is limited. The fast pace with which individuals move through the health care system has produced a new set of patient experiences for which systems and providers are unprepared. Life after ACS and current treatment may be very different from prior understandings of recovery after a heart attack. This study explored the trajectories of recovery following ACS and identified implications for effective care planning.

Integrating Lgbtqia2s+ Cultural Care Concepts Within Nursing Curriculum, Laura Smith, Jessica Huber
DNP and Student Works
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex, asexual, two-spirit, plus (LGBTQIA2S+) individuals face health disparities due to social stigmas and discrimination in health care settings. National organizations and accreditation bodies have called attention to this concern, making LGBTQIA2S+ health promotion an initiative to improve health outcomes. Unfortunately, delaying and/or avoiding health care still exists within the LGBTQIA2S+ population. Primary factors of this include mistrust of the healthcare system and providers' lack of knowledge regarding culturally competent care. LGBTQIA2S+ cultural care concepts are lacking in health care curriculum and education. Both faculty and healthcare providers report feeling a lack of competence and …

A High-Fidelity Simulation To Improve Decision-Making Skills In Baccalaureate Nursing Students, Stacy A. Gilson
General Submissions: Academic Settings and Education-based Materials
Quality care, patient safety and population health are required competencies for baccalaureate nursing program education. Faculty designed a mass casualty incident simulation for senior baccalaureate nursing students to exemplify this proficiency and prepare students in their final semester of nursing school for situations that may necessitate rapid assessment and triage of multiple patients. All students either agreed or strongly agreed that the simulation allowed the opportunity to learn to prioritize nursing care and created more confidence in decision-making skills. Creative utilization of simulation is a cost-effective and valuable way to place students in real-life scenarios to foster this development.
