Hippocrates And Nightingale: Ancient Medicine And Modern Nursing, Callie Wiedle Aug 2025

Hippocrates And Nightingale: Ancient Medicine And Modern Nursing, Callie Wiedle

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

This presentation aims to examine and understand the influence that Hippocrates’ fundamental theories of medicine had on Florence Nightingale’s development of modern nursing care. Hippocrates has gained the nickname “the father of modern medicine” and Nightingale has claimed the title “the mother of modern nursing”. This presentation will argue that without Hipporcates’ revolutionary ideas in medicine the framework of modern nursing would have taken much longer to develop, if it was ever developed into what we know today. Nightingale took Hippocrates’ revolutionary ideas regarding hygiene, the environment, and holistic patient care; and adapted them into the systematic approach to modern …

Education, Evaluation, And Impact Of A Delegation Learning Session In The Care Pair Model, Tiffany Michelle Whitney

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

This study examines the relationship of a structured educational intervention related to registered nurse (RN) delegated practice within the Care Pair Model (CPM) in a medical-surgical unit for its potential to expand the utilization of Nursing Assistants (NAs) in the nursing shortage in health care. CPM employs NAs as complement staff for RNs thus shortening workloads and improving patient care but relies on the RN's ability to communicate clearly and delegate responsibilities. A literature review done identifies that there is a gap in available information about CPM and delegation and thus this study looks at the educational intervention of delegation. …

These challenges are particularly acute in the nursing workforce, which is already grappling with significant shortages of practicing nurses and faculty. Out of this critical concern the Mindfulness and Movement project was cultivated by nursing faculty, both of whom are practicing mental health professionals and …

Oncology Caregiver Wellness Series: Boosting Resilience And Combating Burnout, Pakeeza Ali, Miles Kotchevar Aug 2025

Oncology Caregiver Wellness Series: Boosting Resilience And Combating Burnout, Pakeeza Ali, Miles Kotchevar

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

Burnout is an increasingly pressing issue in healthcare, especially for oncology caregiver teams who face immense emotional and physical demands. While wellness programs are often introduced to address burnout, the lack of clear definitions for both burnout and wellness makes it difficult to design effective solutions. Many wellness initiatives, though well-intended, fail to address the daily stresses caregivers face, particularly during crises like the COVID-19 pandemic.

From a leadership perspective, the issue becomes even more complex. As healthcare costs rise and take up a larger share of the economy, organizations are pressured to increase productivity and maximize staff efficiency. Unfortunately, …

The Art Of Saying No: Empowering Nurses To Set Boundaries For Well-Being, Sara Kaylor, Abby Horton, Haley Townsend, Meridith Rice, Susan Prevost

Creating Healthy Work Environments (CHWE)

The nursing profession, long dominated by women, is shaped by societal norms that encourage selflessness and compliance, leading nurses to prioritize others over their own well-being. This expectation to always say yes, coupled with the demands of various practice settings, contributes to burnout and stress. This presentation advocates for a feminist approach to boundary-setting, offering strategies to help nurses confidently say no, establish healthy boundaries, and maintain a balanced career.
