Brewing Community: A Qualitative Case Study Examination Of The Campus Pub As Part Of Campus Ecology, Patrick Mcdermott
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
The purpose of this qualitative case study was to understand the perceptions of the role of the campus pub through the lens of campus ecology theory. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with student affairs professionals at three institutions with campus pubs. Documents were also collected and analyzed from campus newspapers and social media at these institutions. Analysis identified several salient themes that support the understanding of the campus pub through the lens of campus ecology hierarchy (Strange & Banning, 2001). The themes that emerged included the evolution of the pub, community/programming, diversity/cultural emphasis, education, student employment, institutional cost/revenue, safety, …
Role Overload And Perceived Stress In U.S. Police Officers: A Replication Study, Michelle A. Hanna Collins
Role Overload And Perceived Stress In U.S. Police Officers: A Replication Study, Michelle A. Hanna Collins
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
The current study sought to replicate a prior study (Duxbury & Halinski, 2018), conducted with Canadian police officers, to further explore the generalizability of their theoretical model of work- and family-role overload as sources of stress for male and female police officers in the United States. The Canadian study supported the proposed relationships between work-role overload, including four antecedents (Competing Demands, Outside Work of One’s Mandate, Non-supportive Culture, Employed Hours Worked), family-role overload (Dependent Care Hours), and police officer stress. A total of 357 United States law enforcement officers participated in the present study. A multivariate analysis was conducted utilizing …

Administrators’ Perceptions Of School Resource Officers’ Preparedness To Work With Black Girls, Kashon N. Lopes
Seton Hall University Dissertations and Theses (ETDs)
School safety is a topic of concern across the nation today because images of mass shootings and violence in schools receive heavy media coverage. Different strategies have been enacted to keep people safe including metal detectors, video surveillance, strict discipline policies, and armed personnel. Some of these strategies such as zero tolerance policies and school resource officers have received scrutiny from activist groups such the American Civil Liberties Union because they are attributed with the trend known as the school-to-prison pipeline (ACLU, 2013). This trend poses that strict policies and the presence of law enforcement in schools pushes minority children …
