Biogenic Sinking Particle Fluxes And Sediment Trap Collection Efficiency At Ocean Station Papa, Margaret Estapa, Ken Buesseler, Colleen A. Durkin, Melissa Omand, Claudia R. Benitez-Nelson, Montserrat Roca-Martí, Elly Breves, R. P. Kelly, Steve Pike Jun 2021

Biogenic Sinking Particle Fluxes And Sediment Trap Collection Efficiency At Ocean Station Papa, Margaret Estapa, Ken Buesseler, Colleen A. Durkin, Melissa Omand, Claudia R. Benitez-Nelson, Montserrat Roca-Martí, Elly Breves, R. P. Kelly, Steve Pike

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Comprehensive field observations characterizing the biological carbon pump (BCP) provide the foundation needed to constrain mechanistic models of downward particulate organic carbon (POC) flux in the ocean. Sediment traps were deployed three times during the EXport Processes in the Ocean from RemoTe Sensing campaign at Ocean Station Papa in August-September 2018. We propose a new method to correct sediment trap sample contamination by zooplankton “swimmers.” We consider the advantages of polyacrylamide gel collectors to constrain swimmer influence and estimate the magnitude of possible trap biases. Measured sediment trap fluxes of thorium-234 are compared to water column measurements to assess trap …

Sinking Diatom Assemblages As A Key Driver For Deep Carbon And Silicon Export In The Scotia Sea (Southern Ocean), D. Zúñiga, A. Sanchez-Vidal, M. M. Flexas, D. Carroll, M. M. Rufino, G. Spreen, A. Calafat, F. Abrantes

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Physical and biogeochemical processes in the Southern Ocean are fundamental for modulating global climate. In this context, a process-based understanding of how Antarctic diatoms control primary production and carbon export, and hence global-ocean carbon sequestration, has been identified as a scientific priority. Here we use novel sediment trap observations in combination with a data-assimilative ocean biogeochemistry model (ECCO-Darwin) to understand how environmental conditions trigger diatom ecology in the iron-fertilized southern Scotia Sea. We unravel the role of diatoms assemblage in controlling the biogeochemistry of sinking material escaping from the euphotic zone, and discuss the link between changes in upper-ocean environmental …

Knowledge Mapping, Intellectual Capital And Organizational Intelligence, Gautam Gogoi, Dr. Pranab Kr. Barooah

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Knowledge management initiatives rely on maps to locate internal knowledge, similar to how an explorer in the wilderness follows a map. Knowledge maps, like travel maps, are static. A knowledge map is a “snapshot in time” that helps businesses understand and organize knowledge assets. It's anything but an express model inside a business cycle of who has the information, where the information is found, and why it is significant. Perhaps the most well known strategies for recognizing information in associations is information planning. It can help chiefs to all the more likely comprehend the information stream inside the associations. Planning …
