How Are Mcps Doing On Achieving Assessed Calaim Requirements? A Comparative Analysis Of Selected Not-For-Profit, Publicly Governed Health Plans In California, Junell Chen

Master's Projects

At the heart of a larger societal movement, the imperative to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is a resounding call to action across all sectors. This pressing concern underscores the need for proactive and equity-centric solutions, including within the American healthcare system. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has been instrumental in shaping policies and initiatives, such as Healthy People, aimed at promoting health equity and reducing health disparities. Similarly, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has instituted supplementary compliance requirements to hold healthcare stakeholders accountable for implementing equitable programs designed to eliminate health disparities …

Electron-Induced Chemical Transformations In Polymer Films: Understanding The Role Of Electrons In Euv Lithography, Maximillian Mueller Jan 2024

Electron-Induced Chemical Transformations In Polymer Films: Understanding The Role Of Electrons In Euv Lithography, Maximillian Mueller

Master's Theses

The next generation of computer processors, memory, and nano-scale technologies all rely on our ability to create patterns at the nanometer scale reliably. Extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithography can create sub-10 nm features by exposing photoresist materials, typically polymers or organic networks, to 13.5 nm, 92 eV light. At these energies, absorption of photons by the photoresist leads to the emission of a primary electron around 80 eV which inelastically scatters throughout the material, initiating chemistry and creating secondary electrons. The resulting cascade of electrons and chemical reactions remains poorly understood for most photoresist materials systems. This work aims to characterize …

The Moderating Role Of Job Insecurity On The Relationship Between Psychological Contract Breach And Employee Turnover Intention, Madeline R. Clark Jan 2024

The Moderating Role Of Job Insecurity On The Relationship Between Psychological Contract Breach And Employee Turnover Intention, Madeline R. Clark

Master's Theses

The intentions for an employee to voluntarily leave their position at an organization has been widely researched, given it is a strong determinant of actual employee turnover. Psychological contract breach (PCB), an employee’s perception that their organization has failed to fulfill its promises or obligations, has been identified as a known predictor of employee turnover intention. While various moderators of the relationship between PCB and turnover intention have been explored in previous research, current literature had yet to examine how the job insecurity employees experience might be associated with this relationship. Therefore, the present study examined job insecurity as a …

The objective of this study was to develop a closed-loop system for a commercial fused filament fabrication printer based on visual machine learning inspection of common defects. Convolutional neural network was used to identify levels of common defects: stringing, over/under-extrusion, and weak infill. Transfer learning was used to adapt a pre-trained model to fit this problem, as it involves incrementally fine-tuning the model parameters to new data. The observation model achieved an accuracy of 92.86% on validation data set and 90.0% on the testing data set. By modifying the input G-code, the custom program could adjust the feed-rate, nozzle temperature, …

Topological Models Of Abstract Commensurators, Edgar A. Bering, Daniel Studenmund Jan 2024

Topological Models Of Abstract Commensurators, Edgar A. Bering, Daniel Studenmund

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

The full solenoid over a topological space X is the inverse limit of all finite covers. When X is a compact Hausdorff space admitting a locally path-connected universal cover, we relate the pointed homotopy equivalences of the full solenoid to the abstract commensurator of the fundamental group π1(X). The relationship is an isomorphism when X is an aspherical CW complex. If X is additionally a geodesic metric space and π1(X) is residually finite, we show that this topological model is compatible with the realization of the abstract commensurator as a subgroup of the quasi-isometry group of π1(X). This is a …

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

The adaptive mechanical properties of soft and fibrous biological materials are relevant to their functionality. The emergence of the macroscopic response of these materials to external stress and intrinsic cell traction from local deformations of their structural components is not well understood. Here, we investigate the nonlinear elastic behavior of blood clots by combining microscopy, rheology, and an elastic network model that incorporates the stretching, bending, and buckling of constituent fibrin fibers. By inhibiting fibrin cross-linking in blood clots, we observe an anomalous softening regime in the macroscopic shear response as well as a reduction in platelet-induced clot contractility. Our …

Enhancing Diagnostic Accuracy: A Hybrid Approach To Mitigate Speckle And Rician Noise In Medical Images, Naveenkumar Jayakumar, Saurabh Saoji, Sagar V. Joshi, Hemlata Mane, Roshni Narkhede, Shrikant Jadhav

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

This research explores the detrimental effects of Rician and speckle noise in medical imaging, particularly within MRI and radiographic modalities. Such noise can significantly obscure critical details, potentially leading to misdiagnoses and inaccurate measurements. Rician noise candidly dangles on the signal strength. Removing this noise affects the origial information in image that makes this noise removal perplexing. On other hand speckle noise is visualised like granular clog in ultrasound imageries. It creates ambiguous details and edges in the images. To address this challenge, the study introduces a novel hybrid method implemented in Java. The method employs a frequency-based decomposition approach …

Multi-Robot Source Seeking And Field Reconstruction Of Spatial-Temporal Varying Fields, Deepak Talwar, Thinh Lu, Divyam Sobti, Wencen Wu Jan 2024

Multi-Robot Source Seeking And Field Reconstruction Of Spatial-Temporal Varying Fields, Deepak Talwar, Thinh Lu, Divyam Sobti, Wencen Wu

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

To effectively respond to environmental disasters, real-time monitoring and pollution control rely heavily on the ability to estimate, predict, and reconstruct constantly changing environmental conditions across different locations. In this research, we develop a multi-robot source-seeking and field reconstruction framework that enables a multi-robot group to detect multiple sources within a spatial-temporal varying field and reconstruct the field in real time. The strategy consists of two parts: source seeking and field reconstruction. The source-seeking part features a gradient-based source-seeking controller that directs the multi-robot group toward local sources and a destination selection algorithm that navigates the multi-robot formation beyond the …

Tensor Z -Transform, Shih Yu Chang, Hsiao Chun Wu Jan 2024

Tensor Z -Transform, Shih Yu Chang, Hsiao Chun Wu

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

The multi-input multioutput (MIMO) systems involving multirelational signals generated from distributed sources have been emerging as the most generalized model in practice. The existing work for characterizing such a MIMO system is to build a corresponding transform tensor, each of whose entries turns out to be the individual z-transform of a discrete-time impulse response sequence. However, when a MIMO system has a global feedback mechanism, which also involves multirelational signals, the aforementioned individual z-transforms of the overall transfer tensor are quite difficult to formulate. Therefore, a new mathematical framework to govern both feedforward and feedback MIMO systems is in crucial …

Tiktok As Social Communication Tool To Encourage Participation In Volunteering Projects, Belén Moreno-Albarracín, Tania Blanco-Sánchez Jan 2024

Tiktok As Social Communication Tool To Encourage Participation In Volunteering Projects, Belén Moreno-Albarracín, Tania Blanco-Sánchez

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Social media are regarded as tools of communication and social influence. Notwithstanding this, TikTok’s majority audience in 2023 is made up of members of generations Z and Alpha, associated in previous studies with a participatory crisis. Given this contradiction, a research question is proposed: do young people use TikTok to consolidate social values such as solidarity? To answer it, the main objective is to analyse the use of TikTok as an instrument for youth participation in volunteer projects. A mixed methodology is used, based on a content analysis of the 150 videos uploaded to TikTok with the hashtag #voluntariado and …

Dispersal Limits Poleward Expansion Of Mangroves On The West Coast Of North America, Kyle C. Cavanaugh, Dustin Carroll, Rémi Bardou, Tom Van Der Stocken Jan 2024

Dispersal Limits Poleward Expansion Of Mangroves On The West Coast Of North America, Kyle C. Cavanaugh, Dustin Carroll, Rémi Bardou, Tom Van Der Stocken

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

While much attention has been paid to the climatic controls of species' range limits, other factors such as dispersal limitation are also important. Temperature is an important control of the distribution of coastal mangrove forests, and mangrove expansion at multiple poleward range limits has been linked to increasing temperatures. However, mangrove abundances at other poleward range limits have been surprisingly insensitive to climate change, indicating other drivers of range limitation. For example, along the west coast of North America, the poleward mangrove range limits are found on the Baja California and mainland coasts of Mexico, between 26°48ʹ and 30°18ʹN. Non-climatic …

After publication of our paper Reconfigurations in brain networks upon awakening from slow wave sleep: Interventions and implications in neural communication, we noticed an error in our condition labels that required some revision of figures and text and some new interpretations throughout the manuscript. The error was a consequence of the double-blind nature of the original experimentation which contained two interventions: (1) a blue-enriched light intervention, as originally mentioned; and (2) an olfactory odorant condition. In review of previous analyses and presentations of the data, there was a time when non-descriptive labels (e.g., “A”, “B”) were accidentally swapped, indicating the …

Marine protected areas (MPAs) globally serve conservation and fisheries management goals, generating positive effects in some marine ecosystems. Surf zones and sandy beaches, critical ecotones bridging land and sea, play a pivotal role in the life cycles of numerous fish species and serve as prime areas for subsistence and recreational fishing. Despite their significance, these areas remain understudied when evaluating the effects of MPAs. We compared surf zone fish assemblages inside and outside MPAs across 3 bioregions in California (USA). Using seines and baited remote underwater videos (BRUVs), we found differences in surf zone fish inside and outside MPAs in …

Lithium And Water: Hydrosocial Impacts Across The Life Cycle Of Energy Storage, James J.A. Blair, Noel Vineyard, Dustin Mulvaney, Alida Cantor, Ali Sharbat, Kate Berry, Elizabeth Bartholomew, Ariana Firebaugh Ornelas

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

As a key ingredient of batteries for electric vehicles (EVs), lithium plays a significant role in climate change mitigation, but lithium has considerable impacts on water and society across its life cycle. Upstream extraction methods—including open-pit mining, brine evaporation, and novel direct lithium extraction (DLE)—and downstream processes present different impacts on both the quantity and quality of water resources, leading to water depletion and contamination. Regarding upstream extraction, it is critical for a comprehensive assessment of lithium's life cycle to include cumulative impacts related not only to freshwater, but also mineralized or saline groundwater, also known as brine. Legal frameworks …

Machine learning has proven to be a valuable tool for automated malware detection, but machine learning systems have also been shown to be subject to adversarial attacks. This paper summarizes and compares related work on generating adversarial malware samples, specifically malicious Windows Portable Executable files. In contrast with previous research, we not only compare generators of adversarial malware examples theoretically, but we also provide an experimental comparison and evaluation for practical usability. We use gradient-based, evolutionary-based, and reinforcement-based approaches to create adversarial samples, which we test against selected antivirus products. The results show that applying optimized modifications to previously detected …

Salt marshes exist at the terrestrial-marine interface, providing important ecosystem services such as nutrient cycling and carbon sequestration. Tidal inputs play a dominant role in salt marsh porewater mixing, and terrestrially derived freshwater inputs are increasingly recognized as important sources of water and solutes to intertidal wetlands. However, there remains a critical gap in understanding the role of freshwater inputs on salt marsh hydrology, and how this may impact marsh subsurface salinity and plant productivity. Here, we address this knowledge gap by examining the hydrologic behavior, porewater salinity, and pickleweed (Sarcocornia pacifica also known as Salicornia pacifica) plant productivity along …
