Estimating Uncertainty In Density Surface Models, David L. Miller, Elizabeth A. Becker, Karin A. Forney, Jason J. Roberts, Ana Cañadas, Robert S. Schick

Providing uncertainty estimates for predictions derived from species distribution models is essential for management but there is little guidance on potential sources of uncertainty in predictions and how best to combine these. Here we show where uncertainty can arise in density surface models (a multi-stage spatial modelling approach for distance sampling data), focussing on cetacean density modelling. We propose an extensible, modular, hybrid analytical-simulation approach to encapsulate these sources. We provide example analyses of fin whales Balaenoptera physalus in the California Current Ecosystem.

The energy-water nexus (i.e., availability of potable water and clean energy) is among the most important problems currently facing society. Ammonia is a carbon-free fuel that has the potential to reduce the carbon footprint in combustion related vehicles. However, ammonia production processes typically have their own carbon footprint and do not necessarily come from sustainable sources. This research examines wastewater filtration processes to harvest ammonia for transportation processes. The research team studied mock wastewater solutions and was able to achieve ammonia concentrations above 80%(nanofiltration) and 90% (reverse osmosis). Violence is an antisocial behaviour which is intended to hurt and inflict pain on victims. This study therefore empirically investigated the librarians’ perception of violence on the student librarians. The study employed descriptive survey design while the study was guided by five research questions based on the objectives of the study as well as one null hypothesis. The English Quaker and linen-draper Jonathan Dymond (1796-1828) is best known for his strong philosophic articulation of the testimony against war. The first American edition of Dymond’s work, though, was published not by Quakers but by a small group of activist-thinkers in north-eastern Connecticut, the Windham County Peace Society, which issued a thousand copies of Dymond’s The Applicability of the Pacific Principles of the New Testament to the Conduct of States in the spring of 1832. A generative adversarial network (GAN) is a powerful machine learning concept where both a generative and discriminative model are trained simultaneously. A recent trend in malware research consists of treating executables as images and employing image-based analysis techniques. In this research, we generate fake malware images using GANs, and we also consider the effectiveness of GANs for malware classification. Specifically, we consider auxiliary classifier GAN (AC-GAN), which enables us to work with multiclass data. Automated techniques to classify malware samples into their respective families are critical in cybersecurity. Previously research applied ��-means clustering to scores generated by hidden Markov models (HMM) as a means of dealing with the malware classification problem. In this research, we follow a somewhat similar approach, but instead of using HMMs to generate scores, we directly cluster the HMMs themselves. We obtain good results on a challenging malware dataset.

This study aims a bibliometric analysis of the 100 top-cited articles extracted from the Web of Science database on the topic of information security in the business context. A retrospective method was applied to the dataset extracted from the Web of Science Database. A total of 500 most cited items were downloaded and the authors selected the articles related to information security and business for further analysis. It was found that the top-cited papers were published between the years 1990 and 2018 and had received 3,375 citations.
