This study is based on the technology acceptance model by integrating the internet self-efficacy (ISE) as an antecedent to determine students’ behavioral intention (BI) in adopting internet for their scholarly activities. To achieve this objective a structured questionnaire composed of 26 items that represented five constructs, namely, perceived usefulness (PU) perceived ease of using (PEOU), Attitude towards using internet (ATI) behavioral intention towards internet (BI), and Internet self-efficacy (ISE) were distributed among four-hundred and forty-eight students from technical; management and health science stream. The data is further analyzed using structural equation modeling. The findings of the study suggest that ISE …

The right to obtain a good and healthy environment is a constitutional right of citizens expressly regulated in the 1945 Constitution of the Republic of Indonesia. However, this right has not been fully felt due to forest and land burning activities that occur every year in Sumatra and Kalimantan. For this reason, a condition for law enforcement is needed to solve the problem. This study basically answered two questions on how important is progressive law enforcement in burning forests? What is the concept of progressive law enforcement as intended?. Therefore, the findings stated that first, progressive law enforcement on forest-burning …

Citation Rates For Ohio State Graduate Theses & Dissertations: Trends, Surprises, And Inaccuracies, Daniel S. Dotson
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The Ohio State University’s holdings of graduate theses and dissertations were examined to determine if highly-downloaded titles tended to be highly-cited. The study found that citation rates were highly variable and did not necessarily correspond to download rates. This included very highly downloaded titles with low citation rates, and lesser-downloaded titles with high citation rates. The study found that Google Scholar, which was used to identify citation rates, too often counts theses and dissertations as a version of a different work with the same title, even if it is another format and sometimes with additional authors. This article will share …

Using an experimental method, we examined the effects of local female celebrity Instagram images on women’s body satisfaction and self-esteem among groups of young Nigerian women. Result showed that women reported the highest self-esteem and body satisfaction when viewing thin-ideal images, but self-esteem and body satisfaction decreased after viewing plump ideal images, followed by neutral images. Additionally, while state appearance comparison was found as a partial mediator of the effects of image type on body satisfaction and self-esteem, extent of celebrity worship fully mediated these effects. Nonetheless, the intensity of Instagram and other SNSs use did not mediate the effects …

The collaboration is perceived as an effort in enhancing the capabilities and is also considered as a mechanism for information sharing. It is generally accepted that scientific collaboration is beneficial to both less advanced countries and highly industrialized countries. Normally collaborative coefficient, Degree of collaboration, modified collaborative coefficient, collaborative index were used to measure the collaborated papers. The collaborated papers reach and unreach index was identified in this study. Similarly, RF factors of authorship pattern of collaborated research publications were identified. Further, whether collaborated papers reach the user or solo research paper reach the user were analysed.

Previous research has recognized the importance of edges to crime. Various scholars have explored how one specific type of edges such as physical edges or social edges affect crime, but rarely investigated the importance of the composite edge effect. To address this gap, this study introduces nightlight data from the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite sensor on the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership Satellite (NPP-VIIRS) to measure composite edges. This study defines edges as nightlight gradients—the maximum change of nightlight from a pixel to its neighbors. Using nightlight gradients and other control variables at the tract level, this study applies negative …

Using Object-Oriented Classification For Coastal Management In The East Central Coast Of Florida: A Quantitative Comparison Between Uav, Satellite, And Aerial Data, Bo Yang, Timothy L. Hawthorne, Hannah Torres, Michael Feinman

High resolution mapping of coastal habitats is invaluable for resource inventory, change detection, and inventory of aquaculture applications. However, coastal areas, especially the interior of mangroves, are often difficult to access. An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), equipped with a multispectral sensor, affords an opportunity to improve upon satellite imagery for coastal management because of the very high spatial resolution, multispectral capability, and opportunity to collect real-time observations. Despite the recent and rapid development of UAV mapping applications, few articles have quantitatively compared how much improvement there is of UAV multispectral mapping methods compared to more conventional remote sensing data such …
