Lc-Ms/Ms Method Development For The Quantitation Of Methylmalonic Acid Using Aqueous Normal Phase Chromatography, Daniel Joseph Biocini
Lc-Ms/Ms Method Development For The Quantitation Of Methylmalonic Acid Using Aqueous Normal Phase Chromatography, Daniel Joseph Biocini
Master's Theses
The aim of the study was to develop a quantitative assay for methylmalonic acid (MMA), an important biomarker for clinical diagnosis of vitamin B12 (B12) deficiency. The techniques of liquid chromatography and tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) are used for separation and quantitation of MMA, as well as its endogenous isomer succinic acid. The MS/MS method was developed using an infusion set-up and manual tuning experiments. Relevant transitions were detected for the two analytes and MMA-d3, then a preliminary MS/MS method was developed. The preliminary LC method was further optimized. Various gradients, mobile phases (MPs), and additive combinations were used across …
Inducing The Overview Effect Using Virtual Reality, Nhat Quang Le
Inducing The Overview Effect Using Virtual Reality, Nhat Quang Le
Master's Theses
Astronauts who return from space missions have reported and demonstrated a significant increase in their feelings of connection to humanity and the planet. This shift towards a more humanistic, global perspective in astronauts was termed the “overview effect” by White (2014). There is a lack of research on the overview effect despite the significant, positive changes in those who have experienced it. This study aims to provide empirical evidence of and a possible induction method for the overview effect. We hypothesized that it might be possible to induce the overview effect using virtual reality (VR). In the current study, 81 …

The Relationship Between Authentic Leadership And Organizational Change Readiness: The Mediating Role Of Psychological Safety, Paulina Christine Manzano
Master's Theses
The purpose of the current study was to examine the mediating effect of psychological safety on the relationship between authentic leadership and organizational change readiness in the workplace. In other words, the more employees perceived their leadership to be authentic, the more likely employees felt safe taking risks at work, which in turn, increased employees’ emotional and cognitive inclination to adopt and embrace organizational change. Based on these findings, organizations …

Participants included 315 adolescents aged 13-18 in the United States, who completed questionnaires on parenting styles (i.e., authoritative, authoritarian, permissive), media-specific parenting practices (i.e., active conversational practices, coercive monitoring, preventive practices), and their depression, self-esteem, and risky media usage. Findings indicated all three parenting styles were associated with adolescent exposure to risk through media, but only authoritarian and permissive were related to internet addiction. Across parenting styles, adolescents with parents who engaged in high compared …
The Moderating Role Of Agreeableness And Conscientiousness On The Relationships Between Burnout And Withdrawal Behaviors, Nikoo Samee
Master's Theses
It has been shown that employees who experience burnout are more likely to engage in withdrawal behaviors, which are behaviors that harm the morale of employees and the bottom line of an organization. There has been some research on the moderating effect of situational variables (e.g., leadership style) on the relationship between burnout and withdrawal behaviors, but there is a lack of research on how personal characteristics may play a role in such relationships. The purpose of this study was to examine the moderating role of agreeableness and conscientiousness on the relationship between burnout and three withdrawal behaviors: lateness, absenteeism, …

The Relationship Between Diversity Climate Perceptions And Organizational Citizenship Behavior And Work Engagement: The Mediating Role Of Overall Organizational Justice, Arika Nakajima Higgins
Master's Theses
Employees’ perceptions concerning their organization’s diversity climate have important implications for both the organization and the individual. Diversity climate research has traditionally focused on exploring the moderators of the relationship between diversity climate perceptions and the attitudinal outcomes of employees; however, research has neglected to examine behavioral outcomes and the potential mediators of the relationship. Therefore, the present study explored the indirect effects of overall organizational justice on the relationship between diversity climate perceptions and organizational citizenship behavior and work engagement. It was hypothesized that diversity climate perceptions would be positively related to organizational citizenship behavior and work engagement. It …

Understanding Child Noncompliance In The Early Care Setting, Melody Mann
McNair Research Journal SJSU
This study examines how teachers respond to children’s noncompliance in early care settings. This structured observational study will focus on the moment to moment interactions occurring within the preschool classroom between both the child and teacher. It is predicted that (1) teacher’s direct bids to children will promote greater instances of child compliance than indirect bids, and (2) teachers’ responsive language will promote greater instances of child compliance than restrictive language. The results of this study will contribute to existing knowledge about the nature of teacher child interactions in the early care settings.
Behavioral Economic Analysis Of Demand For Hypothetical Work Performance: A Partial Replication, Hifsa Khan
Behavioral Economic Analysis Of Demand For Hypothetical Work Performance: A Partial Replication, Hifsa Khan
McNair Research Journal SJSU
Operant behavioral economics is a field that analyzes human decision making by combining concepts of behavioral psychology and consumer demand theory. A relatively new and effective method of collecting data in behavioral economics is the hypothetical purchase task (HPT), which reveals consumers’ demand for a commodity as price increases by asking participants to respond to hypothetical situations rather than having them work for and consume the commodity. Henley, Reed, Kaplan, and Reed (2016) extended the HPT to create a novel task (the Hypothetical Work Task; HWT) to assess workers’ demand for payment under increasing conditions of work effort. Their study …

The goal of this paper is to illustrate the importance of choosing love as a means of resistance and as a practice for teaching transdisciplinary praxis. Historically, scholarship conducted on Black love did not incorporate the multidimensionality that blackness spans. It placed a focus on the relationships between Black males and females through a sociocultural lens examining factors such as Black male viability, Black male scarcity, and the impact systemic structures have on Black males. This emphasis placed on the Black …
