Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The internet technology has revolutionized the teaching and learning methods, and appropriate use of the technology is critical for University students. The unprecedented growth of information on internet necessitates the continual evaluation from time to time how students have embraced the technology. Thus, the research explored the pattern of internet usage by students of Federal University Oye-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. The research approach adopted for the study was descriptive survey in which a questionnaire was used as the research instrument to collect data from 200 undergraduates selected by stratified random sampling from the four faculties in the university, with a …

Scientometric Methods For The Evaluation Of Hemophilia Research, Vellaichamy Alagarsamy, Jeyshankar Ramalingam
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This article attempts to highlight quantitatively the growth and development of world literature on hemophilia in terms of publications output as per SCOPUS database (2003-2017). During 2003-2017 a total of 13503 papers were published by the scientists in the field of hemophilia. The average number of publications published per year was 900. The highest number of publications 1095 was published in 2012. Out of 13503 contributions, only 18.48% (2495 papers) of single authored and rest of 11008 papers (81.52%) were multi authored. The study identifies active institutions and country-wise distributions of hemophilia research output. The yearly analysis of data shows …

Globally, extreme poverty remains an enormous socioeconomic and multifaceted challenge, which has a ripple effect on other factors that affect the quality of life of citizens. Continuing and expanding on the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), the United Nations (UN) developed the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs aimed at improving the livelihood of citizens by entrenching human development particularly in poor and developing countries. This is a conceptual paper based on the document analysis or literature review. The article is aimed at analysing information sources and highlights new frontiers community libraries can play in assisting the general South African public to be …
Can Using A Smartphone Application Improve The Ability Of Law Enforcement Officers To Recognize Commercially Sexually Exploited Children And Report Them To Child Welfare Authorities?, Sheree Goldman
Doctoral Projects
The commercial sexual exploitation of children (CSEC) is a crime of abuse that is frequently unrecognized because mandated reporters may be unfamiliar with the indicators. Commercially sexually exploited minors participate in sex acts in exchange for money, goods, or services. At least 200,000 American children are believed to be victims of this crime each year (County Welfare Director Association of California, 2015). Victims often go undiscovered and experience significant health issues. A public health model is used to explain the context of victimization and the need for interdisciplinary collaboration to discover victims and connect them with needed services. A randomized …

Hud’S Transitional Housing Unit Program’S Role In The Santa Clara County Community Plan To End Homelessness, Emilie Thorburn-Quihuis
Master's Projects
Counties in California invest local, state, and federal funds to try to end homelessness. At present the homeless numbers in Santa Clara County are among the highest in the U.S. at 6,556, with 33% of those being chronically homeless. Using process evaluation to compare permanent housing and shelter demographics and recurrence rates, how is the federal Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Transitional Housing Units Program (THU) in Santa Clara County meeting the goals of the county’s Community Plan to End Homelessness 2015-2020 (2013)?

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Abstract
This research adopted a survey design which sought information from respondents on the Information needs and seeking behaviour of practising nurses in Nigeria: the case of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Ihiala. The population comprised fifty-two (52) practising nurses in Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Ihiala. There was no sampling because the whole population was studied since it is small and manageable. The nominal role of Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital was used to derive the population of the study. A questionnaire entitled “Information Seeking Behaviour of Nurses Questionnaire (ISBNQ)” was developed by the researcher, validated by experts and …
Obstetric Nurses’ Perceived Barriers To Immediate Skin To Skin Contact After Cesarean Birth, Joelene Sarmiento Balatero
Obstetric Nurses’ Perceived Barriers To Immediate Skin To Skin Contact After Cesarean Birth, Joelene Sarmiento Balatero
Doctoral Projects
Despite the strong evidence supporting immediate skin to skin contact (SSC) after birth, research suggests that patients who undergo cesarean births do not have the same opportunities for SSC as patients who undergo vaginal births. There are limited studies regarding provider attitudes surrounding the practice of immediate SSC after cesarean birth. The aim of this research was to understand obstetric nurses’ perceived barriers to immediate SSC after cesarean section.
An exploratory qualitative design was used for the project. The semi-structured, open-ended interviews were conducted via video conferencing. Conventional content analysis methods were used to analyze the data, which yielded the …

Specialization can make animals vulnerable to rapid environmental changes. For long-lived seabirds, foraging specialization may make individuals especially sensitive, as climatic changes are currently occurring over the course of one lifetime. The Bering Sea is a dynamic subarctic and arctic ecosystem where windblown sea ice mediates annual productivity and subsequent pathways to upper trophic levels. Red-legged kittiwakes Rissa brevirostris are endemic surface foraging seabirds specializing on myctophid fishes during reproduction. Their degree of specialization outside the breeding season is less understood. We examined their non-breeding ecology (migration, distribution, isotopic niche) during 4 winters with varying sea ice extent. Although we …

Prevalence And Prevention Of Diabetes In School Age Children: A Parent Education Module, Christine Mary Whitmyer
Doctoral Projects
The Center for Disease Control reports that there continues to be an increasing number of children being diagnosed with childhood-onset Type Two Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM). The recommendation is to provide education to parents regarding the risks and possible risk factors of T2DM, and strategies to prevent and treat these risk factors (Center for Disease Control [CDC], 2014). Educating parents of school age children on T2DM risk factors, and prevention practices may help to slow down this rising number of new cases. The Aim is to provide educational modules that may increase knowledge, which could in-turn change behavior, that may prevent …

The purpose of this project is to better understand the potential negative impact of longer commute times on work-related health complaints and its relationship with frequency of work-related injuries among general assembly workers from various factories in the Bay Area. Companies in the United States seek to reduce the cost of work-related injuries by investigating the causes of and implementing necessary programs in their workplaces. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are about 115,000 employees who spend more than 90 minutes commuting to their jobs in the San Francisco Bay and San Jose Silicon Valley areas (2013). Immature Lucilia sericata (Meigen) raised on beef liver, beef heart, pork liver and pork heart at a mean temperature of 20.6°C took a minimum of 20 days to complete development. Minimum development time differences within stages were observed between the meat types (pork/beef), but not the organ types (liver/heart). Daily hyperspectral measurements were conducted and a functional regression was completed to examine the main effects of meat and organ type on daily spectral measurements. The model examined post feeding larval spectral measurements of insects raised on beef liver alone, the effect of those raised on pork compared with those raised …
