Information-Seeking Behavior Of Multicultural Students: A Case Study At San Jose State University, Mengxiong Liu, Bernice Redfern
Information-Seeking Behavior Of Multicultural Students: A Case Study At San Jose State University, Mengxiong Liu, Bernice Redfern
Faculty and Staff Publications
In 1995 a survey was conducted on the campus of San Jose State University where, for the first time, so-called minorities made up 50.7 percent of the total student population. Asian students compose the largest group among other ethnic groups. The study shows that students who use English as their primary language are usually more successful in using the library than those who use English as a second language. Length of stay in the United States also affects how often students use the library, as well as their behavior in asking reference questions. The survey found that Asian students are …

Application Of Intelligent Agent Techniques In Manufacturing Integration, Prithish Negi
Application Of Intelligent Agent Techniques In Manufacturing Integration, Prithish Negi
Master's Projects
This project presents an object-oriented model for manufacturing integration utilizing Intelligent Agent techniques. The integration requirements are determined by increasing productivity, flexibility and quality demand. The model is based on the concept of Intelligent agents supporting various activities. The complex manufacturing functions are broken down into elemental tasks. An agent then automates the task. An Intelligent Agent is an autonomous software program that can operate independently and usually remotely. Agents can communicate with each other, human beings, machines and other resources such as databases. The use of standardized means of communication through widely accepted protocols is recommended. Agents have been …
Advanced Brushless Spindle Motors In Computer Hard Disk Drives, Bao Trinh
Advanced Brushless Spindle Motors In Computer Hard Disk Drives, Bao Trinh
Master's Projects
The trend of increasing storage capacity and decreasing form factor is still a key challenge in hard disk drive (HDD) development. The next generation models of high performance hard drives will require spindle motors of higher speed with low cogging torque and ripples to reduce vibration and be able to pack more data tracks. The main causes of vibration in the spindle motor, which results in acoustic noise in the drive are the defects of rolling ball bearing and magnet-pole/stator-slot configurations. This thesis project focuses on the slotless stator and non-contact bearing in the spindle motor. Some fundamental aspects of …
Brownfields: Revitalizing Contaminated Properties, Monique A. Mayeaux
Brownfields: Revitalizing Contaminated Properties, Monique A. Mayeaux
Master's Projects
The idea of infill development is not new to planners and developers. Given today’s economic climate and growing awareness to prevent sprawl, especially in places such as the San Francisco Bay Area, this concept of infill development has truly come of age. Developing on land within the urban areas where the infrastructure is already in place is considered sustainable growth.
A brownfield is the term coined to describe a plot of land that Is vacant or underutilized due to real or perceived environmental contamination. These lots are typically commercial or Industrial properties, most often located within urban and economically distressed …
The Regulation Of Adult Uses, Karina Rizk
The Regulation Of Adult Uses, Karina Rizk
Master's Projects
This report presents the history of adult use regulation and the contemporary problems associated with defending the regulation of adult-oriented uses. Adult-oriented uses have been linked with increased crime rates, lower property values, and the degradation of a community's quality of life. These pernicious effects have prompted communities to take action through land use controls. Many jurisdictions struggle with the regulation of adult-oriented businesses, not only because of the land use and related social issues, but because the regulation touches on Issues of free speech and First Amendment rights.
This report presents the ordinance that was prepared for the City …
