Impact Of The Internet On Research Effort Of Academics At Abia State University, Uturu, (Absu), Cpc Onwubiko
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
This paper is on the impact of the Internet on the research effort of academics at Abia State University Uturu. The Internet has become an invaluable tool for teaching, learning and research. The benefits are so enormous that there is no sphere of life without the Internet application. This is certainly true for tertiary institutions. Premised on this consciousness, the descriptive survey research method was adopted in carrying out the study, with the questionnaire as the sole instrument for data collection. The study was guided by six objectives. The findings of the study revealed that there is no felt need …

This study identifies social representations in interviews about alcohol and substance use in the discourse of 129 young adults, who were interviewed for 2.5 to 3.5 hr each for their life histories and use or nonuse of alcoholic beverages and drugs. Respondents spontaneously delineated their substance use boundaries, creating a continuum of behaviors with boundary points separating acceptable from unacceptable behaviors. They used signaling expressions to indicate go and stop signs and movement along the substance use continuum and reported negotiating substance use boundaries both internally and with peers. A ubiquitous narrative element was the cautionary tale, in which a …

Correspondence through email has become a very significant way of communication at workplaces. Information of most kinds such as text, video and audio can be shared through email, the most common being text. With confidential data being easily sharable through this method most companies monitor the emails, thus invading the privacy of employees. To avoid secret information from being disclosed it can be encrypted. Encryption hides the data effectively but this makes the data look important and hence prone to attacks to decrypt the information. It also makes it obvious that there is secret information being transferred. The most effective …
Extraction Of Semantics From Primitive Concepts, Chak Li
Extraction Of Semantics From Primitive Concepts, Chak Li
Master's Projects
bstract Due to the need to organize a vast amount of documents available in the Internet, the automated semantic extraction representing webpages has become a popular research topic in both industry and academia. The purpose of this project is to introduce a new method to process documents to extract the original contextual representations and yet to extend additional and connect similar representations based on the semantics underneath the extracted representations in an automatic fashion. Among the purposed steps, the core of this project is to tackle the difficulty to construct a mechanism in which machines can computationally understand the lexical …

Excursus On "Hapa;" Or The Fate Of Identity, Nicole Myoshi Rabin
Excursus On "Hapa;" Or The Fate Of Identity, Nicole Myoshi Rabin
Asian American Literature: Discourses & Pedagogies
This paper focuses on the contradictions and tensions inherent in self-identification and oppositional identities. In the past twenty years, Hapa has emerged as an oppositional identity used by mixed-race Asian Americans. While many scholars have noted the tension of the term for its linguistic appropriation from the Native Hawaiian language, fewer scholars have concentrated their examinations on the ways in which the term reproduces the very notions it aims to subvert. This paper concentrates on the areas of contradiction inherent in finding and using "a word of power" and making that word into a recognizable identity.

Question Answering System Using Open Source Software, Gaurav Gangwal
Master's Projects
To get the answers of a question there are lots of search engine availbale. But the problem with the search engine is that instead of giving a straight forrward answer they usually gives the links/URL to the webpages which might have the answers. Instead of providing links Question Answering System will provide the straighforward answer to user's question. Tasks intended by the project : • Takes question as an input from the user. • Analyses the sentiment behinds the question. • Lookover the information availbale in the knowledge base related to question. • Compute the answer of the question from …

The proliferation of blogs and social networks presents a new set of challenges and opportunities in the way information is searched and retrieved. Even though facts still play a very important role when information is sought on a topic, opinions have become increasingly important as well. Opinions expressed in blogs and social networks are playing an important role influencing everything from the products people buy to the presidential candidate they support. Thus, there is a need for a new type of search engine which will not only retrieve facts, but will also enable the retrieval of opinions. Such a search …

In 2009, more than 3.69 million students attended college outside their native country. (OECD 2011, 318) The largest percentage, 17%, or 623,119 of these students, chose to come to American universities. (Institute of International Education 2010a) The next three most popular destination countries were the United Kingdom with 13%, France with 8%, and Germany, also with 8%. (Bhandari 2009) International students and their families contributed $18.77 billion to the U.S. economy in tuition, fees, and living expenses. The three largest recipients were California with $2.834 billion, New York with $2.296 billion, and Texas with $1.2585 billion. (NAFSA 2011) The …

Introduction
For a long time, India has been generating a great deal of scholarly resources in all disciplines. After independence, there was a lot of investment in science and technology, and S&T were used to leverage development efforts and to improve the standard of living. However, one in four Indians still lives below the poverty line. There is a considerable research effort in a wide variety of areas including science, technology, medicine, humanities and social sciences. Research is performed essentially in three sectors: (1) higher educational institutions, such as universities and deemed universities (2) laboratories under different government agencies such …

Master's Projects
nformation Classification is the categorization of the huge amount of data in an efficient and useful way. In the current scenario data is growing exponentially due to the rise of internet rich applications. One such source of information is the blogs. Blogs are web logs maintained by their authors that contain information related to a certain topic and also contain authors view about that topic. Micro blogs, on the other hands, are variations of blogs that contain smaller data as compared to blogs. Nevertheless, it also contains rich information. In this project, Twitter, a micro blogging website has been targeted …

Knowledge Engineering In Search Engines, Yun-Chieh Lin
Master's Projects
With large amounts of information being exchanged on the Internet, search engines have become the most popular tools for helping users to search and filter this information. However, keyword-based search engines sometimes obtain information, which does not meet user’ needs. Some of them are even irrelevant to what the user queries. When the users get query results, they have to read and organize them by themselves. It is not easy for users to handle information when a search engine returns several million results. This project uses a granular computing approach to find knowledge structures of a search engine. The project …

This project aims to design, develop, and test Information Summarization System with its mobile application, which will allow end user the quick mobile access to underlying data on the web. The mobile application allows users to search for information about topic of their interest. This application will make use of existing established search engines to summarize the information on requested topic. The computation will be done on the cloud and communication between client and server will be done …
Cross-Lingual Text Classification With Model Translation And Document Translation, Zhang Zhang
Cross-Lingual Text Classification With Model Translation And Document Translation, Zhang Zhang
Master's Projects
Most enterprise search engines employ data mining classifiers to classify documents. Along with the economic globalization, many companies are starting to have overseas branches or divisions. Those branches are using local languages in documents and emails. When a classifier tries to categorize those documents in another language, the trained model in mono-lingual will not work. The most direct solution would be to translate those documents in other languages into one language by the machine translator. But this solution suffers from inaccuracy of the machine translation, and the over-head work is economically inefficient. Another approach is to translate the feature extracted …

The Martin Luther King, Jr. Library at San Jose State University is a unique combination of both academic and public library. The academic library has a special place on the college campus in the United States; usually, it is centrally located on the university as a primary place of convergence. The King Library offers space for everybody’s use. This presentation provided information on the initial analysis for data collected in a study of the “library as place” and SJSU students' perceptions regarding their sense of belonging towards the King Library building. The study had three goals: 1) Learn about the …
