Evaluating Machine Learning Performance In Predicting Injury Severity In Agribusiness Industries, Fatemeh Davoudi Kakhki, Steven Freeman, Gretchen Mosher
Faculty Publications
Although machine learning methods have been used as an outcome prediction tool in many fields, their utilization in predicting incident outcome in occupational safety is relatively new. This study tests the performance of machine learning techniques in modeling and predicting occupational incidents severity with respect to accessible information of injured workers in agribusiness industries using workers’ compensation claims. More than 33,000 incidents within agribusiness industries in the Midwest of the United States for 2008–2016 were analyzed. The total cost of incidents was extracted and classified from workers’ compensation claims. Supervised machine learning algorithms for classification (support vector machines with linear, …

Pantomime: The History And Metamorphosis Of A Theatrical Ideology, Karl E. Toepfer
Open Educational Resources
This book offers perhaps the most comprehensive history of pantomime ever written. No other book so thoroughly examines the varieties of pantomimic performance from the early Roman Empire, when the term “pantomime” came into use, until the present. After thoroughly examining the complexities and startlingly imaginative performance strategies of Roman pantomime, the author identifies the peculiar political circumstances that revived and shaped pantomime in France and Austria in the eighteenth century, leading to the Pierrot obsession in the nineteenth century. Modernist aesthetics awakened a huge, highly diverse fascination with pantomime. The book explores an extraordinary variety of modernist and postmodern …

Using Object-Oriented Classification For Coastal Management In The East Central Coast Of Florida: A Quantitative Comparison Between Uav, Satellite, And Aerial Data, Bo Yang, Timothy L. Hawthorne, Hannah Torres, Michael Feinman
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
High resolution mapping of coastal habitats is invaluable for resource inventory, change detection, and inventory of aquaculture applications. However, coastal areas, especially the interior of mangroves, are often difficult to access. An Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), equipped with a multispectral sensor, affords an opportunity to improve upon satellite imagery for coastal management because of the very high spatial resolution, multispectral capability, and opportunity to collect real-time observations. Despite the recent and rapid development of UAV mapping applications, few articles have quantitatively compared how much improvement there is of UAV multispectral mapping methods compared to more conventional remote sensing data such …

Even though the growth of radio networks in Indonesia has only reached number 15, these networks have branches in all major cities by transferring the ownership of local radios. Radio network is regulated but only in terms of quantity and share of ownership. Broadcast licenses are issued only for limited areas, but with the development of technology, broadcast coverage area becomes unlimited. The 2002 Indonesian Broadcasting Law No.32 manages the amount of local content percentage, and regulatory process and actions for violating local content regulations are difficult to do. Presently, information professionals are progressively dependent on information and communication technologies to complete their everyday tasks. As, result dependence on PC frameworks, programming and data innovation-related technologies are increasing for better working and providing quality services. Therefore, to understand, analyze and evaluate the acceptance and use of this technology several models of technology acceptance and use have been formulated in information science literature. Using eight such models, Venkatesh, Morris, Davis and Davis proposed a unified model called the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology or (UTAUT) model. The UTAUT model has been studied and analyzed in various spheres …

Background
At present, over 215 million people live outside their countries of birth, many of which are referred to as diaspora—those that live in host countries but maintain strong sentimental and material links with their countries of origin, their homelands. The critical shortage of Human Resources for Health (HRH) in many developing countries remains a barrier to attaining their health system goals. Usage of medical diaspora can be one way to meet this need. A growing number of policy-makers have come to acknowledge that medical diaspora can play a vital role in the development of their homeland’s health workforce capacity. …

Lobbying And Advocacy As Marketing Strategies For Library Survival In Nigeria, Tofi Simon Ternenge Cln
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
ABSTRACT:
Library is meant to be keenly involved in social, economic, cultural and lifelong learning of the people. It is the only institution that offers free access to knowledge to both high and the lowly citizens. Yet it is not accorded high priority in planning and development by governing institutions. Libraries have always had to justify their existence to sponsor as they are not considered as ‘essential’ as compared to sectors like health, education, roads, etc. It is now time for librarians to rethink what library is all about, what is needed, what will be used and what is sustainable …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The need to properly edit typed-written manuscripts before they are published is not new in the academic circles. What is relatively new is that editing tasks can be handled with the aid of a word processor through “Track Changes,” a useful feature on Microsoft Word which keeps track of the editors activities on the drafts. This paper examines the practice of editing scholarly communication vis-à-vis the application of modern technologies to ensure manuscripts meet acceptable publishing requirements in all matters of grammar, usage, style, diction, spelling, punctuation, among others.

Patients entering an inpatient psychiatry program (N = 406) with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders reported on their social support networks (source, type) at treatment intake, and completed symptom measures at baseline and 3-, 9-, and 15-month follow-ups (77%). Longitudinal growth models found aspects of participants’ support networks were associated with specific symptoms over time. Less family support (i.e., more conflict) was the most consistent predictor of mental health and substance use outcomes and was associated with greater psychiatric, depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and drug use severity. More peer support (via mutual-help involvement) was associated with …
