A Bibliometric Analysis Of Soil Pollution Due To Microplastics, Sangita Dike, Sayali Apte
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Microplastic pollution is a global problem because of its ecological and socioeconomic impacts on the environment. The large size plastic waste, under the action of ultraviolet radiation, pressure, and wind or wave action, breaks down into particles smaller than 5 mm referred to as microplastic. This huge amount of microplastic enters the ecosystem eventually leading to soil pollution. It has been established that microplastics enter the food chain when animals eat or ingest contaminated food materials.and have an adverse effect on human health The present paper investigates, past researches in the area of microplastic pollution of soil, by a detailed …

Homelessness And Nonrecreational Camping On National Forests And Grasslands In The United States: Law Enforcement Perspectives And Regional Trends, Lee K. Cerveny, Joshua W.R. Baur
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
National forest law enforcement officers regularly encounter "nonrecreational"campers whose tenure exceeds established stay limits (generally 2 weeks). Some long-term occupants are homeless and seek use of the forest as a temporary or long-term residence. Long-term nonrecreational campers present myriad concerns for forest officials, who seek to balance public access and resource conservation. In addition to biophysical impacts because of waste, disposal of chemicals, soil compaction, and damage to vegetation, nonrecreational campers can alter the social environment being shared with other forest visitors. For this exploratory study, US Forest Service law enforcement officers (n = 290) were surveyed to assess officer …

Increasing soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks in agricultural soils can contribute to stabilizing or even lowering atmospheric greenhouse gas (GHG) concentrations. Cover crop rotation has been shown to increase SOC and provide productivity benefits for agriculture. Here we used a split field design to evaluate the short-term effect of cover crop on SOC distribution and chemistry using a combination of bulk, isotopic, and spectroscopic analyses of size-and density-separated soil aggregates. Macroaggregates (>250 µm) incorporated additional plant material with cover crop as evidenced by more negative δ13C values (−25.4%∘ with cover crop compared to −25.1%∘without cover crop) and increased phenolic …
