A Bibliometric Analysis Of Distributed Incremental Clustering On Images, Ayushi Agrawal, Preeti Mulay, Krithika Iyer, Saloni Sarbhai

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)

Unstructured information is continuously irregular and streaming information from such a sequence is tedious because it lacks labels and accumulates with time. This is possible using Incremental Clustering algorithms that use previously learned information to accommodate new data and avoid retraining. This paper therefore seeks to understand the status of "Distributed Incremental Clustering" on images with text and numerical values, its limitations, scope, and other details to devise a better algorithm in future. To further enhance the analysis, we have also included methodology, which can be used to perform clustering on images or documents based on its content.

Significant research in this area is desirable to increase awareness against this heinous crime. The present scientometric study has been conducted to present the growth of research in this subject domain in India. Data analysis reveals that among the total 300 articles published on this topic, the highest number of publications i.e. 42 was published in 2015 and year 2001 has published only 2 articles. Journal articles were the highest in number among different types of publication. According to chronological distribution of …

Enhancement Of Multimodal Traffic Safety In High-Quality Transit Areas, Yongping Zhang, Wen Cheng, Xudong Jia Feb 2021

Enhancement Of Multimodal Traffic Safety In High-Quality Transit Areas, Yongping Zhang, Wen Cheng, Xudong Jia

Mineta Transportation Institute

Numerous extant studies are dedicated to enhancing the safety of active transportation modes, but very few studies are devoted to safety analysis surrounding transit stations, which serve as an important modal interface for pedestrians and bicyclists. This study bridges the gap by developing joint models based on the multivariate conditionally autoregressive (MCAR) priors with a distance-oriented neighboring weight matrix. For this purpose, transit-station-centered data in Los Angeles County were used for model development. Feature selection relying on both random forest and correlation analyses was employed, which leads to different covariate inputs to each of the two jointed models, resulting in …

Structural Identification And Damage Detection In Bridges Using Wave Method And Uniform Shear Beam Models: A Feasibility Study, Mehran Rahmani, Manan Naik Feb 2021

Structural Identification And Damage Detection In Bridges Using Wave Method And Uniform Shear Beam Models: A Feasibility Study, Mehran Rahmani, Manan Naik

Mineta Transportation Institute

This report presents a wave method to be used for the structural identification and damage detection of structural components in bridges, e.g., bridge piers. This method has proven to be promising when applied to real structures and large amplitude responses in buildings (e.g., mid-rise and high-rise buildings). This study is the first application of the method to damaged bridge structures. The bridge identification was performed using wave propagation in a simple uniform shear beam model. The method identifies a wave velocity for the structure by fitting an equivalent uniform shear beam model to the impulse response functions of the recorded …

Dose-Dependent Sensorimotor Impairment In Human Ocular Tracking After Acute Low-Dose Alcohol Administration, Terence L. Tyson, Nathan H. Feick, Patrick F. Cravalho, Erin E. Flynn-Evans, Leland S. Stone Feb 2021

Dose-Dependent Sensorimotor Impairment In Human Ocular Tracking After Acute Low-Dose Alcohol Administration, Terence L. Tyson, Nathan H. Feick, Patrick F. Cravalho, Erin E. Flynn-Evans, Leland S. Stone

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity

Key points: Oculomotor behaviours are commonly used to evaluate sensorimotor disruption due to ethanol (EtOH). The current study demonstrates the dose-dependent impairment in oculomotor and ocular behaviours across a range of ultra-low BACs (<0.035%). Processing of target speed and direction, as well as pursuit eye movements, are significantly impaired at 0.015% BAC, suggesting impaired neural activity within brain regions associated with the visual processing of motion. Catch-up saccades during steady visual tracking of the moving target compensate for the reduced vigour of smooth eye movements that occurs with the ingestion of low-dose alcohol. Saccade dynamics start to become ‘sluggish’ at as low as 0.035% BAC. Pupillary light responses appear unaffected at BAC levels up to 0.065%. Abstract: Changes in oculomotor behaviours are often used as metrics of sensorimotor disruption due to ethanol (EtOH); however, previous studies have focused on deficits at blood-alcohol concentrations (BACs) above about 0.04%. We investigated the dose dependence of the impairment in oculomotor and ocular behaviours caused by EtOH administration across a range of ultra-low BACs (≤0.035%). We took repeated measures of oculomotor and ocular performance from sixteen participants, both pre- and post-EtOH administration. To assess the neurological impacts across a wide range of brain areas and pathways, our protocol measured 21 largely independent performance metrics extracted from a range of behavioural responses ranging from ocular tracking of radial step-ramp stimuli, to eccentric gaze holding, to pupillary responses evoked by light flashes. Our results show significant impairment of pursuit and visual motion processing at 0.015% BAC, reflecting degraded neural processing within extrastriate cortical pathways. However, catch-up saccades largely compensate for the tracking displacement shortfall caused by low pursuit gain, although there still is significant residual retinal slip and thus degraded dynamic acuity. Furthermore, although saccades are more frequent, their dynamics are more sluggish (i.e. show lower peak velocities) starting at BAC levels as low as 0.035%. Small effects in eccentric gaze holding and no effect in pupillary response dynamics were observed at levels below 0.07%, showing the higher sensitivity of the pursuit response to very low levels of blood alcohol, under the conditions of our study.

Spurred by availability of automatic segmentation software, in vivo MRI investigations of human hippocampal subfield volumes have proliferated in the recent years. However, a majority of these studies apply automatic segmentation to MRI scans with approximately 1 × 1 × 1 mm3 resolution, a resolution at which the internal structure of the hippocampus can rarely be visualized. Many of these studies have reported contradictory and often neurobiologically surprising results pertaining to the involvement of hippocampal subfields in normal brain function, aging, and disease. In this commentary, we first outline our concerns regarding the utility and validity of subfield segmentation on …

Background: Zero Knowledge Proof is a persuasive cryptographic protocol employed to provide data security by keeping the user's identity, using the services anonymously. Zero Knowledge Proof can be the preferred option to use in multiple circumstances. Instead of using the public key cryptographic protocols, the zero-knowledge proof usage does not expose or leak confidential data or information during the transmission. Zero Knowledge Proof protocols are comparatively lightweight; this results in making it efficient in terms of memory. Zero Knowledge Proof applications can reside in authentication, identity management, cryptocurrency transactions, and many more. Traditional authentication schemes are vulnerable to attacks …

Reflection And Emotional Well-Being In Nietzsche And Zhuang Zi, Danesh K. Singh Jan 2021

Reflection And Emotional Well-Being In Nietzsche And Zhuang Zi, Danesh K. Singh

Comparative Philosophy

Nietzsche and Zhuang Zi both believe that the supposed value of certain emotions they deem harmful should be questioned and that reflection can be utilized to change the emotions. They intend to disabuse those of their respective times of conventional morality, with the aim of achieving a state in which negative moral emotions are eliminated and a more natural way of life is embraced. Specifically, Nietzsche examines guilt, a remnant of an ascetic morality endorsed by the religious elite; Zhuang Zi, similarly, considers grief, a moral emotion tied to traditional culture and endorsed by Confucian morality. Living naturally involves the …
