The research looks into the information literacy skills of students at RIPANS Aizawl, Mizoram. To accomplish the goal, structured questionnaires were distributed to 150 respondents, of which 144 received questionnaires. There were 6 departments, and 25 questionnaires were distributed to students from each department. The results show that several students understand how to access and use information to meet their needs. They go on to say that they needed more information literacy awareness to become information literate, and that they needed a large number of books with the most recent editions in the library to have reliable information. They also …

The village library is a public service institution located in the village that has a strategic role in improving the reading culture and literacy of the village community. Seeing its important and strategic role for the village community, it is very necessary to develop a village library. This is done so that the village library can carry out its functions better, and of course, its development cannot be done alone, it needs cooperation and support from various parties. Role Of The Libraries In Providing Information And Changing Information-Seeking Behaviour Of Students And Faculties During The Pandemic: A Study, Maya Carvalho E Rodrigues, Bala Mandrekar
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Due to the closing of all educational activities in institutions, faculty and students are not able to go to their institutions and visit libraries. The study of changing information-seeking patterns of faculty and students in this pandemic is essential and fundamental to find out the changes that happened in their information-seeking behavior and the obstacles they faced in searching and retrieving the information they required during this pandemic. The COVID-19 pandemic has provided us with an opportunity to pave the way for introducing digital learning. The internet ubiquity in education has overflowed the instruction and learning process with digital tools …

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Long-term environmental management to prevent waterfowl population declines is informed by ecology, movement behavior and habitat use patterns. Extrinsic factors, such as human-induced disturbance, can cause behavioral changes which may influence movement and resource needs, driving variation that affects management efficacy. To better understand the relationship between human-based disturbance and animal movement and habitat use, and their potential effects on management, we GPS tracked 15 dabbling ducks in California over ~4-weeks before, during and after the start of a recreational hunting season in October/November 2018. We recorded locations at 2-min intervals across three separate 24-h tracking phases: Phase 1) two …

Open access plays a significant role in expanding access by enabling scholars more equitable participation in research and development activities globally. However, little is known about researchers’ awareness and adoption of open access at the University of Zambia. To address this gap, this study investigated open access scholarly communication practices at Zambia’s premier University. Using a survey research design, data were collected from a sample of 67 participants via an online questionnaire. Findings showed that though all (67) of the respondents were aware of open access and were upbeat towards this new form of scholarly communication, 79.1% had used OA …

As repopulation of San Jose State University (SJSU) continues this fall, students expressed opinions and concerns about returning to campus in person. To better understand the nature of any concerns, a survey was conducted among California higher education students, with nearly 5,000 respondents. The survey was conducted between June 2021 and August 2021. This brief summarizes the findings from 1,760 self-identified SJSU students.

Background: Multiple myeloma (MM) is an incurable cancer with complex treatment options. Trusting patient–clinician relationships are essential to promote effective shared decision-making that aligns best clinical practices with patient values and preferences. This study sought to shed light on the development of trust between MM patients and clinicians. Methods: Nineteen individual semi-structured interviews were conducted with MM patients within 2 years of initial diagnosis or relapse for this qualitative study. Interviews were recorded and transcripts were coded thematically. Results: We identified three main themes: (1) externally validated trust describes patients’ predisposition to trust or distrust clinicians based on factors outside …

This review describes the development, special features and applications of silica hydridebased stationary phases for HPLC. The unique surface of this material is in contrast to ordinary, standard silica, which is the material most frequently used in modern HPLC stationary phases. The standard silica surface contains mainly silanol (Si-OH) groups, while the silica hydride surface is instead composed of silicon-hydrogen groups, which is much more stable, less reactive and delivers different chromatographic and chemical characteristics. Other aspects of this material are described for each of the different bonded moieties available commercially. Some applications for each of these column types are …

The Influence Of Maternal Glucocorticoids On Offspring Phenotype In High-And Low-Risk Environments, Kirsty J. Macleod, Tracy Langkilde, Cameron P. Venable, David C. Ensminger, Michael J. Sheriff
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Elevated maternal glucocorticoid levels during gestation can lead to phenotypic changes in offspring via maternal effects. Although such effects have traditionally been considered maladaptive, maternally derived glucocorticoids may adaptively prepare offspring for their future environment depending upon the correlation between maternal and offspring environments. Nevertheless, relatively few studies test the effects of prenatal glucocorticoid exposure across multiple environments. We tested the potential for ecologically relevant increases in maternal glucocorticoids in the eastern fence lizard (Sceloporus undulatus) to induce adaptive phenotypic changes in offspring exposed to high or low densities of an invasive fire ant predator. Maternal treatment had limited effects …

Safeguarding Equity In Off-Site Vehicle Miles Traveled (Vmt) Mitigation In California, Serena E. Alexander, Mariela Alfonzo, Kevin Lee
Mineta Transportation Institute
Historically, the State of California assessed the environmental impacts of proposed developments based on how it was projected to affect an area’s level of service (LOS). However, as LOS focused on traffic delays, many agencies simply widened roads, which was an ineffective way to reduce greenhouse gas emissions (GHGs). With the passage of Senate Bill (SB)743 in 2013, LOS was replaced by Vehicle Miles Traveled (VMT) as a more appropriate metric by which to gauge the environmental impacts of proposed development. Additionally, SB 743 presented an opportunity for off-site VMT mitigation strategies through banking and exchanges– allowing multiple development projects …
