The Regulation Of Adult Uses, Karina Rizk
Master's Projects
This report presents the history of adult use regulation and the contemporary problems associated with defending the regulation of adult-oriented uses. Adult-oriented uses have been linked with increased crime rates, lower property values, and the degradation of a community's quality of life. These pernicious effects have prompted communities to take action through land use controls. Many jurisdictions struggle with the regulation of adult-oriented businesses, not only because of the land use and related social issues, but because the regulation touches on Issues of free speech and First Amendment rights.

Reading The Wreckage: De-Encrypting Eliot's Aesthetics Of Empire, Paul Douglass
Reading The Wreckage: De-Encrypting Eliot's Aesthetics Of Empire, Paul Douglass
Faculty Publications, English and Comparative Literature
The writer examines an aesthetics of empire evident in Eliot's The Waste Land. He contends that though this work's formal innovations appear “revolutionary,” its aesthetics fit into modernism's reactionary character and reflect the cultural politics of the British conservatism that Eliot had adopted. In decoding the poem's fragments and allusions, he illustrates Eliot's preoccupation with empire. He also shows how The Waste Land may be seen as part of a British literary tradition of “reading the wreckage” that goes back at least to Edward Volney's Ruins (1791).

Master's Projects
Ultimately this report will try to draw conclusions regarding the effects of the Fair Market Rent {FMR) level on the settlement pattern of Section 8 Households in Santa Clara County by examining that settlement pattern. Settlement pattern refers to the counts of Section 8 Households by census tract within the County. FMR refers to the maximum gross rent (rent plus utilities) for which a home of a given bedroom size can be rented by a tenant household assisted with a certificate in the Section 8 Housing Allowance Program of the U.S. Housing Act of 1937 as amended in 1974.
