Using Ecological Momentary Assessments To Understand How Drinking During Special Occasions Relates To Parenting Behaviors, Bridget Freisthler, Joselyn Sarabia, Jennifer Price Wolf
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Background: Drinking on special occasions (e.g., Super Bowl, Christmas) often results in more alcohol consumed. Further, police often report higher levels of crime, such as assaults and domestic violence, on days of major sporting events (e.g., Super Bowl, World Cup). Yet, drinking behaviors of parents during special occasions or large sporting events have not been assessed for their effects on parenting behaviors. Here, we assess the relationship between drinking during the Super Bowl and on Valentine's Day to determine whether they differ. Methods: Participants, recruited from social media, completed a 40-min baseline survey and 14 days of three daily Ecological …

The National Literacy Acceleration Program (NALAP) aims to enhance early grade primary school pupils' literacy rates, yet national evaluations reveal widespread deficiencies in reading proficiency in both the local language and English. This study examines challenges in implementing NALAP in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese district, Ghana, focusing on the teacher and resource-related issues. A mixed-methods sequential explanatory design was employed. The study covered 12 basic schools in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese district. In all, 61 respondents comprising 50 teachers and 11 circuit supervisors were involved in the study. The findings highlight teacher-related issues such as inadequate pedagogical practices, low motivation, …

Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Background: College students who identified themselves as Asians in the United States (i.e., Asian college students) are facing health inequalities and engaging in increasingly low levels of physical activity (PA). Although social support was found to be effective in increasing college students' PA and social media is an important channel for social support for Asian students, few studies have explored how to provide social support through social media interventions to promote Asian students' PA level. Thus, this study aimed to explore the effects of social support on social media on Asian college students' intention to participate in PA based on …

Promoting Library Cultures: The Roles Of Libraries In Human Resources Development In Bangladesh, Md. Aktarul Islam, Md. Habibur Rahman
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Since the library is the paramount destination for obtaining knowledge and information, it has been a matter of great regret that the culture of pursuing lifelong learning programs through libraries remains unstressed and unfamiliar in Bangladesh. People from all walks of life have not felt the necessity of going to libraries to seek information and obtain knowledge to solve their day-to-day affairs and resolve other problematic issues. The tradition of reading, learning, and researching is still in a deplorable state, and to this end, the development and expansion of “Library Culture” is too slow to fulfill the information needs of …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Literature reviews are an essential part of research, and they require a significant amount of time and effort to be able to search through the millions of academic papers both online and physically. However, with the advent of AI-powered search engines, the process of conducting literature reviews has become more efficient and effective. AI-powered search engines use machine learning algorithms to analyze large volumes of data and provide researchers with relevant and accurate information in a matter of seconds. The importance of AI-powered search engines in literature reviews cannot be overstated. They help researchers save time, improve the accuracy and …

Mineta Transportation Institute
This project developed a simple methodology for using Twitter data to explore public perceptions about misconduct on public transit in California. The methodology allows future researchers to analyze tweets to answer questions such as: How frequent are tweets related to assault, abuse, or other misconduct on public transit? What concerns arise most frequently? What are the types of behaviors discussed? We collected and analyzed data from Twitter posts in California about various types of public transit misconduct from January 2020 to March 2023 to identify the nature and frequency of reported misconduct. Our findings reveal that harassment, uncivil behavior, and …

During the start of the global COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, patient care modalities changed from in-person to telehealth to comply with physical distancing guidelines. Our study uniquely examines operations data from three distinct periods: before the transition to telehealth, early transition from in-person care to telehealth, and the eventual adoption of telehealth. We present a comparative analysis of outpatient nutrition clinic scheduling outcomes based on care delivery modality. We used descriptive statistics to report means and variance and frequencies. We used inferential statistics to make comparisons: categorical data were compared using chi-square analysis with post-hoc comparisons using a z-test …

Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The rapid advancement of information technology has an impact on easier access to information, which could encourage academic plagiarism. If plagiarism is not overcome, it can have a number of consequences, including copyright infringement and the emergence of the assumption that plagiarism is a simple way to create a scientific work. Thus, actions are required to overcome plagiarism, one of which is understanding the perception of students as academicians who frequently commit plagiarism, so strategies to overcome it may be provided. This is a quantitative study based on a survey of 106 students of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. The data …
