An Investigation Of The Inclusion Of Information And Communication Technologies In The Management Of University Libraries, Emmanuel Chidiadi Onwubiko
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The advances in information and communication technologies (ICTs) and the astronomical growth of information have brought about a tremendous transformation in the ways libraries of every sort are being managed as well as the ways services are rendered to users. This study therefore investigated the inclusion of ICTs in the management of university libraries in Nigeria with Alex Ekwueme Federal University, Ikwo, Nigeria as a case in point. The study applied a descriptive survey design with a population sample of 45 library staff selected through purposive sampling method and was guided by five research questions. The main instruments used to …

Information Literacy Skills As Predicator Of Misinformation Sharing Among Undergraduate Students In Nigeria, Opeyemi Soyemi Dr, Ifaka Queen Inazu
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Information literacy is an essential competence for the discernment of information quality online, particularly social media because of the freedom the platform provide to publish ideas without evaluation mechanism. Students also consult online information for academic and social needs which has exposed them to misinformation and resulted to further interaction with the and subsequently sharing among their network on social media. The circulation of misinformation has led concerns from governments, social media and researchers to curtail it spreads online Information literacy skills assist in use of information ethical, thus this study ascertains the influence of information Literacy (IL) competency of …

The Role Of Academic Libraries In Promoting Clientele Centered Services, Flora Ifeoma Okogwu
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
Academic libraries play a key role in the promotion of user centered services through the provision of information resources and services for the information needs of the library clienteles. With the emergence of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), the traditional library services have no place in satisfying the curiosity of the library users. Library users are gradually keeping away from the use of the library and less value are attached to the library. This paper looked at the traditional and hybrid services that are easy to access and more convenient for the library users as a way of promoting clientele …

Diel Gene Expression Improves Software Prediction Of Cyanobacterial Operons, Philip Heller
Diel Gene Expression Improves Software Prediction Of Cyanobacterial Operons, Philip Heller
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Cyanobacteria are important participants in global biogeochemical process, but their metabolic processes and genomic functions are incompletely understood. In particular, operon structure, which can provide valuable metabolic and genomic insight, is difficult to determine experimentally, and algorithmic operon predictions probably underestimate actual operon extent. A software method is presented for enhancing current operon predictions by incorporating information from whole-genome time-series expression studies, using a Machine Learning classifier. Results are presented for the marine cyanobacterium Crocosphaera watsonii. A total of 15 operon enhancements are proposed. The source code is publicly available.

Recover From Failure: Examining The Impact Of Service Recovery Stages On Relationship Marketing Strategies, Jie Gao, Lixia Yao, Xiao Xiao, Peizhe Li
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Purpose: Given the digital transformation of service businesses by providing online food services and the influence of online reviews on consumers’ purchasing decisions, this study examines how service recovery attributes in different stages influence relationship marketing strategies, i.e., relationship quality and customer loyalty after service failure. This study is built upon a revised service recovery cycle model by accounting for three stages and their corresponding attributes; whereon a conceptual stage model of service recovery is proposed. This conceptual stage model incorporates stages of service recovery, their respective attributes, and how they influence relationship marketing strategies. Design/methodology/approach: An online marketing company …

Providing Information Resources To Remote Clients During The Covid-19 Pandemic: The Perspective Of The Distance Education Academic Libraries, Tinyiko Vivian Dube
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The study aimed to determine the information resources provided to remote clients by the distance education academic libraries in Gauteng Province of South Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic. The positivism research paradigm anchored this paper and used the quantitative research approach. Microsoft Form was used to design the questionnaire to collect data from the academic library staff. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used for data analysis. Cluster sampling was adopted as the actual number of the target population was not known. The findings revealed that the COVID-19 pandemic brought changes in the provision of information resources to …

The Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE) will produce world-leading neutrino oscillation measurements over the lifetime of the experiment. In this work, we explore DUNE's sensitivity to observe charge-parity violation (CPV) in the neutrino sector, and to resolve the mass ordering, for exposures of up to 100 kiloton-megawatt-calendar years (kt-MW-CY), where calendar years include an assumption of 57% accelerator uptime based on past accelerator performance at Fermilab. The analysis includes detailed uncertainties on the flux prediction, the neutrino interaction model, and detector effects. We demonstrate that DUNE will be able to unambiguously resolve the neutrino mass ordering at a 4σ (5σ) …
Fostering Reflective Teaching: Using The Student Participation Observation Tool (Spot) To Promote Active Instructional Approaches In Stem, Cara H. Theisen, Cassandra A. Paul, Katrina Roseler
Fostering Reflective Teaching: Using The Student Participation Observation Tool (Spot) To Promote Active Instructional Approaches In Stem, Cara H. Theisen, Cassandra A. Paul, Katrina Roseler
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
The Student Participation Observation Tool (SPOT) is a web-based classroom observation protocol developed for higher education STEM courses and based on research on evidence-based practices. The low-inference and objective nature of the SPOT and visual outputs make it an optimal tool for teaching professional development. The SPOT allows novice users to use data from their own classes to reflect on, and make data-driven changes to, their teaching practices. In particular, the SPOT was designed to present faculty with objective data related to their use of active instructional approaches, be easy for practitioners to use, and provide data outputs that are …
