Antitumor Activity Of Carboxymethyl Pachymaran With Different Molecular Weights Based On Immunomodulatory And Gut Microbiota, Yalin Zhao, Xi Feng, Lijia Zhang, Wen Huang, Ying Liu
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Carboxymethyl pachymaran (CMP) was treated via high-temperature and cellulase hydrolysis to obtain HTCMP, HTEC-24, and HTEC-48. The chemical structure and in vivo antitumor activities of the four types of CMPs were investigated. Compared with CMP (787.9 kDa), the molecular weights of HTCMP, HTEC-24, and HTEC-48 were decreased to 429.8, 129.9, and 68.6 kDa, respectively. The viscosities and particle sizes of the CMPs could also decrease with the decline in the molecular weights. All the CMPs showed antitumor abilities, but HTEC-24 exhibited the best activity. In the animal study, when curing the spleen and thymus, CMPs displayed immunomodulatory effects by increasing …

There are over 590,000 bridges dispersed across the roadway network that stretches across the United States alone. Each bridge with a length of 20 feet or greater must be inspected at least once every 24 months, according to the Federal Highway Act (FHWA) of 1968. This research developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based framework for bridge and road inspection using drones with multiple sensors collecting capabilities. It is not sufficient to conduct inspections of bridges and roads using cameras alone, so the research team utilized an infrared (IR) camera along with a high-resolution optical camera. In many instances, the IR camera …

Thrombin is a key enzyme involved in the development and progression of many cardiovascular diseases. Direct thrombin inhibitors (DTIs), with their minimum off-target effects and immediacy of action, have greatly improved the treatment of these diseases. However, the risk of bleeding, pharmacokinetic issues, and thrombotic complications remain major concerns. In an effort to increase the effectiveness of the DTI discovery pipeline, we developed a two-stage machine learning pipeline to identify and rank peptide sequences based on their effective thrombin inhibitory potential. The positive dataset for our model consisted of thrombin inhibitor peptides and their binding affinities (KI) curated from published …

To effectively manage species and habitats at multiple scales, population and land managers require rapid information on wildlife use of managed areas and responses to landscape conditions and management actions. GPS tracking studies of wildlife are particularly informative to species ecology, habitat use, and conservation. Combining GPS data with administrative data and a diverse suite of remotely sensed, geo-referenced environmental (e.g., climatic) data, would more comprehensively inform how animals interact with and utilize habitats and ecosystems and our goal was to create a conceptual model for a system that would accomplish this – the ‘Automated Interactive Monitoring System (AIMS) for …

Is A Psychotic Anthropology Possible? Or How To Have Inclusive Anthropologies Of Subjectivity And Personhood, John Marlovits, Matthew J. Wolf-Meyer
Is A Psychotic Anthropology Possible? Or How To Have Inclusive Anthropologies Of Subjectivity And Personhood, John Marlovits, Matthew J. Wolf-Meyer
Faculty Research, Scholarly, and Creative Activity
Dominant anthropological theories of mind, cognition, and consciousness reify particular ways of being in the world as "normal," which marginalizes the experiences of people who do not meet normative expectations of personhood or exhibit nonnormative subjectivities. By focusing on atypical forms of communication and self-representation in the ethnographic record, which draws from work in the anthropology of disability and psychological anthropology, we argue for the need to attend to interactions and behavior as the necessary basis for anthropological studies of personhood and subjectivity. These foci, which build on a foundation provided by affect theory and disability studies, stand to open …

A Bibliometric Study On Information Seeking Behavior Research In Library And Information Science Using Biblioshiny And Vosviewer, Moniruzzaman -, Md. Monirul Islam
Library Philosophy and Practice (e-journal)
The primary aim of this attempt is to provide a thorough overview of Information Seeking Behavior (ISB) research within Library and Information Science (ISB) utilizing sophisticated bibliometric analysis tools. We searched the bibliographical data from Scopus and examined with the help of Biblioshiny and VOSviewer to demonstrate the visualization. A total of 1957 documents were included in the dataset. The growth rate is calculated at 7.88%. The total quantity of references quoted across all the documents in the dataset amounts to 57870. The study exposed that the highest number of articles (n=140) were produced in the year 2012 followed by …

Abstract
Purpose- Signs and symbols play important roles in our lives because they help us to convey messages even without written words. With the invention of the internet and the evolution of web technologies, the universe became a global village because the internet facilitated a better and faster avenue for human communication. In libraries and allied information science terrains, the internet fostered the use of Websites, to portray the intellectual contents that are domiciled in them. On the library websites, users can ascertain the timings, collections, policies etc. of a particular library because the icons that are visible on a …

A Web-Based Information repository is a technology used to collect and organize multimedia information such as images, text, audio, video, software, and scientific data. It improves knowledge management and provides high-speed access to the database. The researcher made an initiative to analyze the trends in information services accessed from the university library website and to analyze the satisfaction of the respondents with Web-Based Information Repositories available in the sample unit. The target population of this study is research scholars in various departments of Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. The questionnaire method has been used for the collection of data required. A …

The accelerating pace of global biodiversity loss is exacerbated by habitat fragmentation and subsequent inbreeding in small populations. To address this problem, conservation practitioners often turn to assisted breeding programmes with the aim of enhancing genetic diversity in declining populations. Although genomic information is infrequently included in these efforts, it has the potential to significantly enhance the success of such programmes. In this study, we showcase the value of genomic approaches for increasing genetic diversity in assisted breeding efforts, specifically focusing on a highly inbred population of Western burrowing owls. To maximize genetic diversity in the resulting offspring, we begin …

Facebook has been adopted by public health organisations for health promotion, psychoeducation and behaviour change campaigns. Studies have underscored the potential advantages of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) in decelerating the transmission of COVID-19 and mitigating its severe health consequences. However, these studies did not content analyse these NPI messages especially on Facebook. This study sought to investigate the phenomenon of NPI COVID-19 videos on Facebook that were viewed by Nigerians and Beninese. This study used quantitative content analysis as the research design and analysed 56 Nigerian videos and 36 Beninese videos totalling 92 on Facebook with an inter-rater reliability of 96%. …

Recently, consumers have gained an interest in natural and minimally processed foods, inciting the food industry to consider using of natural products as preservatives. Strawberries are a widely consumed fruit but are also highly perishable. Therefore, in this study, the physicochemical properties of strawberries (Fragaria×ananassa) were evaluated after a 12-h treatment with lemon essential oil (Citrus×limon) or cinnamon essential oil (Cinnamomum cassia) vapor during storage at 22°C for 4 days in an accelerated shelf-life study and 4°C for 18 days in a validation study. Weight loss was blunted in fruit treated with oil vapor …
