A Study Of The Effects On Sigma D And Resolved Lines As A Function Of Spatial Multi-Superposition Of Images, Jerome Katz, Roger Umbdenstock Jan 1965

A Study Of The Effects On Sigma D And Resolved Lines As A Function Of Spatial Multi-Superposition Of Images, Jerome Katz, Roger Umbdenstock

Theses

In photography the fidelity of the image is often degraded due to the random graininess associated with photographic emulsions. A study was performed to obtain objective and subjective data on the effects of granularity and graininess as a function of the number of spatially superpositioned images. A target was designed and built.* Individual negatives were made utilizing copy equipment with a vacuum back to ensure precise registration during exposure. These individual negatives were then imaged onto 16mm film utilizing standard motion picture equipment and a vacuum platen which was designed and built to ensure precise registration of individual negatives during …

Density Variation And Spread Of The Printed Halftone Dot In Offset Lithography, Walter L. Covington, William L. Heaps Jan 1965

Density Variation And Spread Of The Printed Halftone Dot In Offset Lithography, Walter L. Covington, William L. Heaps

Theses

No detectable functional relationship was found between dot area and dot density within a solid ink density and paper combination over a 65 to 300 line screen range.

Dot spread, measured as per cent difference from the per cent dot value of the half tone negative, was found to be more significant in the midtones and the 300 line screen was observed to increase spread appreciably as well as variability with tints.

Investigation Of Effects Of Ph, Ionic Strength, And Drying Temp. On Dimensional Stability Of Film, Harry N. Parsonage, George A. Pittman May 1964

Investigation Of Effects Of Ph, Ionic Strength, And Drying Temp. On Dimensional Stability Of Film, Harry N. Parsonage, George A. Pittman

Theses

An investigation into the effect effects of chemical changes made in a processing system and drying temperature [with respect] to dimensional displacements of a final image was carried out using Eastman Kodak's # 8430 aerial duplicating film. Image displacements over both long and short distances were measured.

Over approximately 162 mm., drying at a temperature equal to that of processing, 70°F, resulted in no significant special displacement of the final image, while drying at higher temperatures prodded correspondingly larger displacements. A pH system between bathe similar to that found in a conventional process resulted in dimensional displacements, over the short …
