An Investigation Of A Mathematical Model To Characterize The Nonlinear Nature Of A Lithographic Film System, David S. Holbrook Feb 1981

An Investigation Of A Mathematical Model To Characterize The Nonlinear Nature Of A Lithographic Film System, David S. Holbrook

Theses

An attempt was made to obtain a set of spatial transfer functions which would allow the prediction of output effective exposure distributions for a nonlinear lithographic film system. Slit exposures were used as one-dimensional system inputs. It was proposed that the use of slits would allow the calculation of a general system transfer function to be simplified. The mathematical model chosen to describe this nonlinear transfer was shown to be invalid due to the nonlinear relationship of small area system gain (small area output effective exposure divided by the input exposure) as a function on input exposure. The model,, based …

Stability Of Time-Delay Systems, T. Lee, Sohail Dianat Jan 1981

Stability Of Time-Delay Systems, T. Lee, Sohail Dianat

Articles

This paper gives necessary and sufficient conditions for the stability of time-delay systems of the formdot{x}(t)=A_{1}x(t)+A_{2}x(t-h). These new conditions are derived by Lyapunov's direct method through systematic construction of the corresponding "energy" function. This function is known to exist, if a solutionP_{1}(0)of the algebraic nonlinear matrix equationA_{2} =e^{[A_{1}+P_{1}(0)]h}P_{1}(0)can be determined (Refer to PDF file for exact formulas).

Development And Manufacture Of Photovoltaic Systems In Developing Countries, G. C. Jain Jan 1981

Development And Manufacture Of Photovoltaic Systems In Developing Countries, G. C. Jain

Books

The idea of writing this monograph on Design and Manufacture of Photovoltaic systems in developing countries originated during a visit of Dr. Walter Shearer of U.N. University Tokyo to New Delhi in Fall 1980.

A New Correlation For Heat Transfer During Flow Boiling, Bhabesh K. Thakur Jan 1981

A New Correlation For Heat Transfer During Flow Boiling, Bhabesh K. Thakur

Theses

This thesis is concerned with an investigation carried out to establish a new correlation for the prediction of the heat transfer coefficient during flow boiling through tubes, vertical and horizontal flows, for water and organic fluids (including refrigerants). An additive mechanism of convective and boiling heat transfer has been formulated to give the net heat transfer during flow boiling. The correlation employs three dimensionless parameters: the Convection number, the Boiling number and the Froude number. The correlation has been tested with the data (over 500) from twelve experimental cases of six investigators and the mean deviation from the measured values …

The Use Of The Spline Function In Computer-Aided Type Design, Kathleen Barry Albertini Jan 1981

The Use Of The Spline Function In Computer-Aided Type Design, Kathleen Barry Albertini

Theses

The traditional type designer works with pen, in and paper. The characters that he designs go through many changes before the whole font is finalized and set in the printing medium. Further alterations to the font may occur after he prints and evaluates a sample piece of text. Computer-aided type design presents the type designer with a new design tool. Computers have been used in the printing industry for typesetting; the automation of type design is a logical next step. Freeing the designer from the repetitive tasks of the design cycle is one obvious advantage cf using computers. But computer-aided …

Analysis On The Use Of Viewing Filters To Determine Necessary Color Change In The Graphic Arts Industry, John W. Mcfarlan Jan 1981

Analysis On The Use Of Viewing Filters To Determine Necessary Color Change In The Graphic Arts Industry, John W. Mcfarlan

Theses

This thesis analyzes the effectiveness of the Kodak Color Print View ing Filters. The first half discusses the problems people in the graphic arts encounter when working with color reproductions and points out the in adequacies of the proofing system currently in use. The second half focuses on the application of the viewing filters and their ability to improve the proofing system. This involves an experiment where twenty print buyers and twenty printers are tested on three test images. Half of the partici pants use the viewing filters, the other half do not. The results of the experiment indicate that …

Tubular Solar Collector Analysis And Comparison With Flat Plate Collectors In Sdhw Applications, Kevin A. Cole Jan 1981

Tubular Solar Collector Analysis And Comparison With Flat Plate Collectors In Sdhw Applications, Kevin A. Cole

Theses

A residential solar domestic hot water system utilizing tubular solar collectors is analyzed for climatic conditions typical of various regions of the Northeast. Experimentally determined system parameters are used in analytical simulations to compare the performance of systems using two different flat plate collectors to the system using the tubular type. A cost/benefit analysis is performed to determine the economic feasibility of the various systems.

Three Dimensional Resonant Vibrations And Stresses In Turbine Blade Groups, Patrick J. Kline Jan 1981

Three Dimensional Resonant Vibrations And Stresses In Turbine Blade Groups, Patrick J. Kline

Theses

This thesis describes an efficient procedure for calculating three dimensional resonant vibrations and stresses in intermediate and high pressure turbine blade groups. This procedure is capable of calculating all the natural frequencies, mode shapes, and bending stresses in the tangential, axial, and coupled modes of vibration. Simple beam theory is applied to develop a dynamic stiffness matrix. The solutions to this matrix give the natural frequencies and mode shapes for the blade group. Prohl's energy method is used to determine the amplitude of the forced vibrations and the dynamic stresses. A Goodman diagram fatigue criterion is applied to evaluate the …
