The Investigation Of Metameric Grays For The Testing Of Spectral Changes In The D5000 Standard Illuminant, Chun-Fai Alexander Wat Mar 1978

The Investigation Of Metameric Grays For The Testing Of Spectral Changes In The D5000 Standard Illuminant, Chun-Fai Alexander Wat

Theses

Very often, different results are obtained when colored originals and/or reproductions under different so-called standard light sources are evaluated. A possible explanation for the different results is that not all admissible standard sources have the same spectral power distribution, either due to differences in manufacturing or due to aging. A possible solution to the problem would be to determine how the spectral power distribution of a given illuminant differs from the standard (D5000) distribution by visually comparing suitable metameric grays with a stable non-selective gray under the illuminant in question. This comparison would serve as a quick and inexpensive way …

An Investigation Into The Interactions Of Certain Visual Attributes Of A Four-Color Reproduction Produced On A Sheet-Fed Offset Lithographic Printing Press, Daniel Lake

Theses

The development of a closed loop press control system has been the goal of many press manufacturers in recent years. These closed loop systems are designed to collect data from sample press sheets by measuring certain process variables which are considered to be indicators of press control. The theory is that by controlling the variation of these indicator variables, it is possible to control the color variation of the halftone overprints of the reproduction. The problem in the design of these automatic control systems, however, concerns which process variables should be considered indicators of press control. This study was undertaken …

Assessment Of Regional Myocardial Blood Flow And Regional Fractional Oxygen Extraction In Dogs, Using 15o-Water And 15o-Hemoglobin, J. Anthony Parker, George Beller, Bernard Hoop Jan 1978

Assessment Of Regional Myocardial Blood Flow And Regional Fractional Oxygen Extraction In Dogs, Using 15o-Water And 15o-Hemoglobin, J. Anthony Parker, George Beller, Bernard Hoop

Articles

A new approach to the assessment of regional myocardial blood flow and fractional oxygen extraction has been developed using 15O-water (H2- 15O) and 15O-hemoglobin (15O-Hb). Bolus doses (1 mCi) of H2-15O and 15O- Hb were injected 10 minutes apart into the left main coronary artery of 12 normal dogs. Sequential images of regional myocardial tracer clearance were obtained over 5 minutes with a positron camera. Myocardial blood flow calculated from the monoexponential washout of H2- 15O after background correction was 78 +/- 6 (SE) ml/100 g per min. Functional images of regional blood flow in which the image of peak …

Streak, Strip And Scanning Photographic Systems - An Overview Of Historical And Current Technologies, Andrew Davidhazy

Articles

A manuscript that was started in 1978 was found in a pile of papers and is presented here "as is" after it was transformed into text using Optical Character Recognition software. This was to be, and still someday may be (maybe upon the author's retirement!), an overview of the many facets and applications of streak and strip cameras.

The Determination Of Line Spread Functions For Unconventional Photographic Emulsions, Peter Jann Jan 1978

The Determination Of Line Spread Functions For Unconventional Photographic Emulsions, Peter Jann

Theses

System mean normalized line spread functions with 90% confidence limits were determined for four emulsions. These emulsions or film materials were Kodak Panatomic-X, H & W Control type #77 , 3M #7842 dry silver , and Xidex DMCF diazo. The method of edge gradient analysis was employed with replication of n = 3. Microdensitometer degradation was not eliminated from these system mean normalized line spread functions. Microdensitometer mean MTFs with 90% confidence limits were determined for different types and/or modes of instrument operation with replication of n = 2. Due to a lack of precision in the determination of the …

Effect Of Stabilizers On Sulfur Sensitization, Anthony Gingello, Gladys Macintyre Jan 1978

Effect Of Stabilizers On Sulfur Sensitization, Anthony Gingello, Gladys Macintyre

Theses

It has been repeatedly suggested that chemical sensitization by sulfur compounds depends not only on the formation of silver sulfide, but on its rearrangement on the grain surface to form sensitivity centers. The most direct evidence for this is that there is no sensitization on addition of soluble sulfide to the emulsion which forms silver sulfide, but, on heating the emulsion with the sulfide for a longer time and a higher temperature than those used for thiosulfate sensitization, equivalent sensitization can be obtained. Stabilizers such as 6-methyl-4-hydroxy-l,3,3a,7-tetraazaindene (TAI) , which stop photographic sensitization, do not stop the chemical reaction of …

Production Of A Micro-Scale Linear Density Wedge, Lawrence Mattison, Roger Triplett Jan 1978

Production Of A Micro-Scale Linear Density Wedge, Lawrence Mattison, Roger Triplett

Theses

In the evaluation of conventional photographic imaging systems the non-linearity of the macroscopic curve can easily be dealt with by examining the "effective exposure" rather than expressing the density or transmittance. Dealing with the nonlinearities on a microscopic level, however, is very difficult since they result from development adjacency effects. A tool was made using a "V-shaped" groove design by G.W. Schumann which consists of a series of microscopic linear density wedges. The density wedges were made by filling V-cut grooves in a high quality acrylic plastic with a carbon-epoxy dispersion. The density wedges have been produced at the frequencies …

The Use Of Fourier Analyzed Square Waves In The Determination Of The Modulation Transfer Function Of Photographic Materials, David Moffett, John Stanton Jan 1978

The Use Of Fourier Analyzed Square Waves In The Determination Of The Modulation Transfer Function Of Photographic Materials, David Moffett, John Stanton

Theses

Fourier analysis and a computer were used to generate the Fourier series and coefficients for the transmission distribution of a square wave target and the effective exposure produced on Kodak Plus-X film. This was performed in an effort to find a workable alternative to the proposed American National Standards Institute (ANSI) method for the determination of the photographic modulation transfer function. The results showed that the square wave method generated a curve with the same general trend as the conventional ANSI method. The Fourier analyzed square wave method had a greater degree of variability than did the standard method. The …
