Making Waves In Color - A Basic Color Schlieren System, Andrew Davidhazy
Articles
This article first appeared as "Making Waves in Color" An article [that originally appeared in 1982 in Photomethods magazine's Images and ideas publication] describing how I set up a single mirror, double pass, color schlieren system.
A Survey Of Twelve Factors Influencing Covering Power, Jeffrey Wagner
A Survey Of Twelve Factors Influencing Covering Power, Jeffrey Wagner
Theses
A statistical screening design was used to test 12 emulsion and processing variables said to influence covering power in silver halide emulsions. Emulsion grain size was found to be the only statistically significant factor at an alpha risk of .10.

The Implementation Of A Network Oriented Database Management System Designed To Run Under The Unix Operating System, Mary Dvonch
The Implementation Of A Network Oriented Database Management System Designed To Run Under The Unix Operating System, Mary Dvonch
Theses
We have designed a network approach, low level access system. Our conceptual model is specifically designed to run under the UNIX operating system. Our model has been tooled in the UNIX tradition. We have also supplied a manipulation language for use on the database. Our system does its own input and output buffering.
Mathematical Modeling Of Black-And-White Chromogenic Image Stability, Charles Datema
Mathematical Modeling Of Black-And-White Chromogenic Image Stability, Charles Datema
Theses
Agfapan Vario-XL film was faded at various levels of temperature, humidity, light, and fade time to determine the mathematical relationships of these variables and to examine whether interaction occurs between each factor. Light stability of the film was measured, and the Arrhenius relationship was used to predict dark stability at ambient storage conditions. It was found that the amount of fade, as measured as either a change in transmittance or density, could be mathematically modeled with a high degree of correlation. Each independent variable (temperature, humidity, and time) was interactive with the other two variables. Under the specific conditions tested, …

Image Quality As A Function Of Unsharp Masking Band Center, Chia-Chin Liu
Image Quality As A Function Of Unsharp Masking Band Center, Chia-Chin Liu
Theses
Unsharp masking is an image enhancement technique used to obtain a Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) greater than unity within a given spatial frequency band. In unsharp masking, the mask forms a slightly blurred version of the original image. The result is more severe in the high frequency region than at low frequencies. The final image is made by combining the original positive and the blurred negative images. The subjective quality of images resulting from unsharp masking is a function of the frequency response of the human eye. This study evaluates the unsharp masking technique by implementing the Subjective Quality Factor …

Advantages And Practical Limitations Of Mathematical Continuity In Cam Profile Design, Edward Gunzelmann
Advantages And Practical Limitations Of Mathematical Continuity In Cam Profile Design, Edward Gunzelmann
Theses
The basics of cam profile design are discussed with emphasis on mathematical profile types i.e., polynomial versus trigonometric. Comparisons are made and recommendations on the applicability of the various profiles with respect to their dynamic performance are extracted from existing texts. A literature search was done into specific cam system dynamic performance. The categories researched were: a) shock spectrum analysis with return profiles as a forcing function, b) cam shaft wind up, c) follower stiffness effects, d) crossover shock and "jump" phenomena, e) drive errors to the cam, f) manufacturing tolerance effects, g) curve types, h) return spring surge, and …

Correlation Of Development Acceleration By Decyltrimethylammonium Bromide With The Ionization States Of Hydroquinone And Of Chlorohydroquinone, Robert W. Eskes
Correlation Of Development Acceleration By Decyltrimethylammonium Bromide With The Ionization States Of Hydroquinone And Of Chlorohydroquinone, Robert W. Eskes
Theses
The hypothesis is that the effect of acceleration by a quaternary salt is greater on the development rate of the divalent ion than on the rate of development of the monovalent ion of hydroquinone. The gross rate of development of a hydroquinone-sulfite developer was determined with and without a quaternary salt for a range of pH values. Comparison of the acceleration of catechol which is active as a monovalent ion with the acceleration of hydroquinone which is active mainly as a divalent ion was hoped to allow the separation of the hydroquinone gross rate into the contributions by the monovalent …
An Investigation Into The Effects Of Dry Etching Techniques On Changing Halftone Dot-Sizes, Anthony P. Stanton
An Investigation Into The Effects Of Dry Etching Techniques On Changing Halftone Dot-Sizes, Anthony P. Stanton
Theses
The purpose of this research was to investigate the effects of dry etching techniques on changing halftone dotsizes. Dry etching, or photographic color correction, has emerged in recent years as an alternative to traditional dot etching for making local corrections to color separation halftones. This study examines six factors related to dry etching. First, three types of original halftone dots were considered: laser formed (hard) dots from a Hell DC-300B scanner, laser formed (semi-hard) dots from a P.D.I, scanner, and contact screen (soft) dots from a Crosfield 510 Magnascan scanner. Second, the original dot-sizes being treated were fixed as close …
