Indot Maintenance - Next Level, Michael E. Brinkerhoff
Indot Maintenance - Next Level, Michael E. Brinkerhoff
Purdue Road School
INDOT, similar to many municipalities, has developed structured methods to not only inspect assets, but to identify deficiencies in an extremely efficient manner. This has led to multiple metrics for tracking customer service resolutions, bridge and large culvert hit rates, and other similar type performance standards. While technology for data collection and analysis are heavily weighed to meet agency goals, the need for out of the box solutions has grown immensely. Going beyond the metrics, many field personnel are tasked with keeping INDOT assets functioning for the safety and mobility of the public. This has pushed INDOT to the NEXT …

Statewide Dissemination Of An Evidenced-Based Email Walking Program Delivered Through Cooperative Extension, Elizabeth Richards, Stephanie Woodcox, Anna Forster
School of Nursing Faculty Publications
Using the RE-AIM framework, this study evaluates the statewide dissemination of an evidenced-based, email-delivered physical activity intervention implemented through Cooperative Extension. The Get WalkIN' program is comprised of 16 email messages sent over 12 weeks. Email messages target social cognitive theory constructs of self-efficacy, goal-setting, self-monitoring, and social support. Program reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation, and maintenance were assessed with quantitative measures in a pre-post design. Findings indicate that within the Extension system, program adoption was high and program maintenance was moderate. Program effectiveness was demonstrated with an increase of 77.1 ± 49.9 min in weekly walking post-program. This increase in …

Short-Run Net Returns To A Cereal Rye Cover Crop Mix In A Midwest Corn–Soybean Rotation, Nathan Thompson, Shalamar Armstrong, Richard T. Roth, Michael D. Ruffatti, Carson Reeling
Department of Agricultural Economics Faculty Publications
Unsubstantiated economic returns are a major contributor to producers’ reluctance to adopt cover crops. The objective of this study is to evaluate the direct short-run net returns to the producer of implementing a predominantly cereal rye (Secale cereal L.) cover crop mix into a Midwest corn (Zea mays L.)–soybean [Glycine max (L.) Merr.] rotation. Experimental agronomic data from field experiments in Lexington, IL, are used to calibrate economic simulations of the costs and benefits of cover crop adoption. Results indicate that net returns to cover crops, including current cost-share payments, were routinely negative. Returns to the soybean …
