Turbomachine Stability And Forced Response Prediction, Leland Bert Clark
Turbomachine Stability And Forced Response Prediction, Leland Bert Clark
Open Access Theses
A mathematical model is developed and utilized to analyze turbomachine cascade flutter and forced response. The flutter boundary, defined as the largest value of reduced frequency at which flutter occurs for a given cascade, was evaluated for single degree of freedom torsional oscillation as well as coupled bending and torsional oscillations. The maximum amplitude of forced response in bending and torsion was also considered. The unsteady aerodynamic lift and moment coefficients were determined from unsteady aerodynamic flow models for subsonic flow, supersonic flow with a subsonic axial component and supersonic axial flow. The effect of changing the Mach number, stagger …

Guide To Revenue Calculations: Local Option Highway User Tax 1992, Jon D. Fricker
Indiana Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP) Publications
This guide is provided to explain the output generated by the computer programs, and to suggest ways in which the results can be adapted to specific LOHUT proposals before a County Council. HERPICC neither endorses nor opposes passage of a LOHUT. The revenue projections it provides are intended to be an aid to well-informed decision-making on the part of a county’s citizens and its County Council.

Energy Storage For Power Systems With Rapidly Changing Loads, Patrick G. Lyons
Energy Storage For Power Systems With Rapidly Changing Loads, Patrick G. Lyons
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
In areas with rapidly changing loads of large magnitude, utility companies often experience large deviations in frequency and area control error. Inadvertent tie-line power flow also occurs. The purpose of this research is to examine the effects a large scale energy storage device has on the system response to a rapidly changing load. Two control areas connected by a tie-line are modelled and simulations are performed to determine the response to a step change in load and also to a five-stand rolling mill load. For each type of load, three cases are studied: no energy storage in the system, a …
An Embedding Selection Algorithm For Chaotic Dynamical Systems, W. Hsu, L. S. Hsu, M. F. Tenorio
An Embedding Selection Algorithm For Chaotic Dynamical Systems, W. Hsu, L. S. Hsu, M. F. Tenorio
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
The selection of an embedding scheme is an important step in the modeling and prediction of chaotic dynamical systems. Theoretical work in embedding selection abounds in the literature. However in neural network research, mostly compute intensive methods for embedding selection exist. In this paper, we propose a novel embedding selection scheme based on cluster analysis. A neural network implementing this method is described and demonstrated on the Mackey- Glass chaotic time series. The result of the method agrees with the embedding schemes used by researchers in neural networks. In addition, other new embedding schemes have been Found and they also …

A Digital Implementation Of A Three-Layered Ann Module, Ottilia Mccoy, Okan K. Ersoy
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
An Artificial Neural Network (ANN) Module has been designed having capabilities of onboard supervised backpropagation learning. Several modules are comected through an error detection scheme. The Artificial Neural Network Module is a three-layered network comprising twenty-four digital nodes that can be fully connected. The module allows full user configurable options of connections between nodes in adjacent layers, ,activation or deactivation of any node, learning high precision floating point user specified input initial weights, and user choice of linear or nonlinear activation hnction for the input, hidden, and output nodes. In addition to the Artificial Neural Network Module implementation, a circuit …
The Impact Of Adjustable Speed Drive Heat Pumps On Distribution Transformers, Kevin G. Karagory
The Impact Of Adjustable Speed Drive Heat Pumps On Distribution Transformers, Kevin G. Karagory
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
Electric utilities, by encouraging the use of high efficiency heat pumps, have increased the amount of power electronics in the residential sector. This report examines the impact that an adjustable speed drive heat pump has on the electric distribution transformer. Using a PSpice model of the components and ANSIDEEE Recommended Standard C57.1 10-1986, the transformer capability to supply a nonsinusoidal load current to the residence is established.

Project Modeling For Discrete Event Simulation By Neural Networks And Fuzzy Associative Memories, O. E. Velipasaoglu, O. K. Ersoy, T. Nienhaus
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
The simulation method is used to obtain approximate solutions to operations planning problems. Its power comes from the ability to model complex systems effectively. This property makes simulation preferable in practice over programming methods which provide exact solutions but are limited in the range of problems they can be applied. Flexibility of simulation modeling is desirable especially in resource constrained operations planning problems. When internal decision mechanisms like heuristic methods are added to the scope of simulation, performance can be enhanced significantly. As a result of application of neural networks and fuzzy associative memories to operations planning through the context …

Losses In Electric Power Systems, E. Benedict, T. Collins, D. Gotham, S. Hoffman, D. Karipides, S. Pekarek, R. Ramabhadran
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
This report concerns losses in power systems. The report was assembled by seven authors in EE 532 class at Purdue University in December, 1992. The work was part of a class project on losses . All aspects of losses are discussed from the transmission system through utilization stages. High efficiency motors and lighting are also considered . The students participating in this project also videotaped presentations on power system losses .
Investigation Of Sidewall Defects In Selective Epitaxial Growth (Seg) Of Silic0n:Applications To Novel 3-Dimensional Devices, Rashid Bashir
Investigation Of Sidewall Defects In Selective Epitaxial Growth (Seg) Of Silic0n:Applications To Novel 3-Dimensional Devices, Rashid Bashir
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
The objective of this work is to study the defects of the SEG/insulator sidewall interface as applied to the novel 3-dimensional structures. The defects were characterized through electrical measurements of a p+/n diode and transmission electron microscopy. Different mechanisms have been postulated to be responsible for these defects. These include thermal stress induced defects, defect nucleation close to the sidewall, and defects at the interface due to weak bonding. The simple structure of the diocie allowed the design of many experiments in order to study the dependence of the sidewall defects on process conditions and other parameters and to identify …
Feature Subset Select Ion And Financial Predict Ion Tasks, W. Hsu, L. S. Hsu, M. F. Tenorio
Feature Subset Select Ion And Financial Predict Ion Tasks, W. Hsu, L. S. Hsu, M. F. Tenorio
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
One major problem in applying neural networks to financial applications is the large number of features involved. The feature set is large because we simply do not know which of the given features may be useful to the system and include rather than risk throwing away a potentially useful one. In practice, training with the full set of features usually introduces unnecessary complexity and often degraded prediction performance. An important contribution of this paper is to focus the attention of neural network researchers on the need for a systematic feature preprocessing methodology for the purpose of improving predictability. The approach …
