Us 36 Truss Bridge Rehabilitation (Schedule-Critical Deadline Met With Teamwork And Innovation), Elizabeth Kokosinski, David Day
Us 36 Truss Bridge Rehabilitation (Schedule-Critical Deadline Met With Teamwork And Innovation), Elizabeth Kokosinski, David Day
Purdue Road School
The US 36 over the Wabash River truss bridge, which spans more than 1,200 feet, underwent a deck replacement in 2017. The existing historical structure had a deteriorated bridge deck and a substandard load rating. During construction, coordination between all parties allowed for load rating improvement by taking advantage of composite action. This time-saving measure allowed for meeting a schedule-critical completion date in order to reopen for the Parke County Covered Bridge Festival. Join us for a discussion.

Slow Down! Reducing Downtown Bloomington's Progression Speed, Patrick O'Connor, Neil Kopper
Purdue Road School
A stated goal of the Citywide Retiming Project was to reduce the progression speed along the College Avenue and Walnut Street one-way pair through downtown Bloomington while improving signal coordination, increasing greenband, and providing clearance interval compliance. Pedestrian and bicycle safety was also taken into consideration. While it’s the same small town, this project has resulted in fewer stops, lower progression speed, and less driver frustration. This presentation details the before-and-after study, including the benefit-cost analysis.

Us 41 Temporary Bridge Installation, Bryan Wright, Jeff Simkins, Mike Matel
Purdue Road School
US 41 in Evansville carries approximately 50,000 vehicles a day. The existing bridges along this corridor were in need of rehabilitation, but two lanes of traffic had to be maintained during construction. Due to the size of the existing bridges, two lanes could not be maintained on each bridge, so a temporary modular bridge was erected in the median and launched into place between the existing bridges. Come learn about this project.
