Computational Separation Of Bulk And Surface Recombination Using Contactless Photoconductive Decay, Frederick P. Giles, Richard J. Schwartz

A novel, computational approach to distinguishing between bulk and surface recombination in crystalline silicon is presented. The Photoconductive Decay technique, applied with a probe of sufficiently long wavelength, senses no informiation about carrier diffusion or distributions in samples, thus isolating carrier recombination as the sole cause of its decay signal. If the recombination and transport parameters of' a sample remain cor~standt uring the decay, the information content and collective properties of the decay paIameters allow them to be solved simultaneously to produce unique values for the bulk lifetime and surface recombination velocities of the measurement sample. The Effect Of Quality On Circulation In An Aging Collection, E. Stewart Saunders

Does the strength of relationship between the quality of a book collection and its circulation increase as the collection becomes older? To examine this question circulation data for a collection of academic books were collected for an early period and a later period and book review evaluations from Choice were regressed on these data for each period. The regression coefficients for the two periods were compared to determine if an increase occurred in the later period. The increase was quite small and not statistically significant. The procedure was repeated for books in the humanities and in the social sciences with …

Determinants Of International And Intercultural Human Resource Control: The Case Of Taiwanese Subsidiaries Int He People's Republic Of China, Bih-Shiaw Jaw, John Hannon

This study develops a framework to categorize international and intercultural human resource (IHR) control at the subsidiary level across cultures. The effects of interorganizational interdependencies, competitive strategies, and cultural differences on the three different dimensions of IH control (input, behavior, and output) were studied using a sample of 100 Taiwanese subsidiaries operating in the People's Republic of China. The most notable relationships that were found include a robust association between a low cost competition strategy and the three dimensions of IHR control and the impact of cultural differences on one type of control.

As new equity markets continue to emerge worldwide, the topic area of stock exchange listings has sparked interest among financial scholars and corporate managers alike. In this article, we review and synthesize empirical studies that examine both new and dual international and intranational listings of common stocks. The studies that we review have been conducted to provide managers and policty makers with information about the effects of listing on stock prices and to use listings as a venue to provide insights about market organization, market micro-structure, factors that determine stock prices and returns, and international capital market integration. Agency Costs And The Performance Implications Of International Joint Venture Internalization, Jeffrey J. Reuer, Kent D. Miller

Recent studies have examined the determinants of international joint venture (IJV) formations and stock market reactions to such investments. Less is known, however, about the evolution of IJVs and the attendant performance implications for parent firms. This paper examines one specific type of IJV evolution, IJB internalization, whereby one firm acquires the IJV by buying out its partner(s). Standard agency theory variables are hypothesized toinfluence parent firm valuation effects. The results indicate that parent firm valuation effects are positively related to the parent firm equity owned by insiders and the interaction of debt financing and free cash flow.
