Thermal Performance Of A Pump-Assisted Capillary Cooler, Danny J. Lohan, Bhaskarjyoti Sarma, Shailesh N. Joshi, Ercan M. Dede, Anali Soto, Srivathsan Sudhakar, Justin A. Weibel

CTRC Research Publications

The heat transfer and hydraulic performance of a flat evaporator, pump-assisted capillary loop cooler is evaluated for a 1 cm2 heat source. The cooler consists of a copper manifold that houses a compensation chamber that feeds liquid to a sintered, flat evaporator wick below via a micro-tube array. Liquid evaporates from the copper wick as it is attached to the heater through a copper base plate. The custom cooler design offers separate flow routes for liquid and vapor phases during steady operation and thereby maintaining the pressure balance of the flow loop. The cooler performance is evaluated using de-ionized …

Assessing Industry-Critical Skill Development In Engineering Technology Capstone Courses, Rustin Webster, Matthew Turner Jan 2024

Assessing Industry-Critical Skill Development In Engineering Technology Capstone Courses, Rustin Webster, Matthew Turner

School of Engineering Technology Faculty Publications

To meet industrial expectations, engineering and engineering technology (ET) graduates are expected to possess the critical competencies of design, problem-solving, communication, and teamwork. However, industry stakeholders and academic studies routinely identify these as skills gaps: areas graduates need to develop to a higher standard or are currently lacking when entering the work force. To address this issue, many undergraduate programs in the United States have implemented a comprehensive and integrative experience at the end of an academic program, often called a capstone course(s). The rate of adoption has grown such that approximately three-quarters of all undergraduate and graduate institutions include …

Maintenance Decision Criteria In Facility Management, Deniz Besiktepe, Mehmet E. Ozbek, Rebecca Atadero Jan 2024

Maintenance Decision Criteria In Facility Management, Deniz Besiktepe, Mehmet E. Ozbek, Rebecca Atadero

Bowen School of Construction Faculty Publications

This research report investigates how facilities management (FM) professionals make decisions about building maintenance, a central responsibility in FM that accounts for a majority of operational effort and costs. Given the complexity of maintenance activities and the many conflicting factors involved (like cost, safety, condition, schedules, and compliance), the study aims to identify and rank key criteria that influence maintenance decision-making. To do this, the authors conducted a comprehensive literature review and a nationwide survey of facilities management professionals from IFMA and APPA. The result is a set of fundamental decision criteria (e.g., health and safety, code compliance, condition, cost, …

Needs Assessment – National Repository For Nsf Agep Deliverables, Christie Sahley, Megan Sapp-Nelson, Donna Ferullo, Linda Mason, Hanzi Xie

Libraries Faculty and Staff Scholarship and Research

This white paper proposes the establishment of a National Repository for NSF Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate (AGEP) Deliverables to address the critical need for preserving and sharing a wide array of materials generated from the AGEP program. Recognizing the challenges of ephemeral storage solutions and the absence of a unified collection mechanism, the paper underscores the repository's role in promoting justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI) research. It emphasizes the importance of accommodating diverse data types, enhancing discoverability, and ensuring long-term access to educational materials, policy documents, and research outcomes. Through a comprehensive approach, the proposed repository …

Critical Race Digital Literacy Rubric For Assessing Mis/Disinformation Literacy Instruction Lesson Plans, Melissa Chomintra Jan 2024

Critical Race Digital Literacy Rubric For Assessing Mis/Disinformation Literacy Instruction Lesson Plans, Melissa Chomintra

Libraries Faculty and Staff Scholarship and Research

While librarians have been at the forefront of the fight against fake news, misinformation, and disinformation, offering invaluable guidance and tools through information literacy instruction, there is a noteworthy gap in the adoption of pedagogical approaches rooted in critical theory within mis/disinformation literacy lesson plans. This suggests there may not be well-defined or standardized frameworks for incorporating these theories into library instruction. The enclosed article explores Critical Race Digital Literacy (CRDL) as a pedagogical approach to mis/disinformation literacy education by proposing a rubric for assessing mis/disinformation lesson plans. The rubric is grounded in the principles of critical race theory, emphasizing …

Business Archives As A Tool For Academic Business Researchers, Annette Bochenek, Ilana Stonebraker Jan 2024

Business Archives As A Tool For Academic Business Researchers, Annette Bochenek, Ilana Stonebraker

Libraries Faculty and Staff Scholarship and Research

This paper examines the structure and collections in business archives in order to create a list of suggestions to better prepare researchers seeking historical business data prior to 1970. Four business archivists were chosen for interviews from a variety of industries. The article shares seven tips gained from the interviews, including getting to know what is housed or not housed in the business archive, looking for archives with museum arms, and considering the importance of legal permission as part of the process for utilizing business archives. The authors also explore how business librarians can better support the work of business …

Quantitative, empirical approaches to establishing the structure of psychopathology hold promise to improve on traditional psychiatric classification systems. The Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology (HiTOP) is a framework that summarizes the substantial and growing body of quantitative evidence on the structure of psychopathology. To achieve its aims, HiTOP must incorporate emerging research in a systematic, ongoing fashion. In this article, we describe the historical context and grounding of the principles and procedures for revising the HiTOP framework. Informed by strengths and shortcomings of previous classification systems, the proposed revisions protocol is a formalized system focused around three pillars: (a) prioritizing systematic …

Clcweb Call For Papers: Ai And/As Form Jan 2024

Clcweb Call For Papers: Ai And/As Form

CLCWeb Calls for Papers

We are now several years into the growing interest in “generative AI” that followed the introduction of transformer-based Large Language Models (LLMs) and text-to-image generators (Stable Diffusion, DALL-E), and more than a year from the explosive public release of ChatGPT on November 30, 2022. This special issue of CLCWeb is about how theorists and analysts of culture are approaching formal questions in the context of technologies of machine learning and generative AI, and, also, conversely, about how to theorize AI’s forms.

We seek contributions to these debates that address the question of AI and/as form, with the term “form” …
