High-Resolution Dynamic Atomic Force Microscopy In Liquids With Different Feedback Architectures, John Melcher, David Martinez-Martin, Miriam Jaafar, Julio Gomez-Herrero, Arvind Raman Feb 2013

High-Resolution Dynamic Atomic Force Microscopy In Liquids With Different Feedback Architectures, John Melcher, David Martinez-Martin, Miriam Jaafar, Julio Gomez-Herrero, Arvind Raman

Birck and NCN Publications

The recent achievement of atomic resolution with dynamic atomic force microscopy (dAFM) [Fukuma et al., Appl. Phys. Lett. 2005, 87, 034101], where quality factors of the oscillating probe are inherently low, challenges some accepted beliefs concerning sensitivity and resolution in dAFM imaging modes. Through analysis and experiment we study the performance metrics for high-resolution imaging with dAFM in liquid media with amplitude modulation (AM), frequency modulation (FM) and drive-amplitude modulation (DAM) imaging modes. We find that while the quality factors of dAFM probes may deviate by several orders of magnitude between vacuum and liquid media, their sensitivity to tip-sample forces …

Development Of A Model Of Airline Consumer Satisfaction, Erin E. Bowen, Brent D. Bowen, Dean E. Headley Feb 2013

Development Of A Model Of Airline Consumer Satisfaction, Erin E. Bowen, Brent D. Bowen, Dean E. Headley

Aviation Technology Faculty and Staff Publications

Previous research on perceptions, satisfaction, and attitudes regarding the major commercial air carriers in the United States has provided little more than an interesting descriptive “snapshot” of the average air traveler. Building upon 20 years of work with the National Airline Quality Rating, the present study attempts to move beyond basic descriptive information of air travelers to identify attitudinal patterns and relationships in the way consumers at varying levels of travel frequency view the commercial air industry. Development of such a model allows key players the ability to improve their understanding of the prime drivers and perceptions of passenger behavior. …

Environmental Ph Affects Photoautotrophic Growth Of Synechocystis Sp. Pcc 6803 Strains Carrying Mutations In The Lumenal Proteins Of Psii., Tina C. Summerfield, Tim S. Crawford, Roger Young, Jocelyn Ps Chua, Rebecca Macdonald, Louis A. Sherman, Julian J. Eaton-Rye Feb 2013

Environmental Ph Affects Photoautotrophic Growth Of Synechocystis Sp. Pcc 6803 Strains Carrying Mutations In The Lumenal Proteins Of Psii., Tina C. Summerfield, Tim S. Crawford, Roger Young, Jocelyn Ps Chua, Rebecca Macdonald, Louis A. Sherman, Julian J. Eaton-Rye

Department of Biological Sciences Faculty Publications

Synechocystis sp. strain PCC 6803 grows photoautotrophically across a broad pH range, but wild-type cultures reach a higher density at elevated pH; however, photoheterotrophic growth is similar at high and neutral pH. A number of PSII mutants each lacking at least one lumenal extrinsic protein, and carrying a second PSII lumenal mutation, are able to grow photoautotrophically in BG-11 medium at pH 10.0, but not pH 7.5. We investigated the basis of this pH effect and observed no pH-specific change in variable fluorescence yield from PSII centers of the wild type or the pH-dependent ΔPsbO:ΔPsbU and ΔPsbV:ΔCyanoQ strains; however, 77 …

History / Sustainable Development - Purdue University, Megan Sapp Nelson, Katherine Beavis

Data Curation Profiles Directory

The researcher is working on a project to establish a longitudinal data set that will look at the long term impact of sustainable development in the Nnindye community located in the Mpigi District in Uganda. She will conduct oral history interviews with community members and gather data on cultural, medical, medicinal, and agricultural practices. She plans to use the data to gauge the success of development projects and to gain a better understanding of cultural change as it occurs. The researcher believes that these interviews will be of interest to other researchers, practitioners, and the general public. However, the researcher …

A Faculty-Focused Course Design/Redesign Process, Pat Reid

IMPACT Presentations

As a part of the IMPACT (Instruction Matters: Purdue Academic Course Transformation) project, faculty attend weekly developmental workshops. As these have become progressively more focused and interactive, we realized that many faculty members have little to no education in sound course design. As a result, a faculty-focused, backward design process was developed that offers a flexible, step-by-step model. The model provides both practical and theoretical background at each step, links to articles, videos, websites, and more for faculty who wish to delve deeper. Presented at the EDUCASE Learning Initiative (ELI) 2013 Annual Meeting, Denver, Colorado.
