Ai Agent And Mcp-Based Information Requirement Framework For Building Digital Twins, Ting Lu Chiang, Ruoyu Jin, Weifeng Chen, Lu Gan, Hongying Meng
CIB Conferences
In the operational phase of buildings, Digital Twins (DT) is utilized to enhance maintenance quality and optimize energy efficiency. Building Information Modeling (BIM) serves not only as a visualization tool but as a semantic foundation within this framework, enabling dynamic IoT sensor data to be accurately mapped into physical elements. The process of integrating BIM models with IoT and DT for application development is lengthy. This governance dilemma arises from the gap between high-level organizational requirements and underlying technical implementation, or lack of clear, adaptable information requirement definitions and the inclusion of redundant data in BIM deliverables, which increases management …
Evaluation Of Innovative Wearable Technologies For Proactive Health And Safety Management In Energy Sector Construction: Evidence From South Africa, Brenda Matsie, Mohlomi Raliile, Chris Allen
Evaluation Of Innovative Wearable Technologies For Proactive Health And Safety Management In Energy Sector Construction: Evidence From South Africa, Brenda Matsie, Mohlomi Raliile, Chris Allen
CIB Conferences
This study evaluated the role of innovative wearable technologies in enhancing the health and safety (H&S) of construction workers in South Africa’s energy sector. While current management tools, such as H&S audits and incident investigations, remain foundational, they are limited in their ability to detect dynamic and physiological hazards in real time. Grounded in Diffusion of Innovations (DOI) theory and the Cognitive Systemic Technology Acceptance Index (C-STAI), this study examined worker perceptions of current H&S practices, organisational H&S culture, and the adoption of innovative wearables. A quantitative cross-sectional survey was conducted with 161 construction professionals. Descriptive statistics and reliability analysis …

Linking Project Information Management To Construction Project Success In Digitalised Environments, Quang-Phuong Luu, Quan T. Nguyen, Eric Lou
CIB Conferences
The increasing digitalisation of construction projects has transformed how information is produced, stored, and exchanged. Yet despite widespread adoption of digital platforms and standards, many projects continue to experience coordination failures, safety issues, and weak organisational learning, suggesting that information availability alone does not guarantee improved outcomes. This paper examines how Project Information Management (PrIM) influences project success in digitalised environments, moving beyond traditional delivery-focused criteria. Using a structured literature-based synthesis of 27 journal articles combined with a mechanism mapping approach, it develops a mechanism-based explanation of how PrIM bridges digital infrastructure and project success through organisational processes. The analysis …

Barriers To Essential Services On Construction Sites: A Reflection Of Sexual Health Services., Henerico Henerico, Geraldine Kikwasi, Joel Zambi

Sexual health services being are critical for the well-being of construction workers, however, it has been lacking attention in many occupational settings. In Tanzania, construction workers, many of whom operate under informal or temporary conditions, face various sexual health challenges. This study examines the barriers to providing sexual health services on construction sites. Data was obtained from 80 randomly selected respondents on ongoing construction sites using questionnaires. The main barriers to providing sexual health are lack of funding for sexual health education, exclusion of sexual health from occupational health and safety, absence of collaborations between workplace with clinics or NGOs, …
An Autonomous And Controlled Agentic Framework For Structural Analysis, Viet Hung Dang, Kim-Anh Do, Tien Dung Nguyen
An Autonomous And Controlled Agentic Framework For Structural Analysis, Viet Hung Dang, Kim-Anh Do, Tien Dung Nguyen
CIB Conferences
This study introduces a proof-of-concept agentic framework designed to assist structural engineers in managing sophisticated computational workflows for complex structures. The proposed framework automates the structural analysis lifecycle while adhering strictly to procedural controls. Unlike conventional workflows that rely on graphical user interfaces or automation scripts, this framework utilizes large language model (LLM) orchestrators to decompose complex structural problems into executable sub-tasks, such as structural data extraction, structural analysis, and results visualization and discussion. Furthermore, the data extraction agent establishes a live connection to AutoCAD to extract structural data, the physics-based agent interacts with the finite element software OpenSees to …

An Assessment Of The Extent Of Adherence To Health And Safety Regulations At Building Construction Sites In And Around Gaborone, Joseph Ssegawa, Kganetso Kgotlaetsile
CIB Conferences
The article presents findings of a study aimed at assessing the extent to which health and safety regulations (HSR) are adhered to at building construction sites in and around Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana. The study was motivated by the increasing levels of construction activity in Botswana, alongside some incidents of construction related accidents reported in the media. A structured questionnaire survey was used in the study. It was administered to 126 construction workers and seven government health and safety inspectors. The SPSS software was used to analyse data. The findings showed that, there is a low adherence to …

Construction activities especially in hot tropical climate exposes workers to health and safety risks associated with extreme hot weather conditions. Considering the magnitude of health and safety risks associated with extreme heat exposure and the prevailing safety culture and attitude of among workers that impede adaptation to safe work practices under extreme heat conditions, it is imperative that stakeholders pay serious attention to workplace climate change impact to help improve adaptation and safety measures of construction workers. This study provides empirical evidence on safety awareness and practices among Nigerian construction workers, often exposed to extreme hot weather conditions. A structured …
Nutrition And Wellbeing In Construction: Exploring Dietary Practices For Safer Healthier Workforces, Emmanuel Aboagye-Nimo, Charlie Roberts, Lewis Gough
Nutrition And Wellbeing In Construction: Exploring Dietary Practices For Safer Healthier Workforces, Emmanuel Aboagye-Nimo, Charlie Roberts, Lewis Gough
CIB Conferences
Construction workplaces significant physical and cognitive demands on workers, yet the role of nutrition in supporting energy, concentration and safety is seldom addressed in industry discourse. This study explores how construction workers understand and manage their daily eating habits, and how these habits influence performance, wellbeing and risk. The research forms part of an ongoing qualitative inquiry, using semi‑structured interviews with workers from a range of roles including bricklayers, plasterers, waste management teams and site managers. Early findings indicate considerable variation in nutritional practices, shaped by time pressures, cost, convenience and site routines. While some workers rely heavily on fast …

Additive construction (AC) is progressing beyond pilot applications towards structural, load-bearing use, yet its path to mainstream adoption remains constrained by a set of interrelated and persistent barriers. This paper examines the drivers and barriers to scaling AC through the analytical lens of Rogers' Diffusion of Innovations framework, reviewing academic and grey literature organised around its five adoption rate dimensions: relative advantage, complexity, compatibility, trialability, and observability. The review finds that the relative advantages of AC are well evidenced, spanning labour efficiency, delivery speed, design freedom, and embodied carbon reduction. Complexity and compatibility emerge as the critical constraints on diffusion, …

Construction safety communication, a central mechanism for hazard mitigation, has advanced along three global trajectories, namely symbolic standardization, cognitive diagnostics, and intelligent digital interventions. However, their combined insights have been minimally applied to the Indian construction context, where high fatality rates persist, disproportionate to the country’s share of the global workforce. By interviewing nine safety experts from various hierarchical levels in public, private, institutional sectors, and a professional body, this study explores how these trajectories are reflected in the Indian construction industry. Four thematic findings emerge: (1) attentional limitations responsible for failure of static safety communication channels; (2) organisational structures …
