Scattering Theory Of Transport For Mesoscopic Superconductors, Supriyo Datta, Philip F. Bagwell, M. P. Anantram Jan 1996

Scattering Theory Of Transport For Mesoscopic Superconductors, Supriyo Datta, Philip F. Bagwell, M. P. Anantram

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

The scattering theory of transport has been shown to provide a rigorous theoretical framework for the description of normal mesoscopic systems. This approach is based on the observation that, as long as dissipative processes in the active region can be neglected, each scattering eigenstate communicates with one and only one reservoir and as such can be assumt:d to be in equilibrium with that reservoir. This allows us to calculate any quantity of interest under non-equilibrium conditions using a simple extension of equilibrium statistical mechanics, without the need to solve complicated kinetic equations. In this review we discuss how the same …

An Interdisciplinary Solar Energy Project, William J. Hutzel Jan 1996

An Interdisciplinary Solar Energy Project, William J. Hutzel

School of Engineering Technology Faculty Publications

An HVAC course, previously offered to students in Mechanical Engineering Technology (MET), has been re-structured to include students in Building Construction Management (BCM). A large project is always an integral part of this course, creating a unique opportunity for collaboration between two distinctly different groups of Technology students. This cooperation is particularly beneficial because MET and BCM graduates frequently cross paths during their professional careers. Many MET graduates operate and service heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment that was originally specified and installed by BCM graduates. This paper discusses and evaluates student interactions during a solar …

Development Of A Procedure To Identify Aggregates For Bituminous Surfaces In Indiana, Douglas W. Bruner, Jung Chan Choi, Terry R. West Jan 1996

Development Of A Procedure To Identify Aggregates For Bituminous Surfaces In Indiana, Douglas W. Bruner, Jung Chan Choi, Terry R. West

JTRP Technical Reports

Adequate friction resistance is needed to prevent pavement slipperiness and to allow vehicles to stop in a reasonable distance. In stone mastic asphalt surfaces, friction resistance is mainly a function of the interaction between the aggregates exposed at the road surface and the vehicle tires. Performance of the aggregate is reduced over time by wear and polishing as a consequence of vehicular traffic. In this research a method to investigate aggregate performance based on physical, chemical and petrographic factors has been evaluated. The objective was to develop a laboratory method to test Indiana dolomite, limestone, sandstone, and gravel aggregates to …

Automation Of Overweight Truck Permit Process For Michigan Trains, Robert K. Whitford, David P. Moffett

JTRP Technical Reports

Technical guidance was provided by Purdue University to the Indiana Department of Transportation regarding specific issues around automation of permit issuance for overweight and oversized vehicles on a specific piece of highway in Northwest Indiana. Supporting this guidance were four commentaries which were: 1. Functional Specification for Automation of Michigan Trains 2. Draft Commentary on Touch ToneTM/Voice Response System Security for Michigan Trains 3. Draft Commentary on Touch ToneTM/Voice Response System Vendor for Michigan Trains 4. Draft Commentary on Touch ToneTM/Voice Response System Auditability for Michigan Trains These are included as appendices to this report.
