Sequential Detection Of Linear Features In Two-Dimensional Random Fields, Paul H. Eichel, Edward J. Delp
Sequential Detection Of Linear Features In Two-Dimensional Random Fields, Paul H. Eichel, Edward J. Delp
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
The detection of edges, lines, and other linear features in two-dimensional discrete images is a low level processing step of fundamental importance in the automatic processing of such data. Many subsequent tasks in computer vision, pattern recognition, and image processing depend on the successful execution of this step. In this thesis, we will address one class of techniques for performing this task: sequential detection. Our aims are fourfold. First, we would like to discuss the use of sequential techniques as an attractive alternative to the somewhat better known methods of approaching this problem. Although several researchers have obtained significant results …

The purpose of this program is to provide general analytic support to Sandia National Laboratory’s effort to develop high efficiency, high concentration solar cells. This support has taken the following forms: 1) Implementation of the two-dimensional silicon code on Purdue’s Cyber 205. 2) The release of both the one- and two-dimensional silicon codes to Sandia National Laboratory. 3) Continued enhancement of the codes and updating of the physical models used by the codes. 4) Use of the two-dimensional code to investigate the performance and design of high concentration solar cells.speed over conventional sequential multi-mode systems. The multi-mode system which uses …

A Critical Analysis Of The Rose-Weaver Measurement Technique For Bsf Silicon Solar Cells, Edmund K. Banghart
A Critical Analysis Of The Rose-Weaver Measurement Technique For Bsf Silicon Solar Cells, Edmund K. Banghart
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
The design of the optimal efficiency silicon solar cell requires the minimization of several performance-limiting phenomena. In particular, much improvement is necessary to decrease the loss of minority carriers to recombination. Thus, in order to focus our design efforts in the development of an optimal efficiency solar cell it is imperative that we be able to experimentally distinguish and assign values to the different forms of minority carrier recombination in the cell. Recently, B. H. Rose and H. T. Weaver of Sandia National Laboratories have proposed a method to evaluate minority carrier recombination in the back surface field (BSF) solar …
Power System Simulation By Parallel Computation, D. L. Dickmander, D. P. Carroll
Power System Simulation By Parallel Computation, D. L. Dickmander, D. P. Carroll
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
The concept of parallel processing is applied to power system simulation. The Component Connection Model (CCM) and appropriate numerical methods, such as the Relaxation Algorithm, are established as a conceptual basis for the parallel simulation of small power networks and individual power system components. A commercially available multiprocessing system is introduced for the power system simulator, and the system is adapted to facilitate high-speed parallel simulations. Two separate strategies for controlling the parallel simulation, synchronous and asynchronous relaxation, are introduced, and their performances are evaluated for the parallel simulation of an induction motor drive system. The performances of the parallel …

Image Understanding By Hierarchical Symbolic Representation And Inexact Matching Of Attributed Graphs, Mohamed A. Eshera
Image Understanding By Hierarchical Symbolic Representation And Inexact Matching Of Attributed Graphs, Mohamed A. Eshera
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
We study the symbolic representation of imagery information by a powerful global representation scheme in the form of Attributed Relational Graph (ARG), and propose new techniques for the extraction of such representation from spatial-domain images, and for performing the task of image understanding through the analysis of the extracted ARG representation. To achieve practical image understanding tasks, the system needs to comprehend the imagery information in a global form. Therefore, we propose a multi-layer hierarchical scheme for the extraction of global symbolic representation from spatial-domain images. The proposed scheme produces a symbolic mapping of the input data in terms of …
One-Dimensional Wave Propagation In Relatively Stiff, Partially Reticulated Acoustical Foams, J Stuart Bolton, Ergad Gold
One-Dimensional Wave Propagation In Relatively Stiff, Partially Reticulated Acoustical Foams, J Stuart Bolton, Ergad Gold
Publications of the Ray W. Herrick Laboratories
Recently the authors have conducted measurements of the acoustic properties of a relatively stiff (in vacuo bulk modulus of elasticity greater than air) partially reticulated (i.e., some of the cell membranes remained intact) polyurethane foam of the type often used in noise control applications. The results were interpreted by using a theory governing one‐dimensional wave propagation in elastic porous materials [G. S. Rosin, Sov. Phys. Acoust. 19, 60–64 (1973)] which was extended to account for frequency‐dependent viscous and thermal effects. The parameters of the theoretical model (flow resistance, structure factor, frame bulk modulus of elasticity, and loss factor, etc.) …

Some Prototype Examples For Expert Systems V.2, K. S. Fu
Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports
This report consists of the nineteen term project reports for the graduate-level course EE695G ” Expert Systems and Knowledge Engineering”, which was offered for the fall semester of 1984 in the School of Electrical Engineering. The purpose of the term project is to provide each student an opportunity of designing and implementing a prototype expert system. The application area of each of these expert systems was selected by the student(s) working on the projects. This report is published for the purpose of documenting these results for future reference by the students of the above-mentioned course and, possibly, other workers in …
