Shape Recovery From Robot Contour Tracking With Force Feedback, Shaheen Ahmad, Chuan N. Lee Mar 1990

Shape Recovery From Robot Contour Tracking With Force Feedback, Shaheen Ahmad, Chuan N. Lee

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

In this paper we describe a process for shape recovery from robot contour-tracking operations with force feedback. Shape recovery is an important task for self-teaching robots and for exploratory operations in unknown environments. An algorithm which directs a position controlled robot around an unknown planar contour using the steady state contact force information is described in this paper. The shape recovery from the planar contouring is not a trivial problem. It is experimentally found that there is significant distortion of the original contour if direct kinematics is used to recover the object’s shape, as we are unable to recover the …

Father’S Care – Involvement, Influence, And Affection: Three Keys To Father-Child Relationships, Charles A. Smith Mar 1990

Father’S Care – Involvement, Influence, And Affection: Three Keys To Father-Child Relationships, Charles A. Smith

Historical Documents of the Purdue Cooperative Extension Service Archive

Though they may sometimes find it difficult to express their feelings, most fathers care about their children and families. In a 1980 Gallup poll, six out of ten fathers said their families were “the most important element of my life at this time.” Only 8 percent said their families were unimportant to them. When asked what they found most satisfying about their families, fathers rated “children,” “closeness,” and “being together” as personally important.

Advances In Nonlinear Matched Filtering, O. K. Ersoy, Y. Yoon, N. Keshava, D. Zimmerman Mar 1990

Advances In Nonlinear Matched Filtering, O. K. Ersoy, Y. Yoon, N. Keshava, D. Zimmerman

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

Symmetric nonlinear matched filters (SNMF’s) involve the transformation of the signal spectrum and the filter transfer function through pointwise nonlinearities before they are multiplied in the transform domain. The resulting system is analogous to a 3-layer neural net The experimental and theoretical results discussed indicate that SNMF’s hold considerable potential to achieve high-power of discrimination, resolution and large SNR. The statistical analysis of a particular SNMF in the 2-class problem indicates that the performance coefficient of the SNMF is about four times larger than the performance coefficient of the classical matched filter. In terms of resolving closeby signals, there seems …

A Circuit Layout Methodology Incorporating Machine Learning, A. Ford, R. Fujii

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

We describe the use of a form of machine learning which makes efficient use of time and computing resources for developing and optimizing a transistor level IC layout. Our learning system abstracts new knowledge from examples it is provided and incorporates this new knowledge into a generalized solution graph. This generalized solution graph contains information about layout topologies known to the system

Adaptive Control Of Flexible Joint Robots Derived From Arm Energy Considerations, Shaheen Ahmad, Fouad Mrad Feb 1990

Adaptive Control Of Flexible Joint Robots Derived From Arm Energy Considerations, Shaheen Ahmad, Fouad Mrad

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Technical Reports

Almost all industrial robots exhibit joint flexibility due to mechanical compliance of their gear boxes. In this paper we outline a design of an adaptive controller for flexible joint robots based on the arms energy. The desired actuator trajectory in a flexible joint robot is dependent not only on the desired kinematic trajectory of the link but also on the link dynamics. Unfortunately, link dynamic parameters are unknown in most cases, as a result the desired actuator trajectory is also unknown. To overcome this difficulty, a number of control schemes have suggested the use of acceleration and link jerk feedback. …

Transistor-Based Measurements Of Electron Injection Currents In P-Type Gaas Doped 1018–1020 Cm-3, M. E. Klausmeier-Brown, M. R. Melloch, Mark S. Lundstrom Jan 1990

Transistor-Based Measurements Of Electron Injection Currents In P-Type Gaas Doped 1018–1020 Cm-3, M. E. Klausmeier-Brown, M. R. Melloch, Mark S. Lundstrom

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Faculty Publications

Measurements of electron currents injected into p+‐GaAs are presented for molecular beam epitaxially grown material doped from 2×1018 to 8×1019 cm−3 with Be. The collector current versus base‐emitter voltage characteristics of n‐p+‐n GaAs homojunction bipolar transistors are analyzed, and the results are interpreted in terms of the quantity (n0Dn), where n0 is the equilibrium minority‐carrier concentration and Dn is the minority‐carrier diffusion coefficient. The results are consistent with earlier measurements of (n0Dn) made using metalorganic chemical vapor deposited p+‐n GaAs solar …
