A Process For Developing Transit Agency Comprehensive Training Plans, Daniel O'Toole, James Marshall

Center for Urban Studies Publications and Reports

This report addresses a project whose goals were to create, use, and disseminate information on a process for developing transit agency comprehensive training plans (i.e., plans that contain the training needs for all positions in an organization). The report considers the following:

• The importance of agency training plans and the need for an appropriate process to produce one.

• Information on the project that was undertaken to design and use an appropriate transit agency training plan process.

Center for Urban Studies Publications and Reports

The Milwaukie Storefront was a one year program intended as a catalyst for the downtown and to focus attention on the potential for improved business activity. The Storefront, initiated in September of 1983, served as a technical resource, and as a coordinator and facilitator of promotional events in downtown Milwaukie.

This report describes the Storefront as an organization, looking at its structure and original purpose. A review of the individual projects is presented to demonstrate the range of Storefront activities. In drawing conclusions, the report looks at whether the Storefront was able to meet its expectations and cites the accomplishments …

Use Of Synthetic Speech In Tests Of Speech Discrimination, Jane S. Gordon Jan 1985

Use Of Synthetic Speech In Tests Of Speech Discrimination, Jane S. Gordon

Dissertations and Theses

The purpose of this study was to develop two tape-recorded synthetic speech discrimination test tapes and assess their intelligibility in order to determine whether or not synthetic speech was intelligible and if it would prove useful in speech discrimination testing. Four scramblings of the second MU-6 monosyllable word list were generated by the ECHO l C speech synthesizer using two methods of generating synthetic speech called TEXTALKER and SPEAKEASY. These stimuli were presented in one ear to forty normal-hearing adult subjects, 36 females and 4 males, at 60 dB HL under headphone&. Each subject listened to two different scramblings of …

Job Satisfaction Of Teachers In The Portland Metropolitan Area: An Examination Of Differing Factors And Their Relationship To Herzberg And Lortie Theories, Laura Lee Perko Jan 1985

Job Satisfaction Of Teachers In The Portland Metropolitan Area: An Examination Of Differing Factors And Their Relationship To Herzberg And Lortie Theories, Laura Lee Perko

Dissertations and Theses

This study addresses job satisfaction of public school teachers in seven districts of the Portland Metropolitan Area (N = 2,133; validated response = 1,444; ratio of 67.698 percent). The three research questions are: (1) How satisfied are teachers in the PMA with their jobs? (2) What are the primary differing factors affecting teacher satisfaction and dissatisfaction, and do these factors and their relationship to satisfaction conform with Herzberg and Lortie theories? (3) How does satisfaction and dissatisfaction vary as a function of the following "demographic" factors: age, sex, grade level, years of service, highest degree earned? Findings from the three …

Effects Of Dehydration On Hemoglobin Oxygen Affinity And Blood Cell Volume In Two Anurans, Andrew Christopher Zygmunt Aug 1984

Effects Of Dehydration On Hemoglobin Oxygen Affinity And Blood Cell Volume In Two Anurans, Andrew Christopher Zygmunt

Dissertations and Theses

Two aspects of possible adaptation in cardiovascular performance caused by increased plasma electrolytes were examined. Cells in anisotonic plasma may either act as osmometers or volume regulate. Blood flow rate is dependent upon cell viscosity, which in turn is a consequence of cell volume and membrane deform-ability. Cell volume changes which increase membrane deform-ability will thus potentially extend the limits of dehydration tolerance. It was found in R. catesbeiana and B. marinus that red blood cell is maintain constant volume during dehydration. Cells in vitro initially lose water, but then sodium, potassium and water move into the cell. Cell viscosity …

The Effect On Culture-Bound Evaluation By The Intercultural Communication Workshop (Icw) At Portland State University, Marion Franc Sørensen Jun 1984

The Effect On Culture-Bound Evaluation By The Intercultural Communication Workshop (Icw) At Portland State University, Marion Franc Sørensen

Dissertations and Theses

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect on culture-bound evaluation by the Intercultural Communication Workshop (ICW) at Portland State University. An increase in positive evaluation of an intercultural dyad was taken to indicate a decrease in culture-bound evaluation. Methodology consisted of an adaptation of Dawes' "Direct Estimation Techniques" which was utilized in creating the testing instrument. The results are inconclusive but suggest that the ICW training may be more effective in this dimension for the American students than for International students.

Derivatives Of Trifluorovinylsulfur Pentafluoride And F-(Tert-Butyl) Hypochlorite, Jo Ann Marie Canich May 1984

Derivatives Of Trifluorovinylsulfur Pentafluoride And F-(Tert-Butyl) Hypochlorite, Jo Ann Marie Canich

Dissertations and Theses

Trifluorovinylsulfur pentafluoride dimerizes to (SF5CFCF2)2 in the presence of cesium fluoride. Two derivatives of trifluorovinylsulfur pentafluoride, SF5CF(CF3)C(O)F and SF5CF(CF3)C(O)NH2, were used to prepare the new compounds, SF5CF(CF3)CO2H and SF5CF(CF3)CN, respectively. The first was prepared by reacting the SF5-acid fluoride with water, while the second involved the abstraction of water from the SF5-amide using P4O10. The attempted preparation of a bis-pentafluorosulfur ketone and a pentafluorosulfur containing acid anhydride …

High Valent Chromium (V) And Chromium (Vi) Complexes, Harry Bennett Davis May 1984

High Valent Chromium (V) And Chromium (Vi) Complexes, Harry Bennett Davis

Dissertations and Theses

A new preparative route to the only neutral chromium(V) oxide fluoride, chromium oxide trifluoride, has been accomplished by the reaction of xenon difluoride with chromyl fluoride at high temperature. The chromium oxide trifluoride is produced as crystals which are suitable for single crystal studies. In reactions of chromium oxide trifluoride with alkali and alkaline metal fluorides in anhydrous hydrogen fluoride, new chromium(V) oxide fluoride salts were obtained; these salts were not of high purity due to unknown problems. An attempt to prepare chromium oxide tetrafluoride by the reaction of xenon difluoride with chromyl fluoride in anhydrous hydrogen fluoride failed to …
