Organization For Collection Development In Medium-Sized Academic Libraries, Carol W. Cubberley
Organization For Collection Development In Medium-Sized Academic Libraries, Carol W. Cubberley
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
At the University of Central Florida Library, the librarians with collection development assignments, and the Head of Collection Development, were frustrated in their attempts to fulfill their responsibilities. Those librarians did not report to the Department Head, but to other departments, and only a small percentage of their time was set aside for collection development. This meant that collection development duties frequently were deferred to other duties. There also was uncertainty about what duties could be expected of these librarians. Some functioned only as liaisons to academic departments, while others did extensive selection of material, wrote collection development policies, and …

The Role Of Student Affairs Personnel In Curriculum Planning In The Community College, Howard J. Freas
The Role Of Student Affairs Personnel In Curriculum Planning In The Community College, Howard J. Freas
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
The assumption was made that student affairs professionals are not utilized in or only play a minimal role in the curriculum planning process in community colleges. The fourteen community colleges in Pennsylvania were contacted to evaluate the role of student affairs professionals in curriculum planning in these colleges. The results indicate that the student affairs professionals have a minimal role. The literature review suggests that curriculum planning models either do not exist in community colleges or are poorly defined. Since a curricular planning process is needed at Bucks County Community College, a process model based on Hunkins (1980) was proposed. …

The Motor Fitness Test For The Moderately Mentally Retarded (1976) was used as a pretest and posttest to ascertain progress or lack of progress of students participating in the ten week fitness training program. Conclusions of the practicum were as follows:
1. Middle school age trainable mentally handicapped students exposed to a systematic …
Nutrition Profile Of Dietetic Technology Students: An Assessment Of Application Of Classroom Theory Learned., Perla Miranda-Kushida
Nutrition Profile Of Dietetic Technology Students: An Assessment Of Application Of Classroom Theory Learned., Perla Miranda-Kushida
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
A unique advantage of being enrolled in the Dietetic Technology program at Malcom X College is that it provides the students with the knowledge of nutrition theory as part of their curriculum requirement for graduation. With this in mind, it was the hypothesis that these students will be practicing good nutritional habits for themselves besides being prepared for a career in this field.
Because nutrition and health promotion have awakened a national consciousness at preventing illnesses, the Allied Health Department suggested that nutrition should be made part of the curriculum for all allied health students. However, the college administration, conscious …

Amplification And Chromosomal Dispersion Of Human Endogenous Retroviral Sequences, Paul E. Steele, Malcolm A. Martin, Arnold B. Rabson, Theodore Bryan, Stephen J. O'Brien
Amplification And Chromosomal Dispersion Of Human Endogenous Retroviral Sequences, Paul E. Steele, Malcolm A. Martin, Arnold B. Rabson, Theodore Bryan, Stephen J. O'Brien
Biology Faculty Articles
Endogenous retroviral sequences in humans have undergone amplification events involving both viral and flanking cellular sequences. We cloned members of an amplified family of full-length endogenous retroviral sequences. Genomic blotting, employing a flanking cellular DNA probe derived from a member of this family, revealed a similar array of reactive bands in both humans and chimpanzees, indicating that an amplification event involving retroviral and associated cellular DNA sequences occurred before the evolutionary separation of these two primates. Southern analyses of restricted somatic cell hybrid DNA preparations suggested that endogenous retroviral segments are widely dispersed in the human genome and that amplification …

The program's goal was to provide more accessible continuing education for nurses who identified a need to learn Arterial Blood Gas Analysis. Nurses needed a supplemental learning program to educate them in current nursing practices at their convenience because they could not attend classes.
The module contained learner objectives, educational content, learner activities, feedback and pre- and post-instructional measures. Additionally, a survey was used to establish the nurses’ reactions to the curriculum style. Modules were distributed to those nurses who identified a need …
The Causes Of Student Absenteeism In Community College Classes, Lynn E. Mccutcheon
The Causes Of Student Absenteeism In Community College Classes, Lynn E. Mccutcheon
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
One of the biggest problems facing professors in the Social Science Division at the Annandale Campus of Northern Virginia Community College (NVCC) is poor classroom attendance on the part of some student. When students miss classes they often miss important announcements that impact directly on their grades, as well as learning experiences that are obviously grade-related. Furthermore, the cumulative effect of a combination of missed classes and low grades caused by absenteeism contributes to dropping out of college. One purpose of this MARP was to determine the causes and measure the relative contribution of each cause to the problem of …

The drinking behavior of 96 male normal drinking college students was assessed after they viewed a videotape of a popular prime-time television program complete with advertisements. Different versions of the videotape were used to evaluate the effects of a television program with and without alcohol scenes as crossed with the effects of three different types of advertisements (i.e., beer, nonalcoholic beverages and food). After viewing the videotape, the subjects, who were led to believe that they were participating in two separate and unrelated sets of experimental procedures, were asked to perform a taste rating of light beers, which actually provided …

Strategies For Socialization Of Learning Disabled Students At The Secondary Level, Verden T. Smith
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
Learning disabled students at the secondary level have inferior socialization skills with peer groups and poor self-perceptual skills. Studies indicate that socialization appears to be the keystone of adolescent development. Evaluative instruments employed to discern interpersonal and socialization skills were the IPAT-Anxiety Scale Questionnaire Test-Self-Analysis Form (Cattell, Krug, Scheier) and the Self-Inventory (Simon-Howe-Kirschenbaum). Peer Counseling, observations, filmstrips and guest speakers were utilized to implement this socialization. skills program. Results indicated improved self-esteem, increased communication with peer groups and more positive attitudes toward self and others. (Appendices include sample instruments and student data.)
