Assume that you are the dictator of a small country adjacent to a prosperous first world nation. You have little interaction with this nation because it objects to the manner in which you maintain control of the dissidents in your country. However, there are internal policies of the prosperous nation that, if changed, could bring an economic windfall to your country.

Contracting Between A Japanese Enterprise And An American Enterprise: The Differences In The Importance Of Written Documents As The Final Agreement In The United States And Japan, Kizuki Kuzuhara
ILSA Journal of International & Comparative Law
"One cause of the failure of mission work is that most of the missionaries are entirely ignorant of our history . . . 'what do we care for heathen records?' . . . and consequently estrange their religion from the habits of thought we and our forefathers have been accustomed to for centuries past."'
A. The Differences in the Approach to Forming a Contract
Generally, the Japanese approach to contract formation differs significantly from the American approach. Indeed, without this difference many disputes between the countries would not exist. Nevertheless, presently, the typical American business person says the Japanese approach …

By the end of World War II, increased efforts have been made to limit the enforcement of certain trade barriers which affect international trade, hinder the competition between countries, and prevents the globalization of a free-market system. International Law And Anti-Personnel Landmines, Ariane Sand-Trigo
International Law And Anti-Personnel Landmines, Ariane Sand-Trigo
ILSA Journal of International & Comparative Law
Antipersonnel land mines are among the deadliest and most insidious weapons in the world today: their aim is to maim for life, they cannot distinguish between the footfall of a soldier and that of a child and they recognize no cease-fire or end to war. More than 110 million active mines are scattered in sixty-four countries and the problem is growing worse at a dramatic rate.

International Law And Anti-Personnel Land Mines, Stephen Goose
ILSA Journal of International & Comparative Law
Human Rights Watch was one of the six non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that initiated the International Campaign to Ban Land Mines in 1992. The Campaign calls for a comprehensive international ban on the production, stockpiling, trade and use of antipersonnel land mines. Phosphorous Limitation And Trophic Status In Limestone Quarry Lakes, Dade County, Fl, Isaac Peter Chase
Phosphorous Limitation And Trophic Status In Limestone Quarry Lakes, Dade County, Fl, Isaac Peter Chase
HCNSO Student Theses and Dissertations
While limestone quarry lakes have existed in South Florida for many years, only recently have they received serious scrutiny. A thorough understanding of the trophic dynamics of these lakes has yet to be achieved. Questions have arisen as to the value of these lakes for such purposes as water reclamation, conservation, and recreational use. The purpose of this study was twofold, 1) to investigate the trophic processes within these lakes with special regard to phosphorus limitation, and 2) to help provide a better understanding of the linmology of these lakes, specifically through the quantification and identification of the invertebrate life …

Information Systems In Non-Profit Organizations: Enhancing Performance Through Online Help, Robert H. Lane
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this dissertation is to focus attention on the problems which non-profit organizations face in dealing with employee dissatisfaction and turnover among clerical staff whose principal responsibility is data entry. To address the problem, a presentation on the background, a discussion of the managerial and information systems implications, and an end-user needs assessment culminated in the development of an online help system for an IDM AS/400-based membership management package.
The system enables the data entry staff to easily locate the answers to most of their commonly asked questions without leaving their workstation, thus reducing the need for as …

Design Information Recovery From Legacy System Cobol Source Code: Research On A Reverse Engineering Methodology, Robert Lee Miller
Design Information Recovery From Legacy System Cobol Source Code: Research On A Reverse Engineering Methodology, Robert Lee Miller
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
Much of the software in the world today was developed from the mid-1960s to the mid- 1970s.This legacy software deteriorates as it is modified to satisfy new organizational requirements. Currently, legacy system maintenance requires more time than new system development. Eventually, legacy systems must be replaced. Identifying their functionality is a critical part of the replacement effort. Recovering functions from source code is difficult because the domain knowledge used to develop the system is not routinely retained. The source code is frequently the only reliable source of functional information.
This dissertation describes functional process information recovery from COBOL source code …
An Assessment Of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (Atm) Training For Educators, Dan A. Niswander
An Assessment Of Asynchronous Transfer Mode (Atm) Training For Educators, Dan A. Niswander
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this dissertation was to develop and evaluate a hypertext-based training tutorial/guide on asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) technology for use by school district educators and technology planners. A review of literature indicated training needs on new broadband technologies were not being adequately met from the point of view of an educational environment. An interactive hypertext solution was proposed, designed, and developed based on the needs of adult learners. An analysis of these needs indicated adults prefer flexibility in navigating between training topics as well as in the pace of material presentation, that is, whether to proceed at a …

Semiotics And Qualitative Research In Education: The Third Crossroad, Gary Shank
Semiotics And Qualitative Research In Education: The Third Crossroad, Gary Shank
The Qualitative Report
In this paper, I would like to show how qualitative research in education and semiotics can be brought together for the benefit of each field. Starting with attempts to define both qualitative research and semiotics in ways that can inform both disciplines, I hope to accomplish this task by mapping a series of three crossroads that define the past, present, and hopefully the future of the field.

Representative Research: A Qualitatively Driven Approach, Mark P. Combs
The Qualitative Report
Research methodologies represent complex sociohistorical evolutions within the social sciences ranging from reductionist to reflexive sensibilities (Tuchman, 1994). These inquiries each emphasize dissimilar variations of data analysis as found in their subsequent conclusions obtained from and during the research process. Unlike quantitative methodology with its explicit formulaic constructions, qualitative research includes a veritable cornucopia of methodologies, paradigms and methods. This paper briefly reviews those experiences encountered and processes which unfolded during a pilot project for a research class. Although Miller and Crabtree (1992) proposed a research roadmap with associated typologies within qualitative research, this paper focuses on the process of …
