A Microcomputer-Based Cia System Designed To Compliment Traditional Instruction In Navy Technical Training, John M. Kaiser
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
A prototype microcomputer-based CBI program was developed to provide review, structured self-study, and remediation to students undergoing initial skills training at the Naval Air Technical Training Center (NATTC), Lakehurst, NJ. The program demonstrates the capabilities of the authoring (LSAUT) and delivery (LSSTU) programs that are parts of the Language Skills Computer Aided Instruction (LSCAI) system developed by the Navy Personnel Research and Development Center and the University of Utah. A course of instruction at NATTC, Lakehurst was selected for this project on the basis of level of training, student throughput, attrition and setback rates, and category of learning objectives. A Model For Improving The Teaching Of Problem Solving At The Intermediate School Level, Philip Cull
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
This practicum was designed to provide teachers and their students with the problem-solving techniques and skills necessary for success in a problems course. The second aim was to develop a repertoire of problem-solving techniques that would have transfer circular application.
Teachers' and students' problem-solving skills were determined through reports from teleconferences, questionnaires, teacher observations, and student test project results. It was determined that a comprehensive list of heuristics for developing problem-solving strategies coupled with a model for emulation would provide the direction needed for the teachers and students. This was followed by a series of workshops which used role-playing, modeling, …

The problem addressed was that many women became pregnant in the Head Start program for the second, third, or more times and had received no or inadequate parental care. Many lacked the understanding of what constituted healthy conscience and quality prenatal care. Some of the low-expected women failed to see the relationship between adequate parental care and pregnancy outcomes.
The PES program operated for one and a half hours bi-monthly for eight months. A series of 15 sessions was conducted by medical professionals and educators to the benefits for the women and their unborn infants or use as incentives, along …
Significance Of Characteristic Psychological Indicators For Eating Disorders To Student Achievement Expectations And Student Success In Discrete University Student Populations, Susan L. Raab
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
Eating disorders are known to prevail in populations of college-aged women. Estimates of female university students who suffer from the disorder range from 4 to 20%, although cause and treatment are as yet controversial, deleterious effects have been documented. Selected psychological traits have commonly been found in individuals with eating disorders, affording an opportunity to profile these traits for potential dedication of effective individuals. Because these inventories are lengthy, time-consuming, and costly, the administration of these inventories is not feasible for large-scale screening. An alternative method of screening college students might be desirable.
The incidence of eating disorders have never …

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
The doctorate degree has been the prerequisite for a successful career in college teaching. Throughout history the educational elitists theory for educators has not been questioned, even though students populations and teaching styles have changed considerably over the years. In this study the results of student evaluations of faculty were used to determine whether the educational degree of a mathematics instructor at New York City Technical College was a significant factor in students perceptions of an instructor’s effectiveness.
During Spring, 1988 a ten-item student opinion survey was distributed to 738 students enrolled in forty-four mathematics classes. Fourteen classes were taught …

The AHE Matrix (Adult Health Education Matrix) is a conceptual model for the practice of client health education. It reintegrated the concept of patient education into the broader, more inclusive concept of health education utilizing the Preventative Intervention Theory, which includes the concepts of health promotion, restoration, and the rehabilitation as an organizing framework. The model is depicted diagrammatically and assumptions, definitions, and rationales were also formulated to provide an explanation of the relationship among the three components: Health, Client Health Education and Adult …
