New Species And Host Associations Of Commensal Leucothoid Amphipods From Coral Reefs In Florida And Belize (Crustacea:Amphipoda), James Darwin Thomas, Kristine N. Klebba

Marine & Environmental Sciences Faculty Articles

Six new amphipod species in the genus Leucothoe from the tropical western Atlantic Ocean are described and illustrated. Extensive field collecting and specialized underwater collecting techniques have documented 43 new invertebrate host records for these new taxa. Four of these new species inhabit interior canals of sponges; Leucothoe barana n.sp., Leucothoe garifunae n.sp., Leucothoe saron n.sp., and Leucothoe ubouhu n.sp. A remarkable new species, Leucothoe flammosa n.sp., nestles in the gills of seven species of bivalve mollusks. A single species, Leucothoe wuriti n.sp., appears restricted to the branchial chamber of two species of solitary ascidians. Detailed illustrations and scanning electron …

Lifetime Of Love, Erica Wallace

Undergraduate Student Symposium

This poem was written to express something that I rebel against in today’s society. I chose divorce because it is something that people overly turn to and is something I hope never to utilize.

Introduction Of An Emerging Technology Device Through Powerpoint® Training, Rebecca I. Estes, Jimmy H. Ishee Apr 2007

Introduction Of An Emerging Technology Device Through Powerpoint® Training, Rebecca I. Estes, Jimmy H. Ishee

Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice

Successful inclusion of assistive technology in intervention is limited by training and the level of comfort with technology of treating occupational therapists. Experienced and new therapists need exposure and training on high technology assistive devices newly introduced on the market. The purpose of the study was to identify the effect of a PowerPoint presentation to introduce an emerging high technology device on two groups: 30 licensed occupational therapists and 27 students in an entry level master of occupational therapy program. The PowerPoint developed introduced and educated participants on the Assistive Dining Device. Participants completed a demographic form, the Survey of …

The Effects Of Zinc On Gene Expression In Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Using Polymerase Chain Reaction (Pcr) For Six Candidate Genes, Niketha Ajodha, Ruzeen Patwa Mar 2007

The Effects Of Zinc On Gene Expression In Saccharomyces Cerevisiae Using Polymerase Chain Reaction (Pcr) For Six Candidate Genes, Niketha Ajodha, Ruzeen Patwa

Undergraduate Student Symposium

In this experiment the effects of various concentrations of zinc on Saccharomyces cerevisiae will be investigated using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR). Zinc (Zn) is one of the most naturally occurring elements. It is an important integral cofactor for many cellular activities. Zinc participates in all major biochemical reactions such as transcription of DNA and translation of RNA. More than three hundred enzymes require zinc for their catalytic function. Saccharomyces cerevisiae strain S288C is a species of budding yeast. It is the most intensively studied eukaryotic model in molecular and cell biology. The mRNA from these yeast cells grown in different …

Qualitative Research In Counseling: A Reflection For Novice Counselor Researchers, Randolph Bowers, Victor Minichiello, David Plummer Mar 2007

Qualitative Research In Counseling: A Reflection For Novice Counselor Researchers, Randolph Bowers, Victor Minichiello, David Plummer

The Qualitative Report

Counselors practice in a wide range of disciplines, but also represent a distinct discipline separate from medicine, psychology, and social work. Particularly in countries like Australia, Canada, and the Asia Pacific nations, as a relatively new field, counseling is taking up the challenges of encouraging a research culture that can both critique and support clinical practice and counselor education. This paper is thus written to support novice counselor researchers, and to inspire an emerging research culture through sharing formative experiences and lessons learned during a qualitative research project exploring minority issues in counseling.

On Becoming A Qualitative Researcher: The Value Of Reflexivity, Diane Watt Mar 2007

On Becoming A Qualitative Researcher: The Value Of Reflexivity, Diane Watt

The Qualitative Report

Learning how to conduct qualitative research may seem daunting for those new to the task, especially given the paradigm ’s emphasis on complexity and emergent design. Although there are guidelines in the literature, each project is unique and ultimately the individual researcher must determine how best to proceed . Reflexivity is thus considered essential, potentially facilitating understanding of both the phenomenon under study and the research process itself . Drawing upon the contents of a reflective journal, the author provides an inside view of a first project, making connections between theory and practice. This personal narrative highlights the value of …
