For purposes of this analysis, "civil commitment" is a form of noncriminal

confinement for those who are legally found to be mentally

ill.1 With the minor exception of rare confinement for some communicable

physical illness.

Incarceration As A Condition Of Probation: New Limitations, James E. Morgan Iii

Nova Law Review

In the past, Florida judges have attempted to circumvent a parole

policy, which they considered to be ineffective. They withheld imposition

of sentence upon a defendant found guilty of the crime for which

he was charged, and imposed an order of probation with the condition

that the defendant serve a lengthy term in the county jail or state penitentiary.

An Interview With Jeremiah Pangloss-A Prelude To The Constitutional Debate, Ovid C. Lewis

Nova Law Review

Given the complex nature of nuclear weapons strategy for instituting

W.W. II,-a subject (survival) for which most of us display intense

feelings that tend to cloud our objectivity-I decided to ask my

illustrious friend Dr. Jeremiah Pangloss, to write an introductory piece

for this symposium.

Nuclear Weapons And Constitutional Law, Arthur S. Miller

contributes an impressive example in his article, Nuclear

Weapons and Constitutional Law.

Nuclear War: The End Of Law, Milner S. Ball Jan 1982

Nuclear War: The End Of Law, Milner S. Ball

Nova Law Review

Professor Miller summons us to consider the constitutionality of

nuclear weapons. In doing so, he has made an original, provocative contribution

to constitutional jurisprudence as well as the humanizing

politics of nuclear arms control. He speaks with scholarly responsibility

on a subject that has heretofore engendered either silence or nonsense

and bombast.

Wisdom, Constitutionality, And Nuclear Weapons Policy, Dean Alfange Jr. Jan 1982

Wisdom, Constitutionality, And Nuclear Weapons Policy, Dean Alfange Jr.

Nova Law Review

In a well-known passage in his famous dissent in the flag-salute

case of 1943, Justice Felix Frankfurter wrote:

Our constant preoccupation with the constitutionality of legislation

rather than with its wisdom tends to preoccupation of the American

mind with a false value. The tendency of focussing attention on

constitutionality is to make constitutionality synonymous with wisdom,

to regard a law as all right if it is constitutional. Such an

attitude is a great enemy of liberalism. . . . Reliance for the most

precious interests of civilization, therefore, must be found outside

of their vindication in courts of law.

Admirable Ends-Ineffective Means, Iredell Jenkins Jan 1982

Admirable Ends-Ineffective Means, Iredell Jenkins

Nova Law Review

agree, of course, with the thrust of Professor Miller's paper and

with the conclusion at which he arrives. There can be no question that

nuclear weapons pose a threat not only to civilization and to all human

beings, but even to the life process itself.

Lawyers Can, But Law May Be Unable To Contribute To Nuclear Weapons Debate, L. Harold Levinson Jan 1982

Lawyers Can, But Law May Be Unable To Contribute To Nuclear Weapons Debate, L. Harold Levinson

Nova Law Review

Professor Miller concludes that "law and lawyers have something

useful to contribute to the growing debate about nuclear war." I agree

that lawyers can make a useful contribution. Whether the law can

make a contribution is quite another matter, on which I have serious

doubts.

Nuclear Weapons: Unconstitutional Or Just Unjust?, Gary L. Mcdowell Jan 1982

Nuclear Weapons: Unconstitutional Or Just Unjust?, Gary L. Mcdowell

Nova Law Review

Before one can reasonably assess Professor Miller's argument in

"Nuclear Weapons and Constitutional Law," a fundamental distinction

needs to be drawn. That distinction is between the Constitution and

constitutional law. For Professor Miller, there is no Constitution beyond

constitutional law; the Constitution is only what the judges say it

is - no more, no less.

The Effect Of Theophylline On Intestinal Bicarbonate Transport Measured By Ph Stat In Amphiuma, Michael A. Imon, John F. White Dec 1981

The Effect Of Theophylline On Intestinal Bicarbonate Transport Measured By Ph Stat In Amphiuma, Michael A. Imon, John F. White

Department of Anesthesia Faculty Articles

1. The influence of theophylline on the mucosa to serosa and serosa to mucosa fluxes of HCO3- were measured by the pH stat technique in isolated segments of proximal small intestine from Amphiuma maintained under short-circuited conditions. The mucosal or serosal fluid was exposed to media containing 25 mM-HCO3- (pH 7.4) while the pH of unbuffered media in the opposite compartment was maintained by addition of acid. 2. Theophylline significantly increased the secretory flux of HCO3- and significantly reduced the absorptive flux when measured in Cl- -free (SO4(2-)) media. 3. In normal media theophylline did not alter the secretory flux …

Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive

It was the purpose of this study to plan a promotional strategy for the Library/Instructional Media Technology program at Cuyahoga Community College. This strategy consisted of developing a professional-looking brochure for the program, establishing distribution places for the brochure, and arranging for news releases and other publicity to complement the distribution of the brochure.

Procedures included the actual steps of developing a program brochure from inception to the finished product. A major consideration in writing copy for the brochure was a survey of students currently enrolled in the program. The primary purpose of the survey was to determine what types …
