Noise And Complexity In Human Postural Control: Interpreting The Different Estimations Of Entropy, C. K. Rhea, Tobin A. Silver, S. L. Hong, J. H. Ryu, B. E. Studenka, C. Hughes, J. Haddad
Department of Health and Human Performance Faculty Articles
Background
Over the last two decades, various measures of entropy have been used to examine the complexity of human postural control. In general, entropy measures provide information regarding the health, stability and adaptability of the postural system that is not captured when using more traditional analytical techniques. The purpose of this study was to examine how noise, sampling frequency and time series length influence various measures of entropy when applied to human center of pressure (CoP) data, as well as in synthetic signals with known properties. Such a comparison is necessary to interpret data between and within studies that use …

The Effect Of Wisdom In Organizations On Team Cohesiveness, Interpersonal Trust, And Intrinsic Job Satisfaction, Partially Mediated By Emotional Intelligence, Charles Dean Oden
The Effect Of Wisdom In Organizations On Team Cohesiveness, Interpersonal Trust, And Intrinsic Job Satisfaction, Partially Mediated By Emotional Intelligence, Charles Dean Oden
HCBE Theses and Dissertations
Wisdom, though ancient in concept, has only recently grown in empirical research. Often seen as the pinnacle of human development, wisdom includes the key aspects of exceptional insight, reflection, discernment, knowledge, and judgment, which are required for guiding the long-term future of an organization. Wisdom is believed to enhance an organization's ability to work towards multiple goals simultaneously, assist in appropriately assigning priorities, and lessen the organization's reliance on guidance or rules. Utilizing simultaneous regression analysis, available through partial least squares modeling, this research study included 230 full time non-instructional staff from both a traditional university setting and numerous branch …

Kathy Cerminara, Schiavo Revisited? The Struggle for Autonomy at the End of Life in Italy, 12 Marquette University Elder's Advisor 295 (2011). Politically strident debates surrounding end-of-life decisionmaking have surfaced once again, this time across the Atlantic in Italy. Eluana Englaro died early this year after a prolonged court fight, causing the international press to compare her case to that of Theresa Marie Schiavo, who passed away in 2005 in Florida after nearly sparking constitutional crises on both state and federal levels. In many respects, the facts of Ms. Englaro’s case are similar to Schiavo, but a close analysis …
The Fifth Freedom: The Constitutional Duty To Provide Public Education, Areto Imoukhuede
The Fifth Freedom: The Constitutional Duty To Provide Public Education, Areto Imoukhuede
Faculty Scholarship
“The fifth freedom is freedom from ignorance. It means that every[one], everywhere, should be free to develop his [or her] talents to their full potential – unhampered by arbitrary barriers of race or birth or income.” Lyndon B. Johnson This article argues that education is a fundamental human right that the U.S. Supreme Court has failed to recognize because of the Court’s bias towards negative, rather than positive rights. Viewed from the limited perspective of rights as liberties, the concern with declaring a fundamental right to education is that education legislation would be strictly scrutinized, thus causing the undesired result …

Women In Transition: Experiences Of Asian Women International Students On U.S. College Campuses, Siva Jeyabalasingam
Women In Transition: Experiences Of Asian Women International Students On U.S. College Campuses, Siva Jeyabalasingam
Department of Family Therapy Dissertations and Applied Clinical Projects
Often referred to as people in transition, international students usually arrive in the U.S. with a clear sense of their academic goals; however, they often have not considered what their lives will be like or how they may change in non-academic ways. In addition to the typical level of university-related stress, international students face additional problems and difficulties generated in part by the cultural differences between the U.S. and their own countries. This is particularly true for Asian students. Of several studies that have investigated the experiences of international students in the U.S., only a handful have examined Asian students' …

The Impact Of An Osteopathic Medical Program On Information Technology Skills Of Physicians Entering The Workforce, Stephen Edward Bronsburg
The Impact Of An Osteopathic Medical Program On Information Technology Skills Of Physicians Entering The Workforce, Stephen Edward Bronsburg
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
Increasingly, the health care field is utilizing information technology (IT) to help manage large volumes of medical data. This has created a need for health care workers to learn IT skills, which include information gathering skills (IGS), information analysis skills (IAS), and technology skills (TS). Research focused on medical students learning IT skills seems limited, while research focused on IT skills, age, and gender appear contradictory. Research suggests that physicians lack necessary health care industry specific IT skills.
The survey instrument used the three aforementioned skills (IGS, IAS, & TS), based on the Learning Skills Profile (LSP), to measure IT …

Could Self-Efficacy Relate To Workforce Issues For Rural Physiotherapists With A Specialist Paediatric Caseload? A Literature Review, Monica Minisini, Lorraine Sheppard, Anne Jones
Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice
Rural physiotherapists may need to extend their skills to address the lack of allied health service provision in rural areas but will do so based on their perceived self-efficacy. This narrative review aims to understand self-efficacy amongst rural physiotherapists and contributing factors to self-efficacy, especially in the specialised area of paediatrics.Method: A search of the literature was undertaken to understand the self-efficacy of rural physiotherapists who are expected to undertake specialist paediatric cases. Databases searched included CINAHL, PEDro, Informit, Proquest, PubMed, and Ovid. Articles were assessed for quality in accordance with the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) evidence …
