Data-Centric Technoloiges: Patent And Copyright Doctrinal Disruptions, Tabrez Y. Ebrahim
Nova Law Review
Data-centric technologies create information content that directly controls, modifies, or responds to the physical world. This information content resides in the digital world yet has profound economic and societal impact in the physical world. 3D printing and artificial intelligence are examples of data-centric technologies. 3D printing utilizes digital data for eventual printing of physical goods. Artificial intelligence learns from data sets to make predictions or automated decisions for use in physical applications and systems. 3D printing and artificial intelligence technologies are based on digital foundations, blur the digital and physical divide, and dramatically improve physical goods, objects, products, or systems. …

Family Environment And Pediatric Sickle Cell Disease: Patterns Of Health Care Utilization And Academic Achievement, Joanna Tsikis
Family Environment And Pediatric Sickle Cell Disease: Patterns Of Health Care Utilization And Academic Achievement, Joanna Tsikis
Theses and Dissertations
Sickle cell disease (SCD) is the most common group of genetic, chronic hematologic disorders, and is characterized by chronic pain resulting from vaso-occlusive episodes. As such, youth with SCD utilize a disproportionately high amount of health care resources. Youth with frequent health care utilization (HCU) are at increased risk for psychosocial consequences, including disruptions in family functioning and decreased academic performance. While studies have separately examined HCU, family functioning, and academic achievement in this population, there is a dearth of research examining the association between these variables. The present study aimed to: (1) examine associations between family environment and patterns …

Possible Pathologic Effect Of Hmgb1 On P. Gingivalis Induced Inflammatory Response By Macrophages, Michelle Marie Torres Santos
Possible Pathologic Effect Of Hmgb1 On P. Gingivalis Induced Inflammatory Response By Macrophages, Michelle Marie Torres Santos
Student Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
BACKGROUND: Periodontitis is an inflammatory disease caused by poly-microbial infection that leads to destruction of connective tissue and alveolar bone. It is well documented that bacteria-derived virulent factors that can act on Toll-like receptors (TLRs), represented by Lipopolysaccharides (LPS), are engaged in the initiation of inflammatory responses. However, while LPS is also produced by the bacteria colonized in the healthy periodontal tissue, inflammation is not induced by LPS in those periodontal healthy subjects, suggesting the requirement of additional factor to upregulate the LPS-mediated inflammatory response in periodontal tissue. Recent studies revealed that novel class of endogenous proinflammatory mediator, high mobility …
Influence Of Clinical Instructor And Physical Therapist Student Characteristics On The Use Of Standardized Tests And Measures In Clinical Practice, Vicki Lafay
Department of Physical Therapy Student Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Problem Statement: Physical therapist (PT) students report discord between what they learn in the academic environment and what they experience in clinical practice. Despite increasing reporting requirements, standardized tests and measures (STMs) are not well integrated into routine clinical practice. The primary purposes of this study were to (1) examine clinical instructor (CI) and PT student characteristics and beliefs that influence the use of STMs in clinical practice, and (2) explore alignment between the STMs students learn during academic preparation to those commonly reported in clinical practice. Procedures/Methodology: In this mixed method sequential explanatory study, participant demographic characteristics, perceived STM …

Philippine-Based Filipino Women And Breast Cancer, Elizabeth S. Azutillo
Student Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Background. The rate of breast cancer incidence in the Philippines has increased in recent years. Three out of 100 Filipino women will contract breast cancer before age 75; one out of 100 will die before age 75. Purpose. The study was used to determine the level of knowledge of the respondents about breast cancer and breast cancer screening modalities, the relationship of the level of knowledge and frequency of breast self-examination (BSE) performance; the predictive ability of their health perceptions; modifying variables for their intent to perform BSE, submit to screening mammography, and engage in clinical breast exam (CBE); their …
Likability And Efficacy Of Gummy Oral Sedative By Pediatric Patients, Marisol Carbonell
Likability And Efficacy Of Gummy Oral Sedative By Pediatric Patients, Marisol Carbonell
Student Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Background: Behavior guidance of the pediatric patient remains a challenge in dentistry and may require pharmaceutical interventions. Midazolam and hydroxyzine oral syrups are predictable and frequently used for in-office sedations in pediatric dentistry. However, midazolam’s bitter taste and hydroxyzine’s large volume make administration problematic for uncooperative children. The purpose of this project was to compare the use of soft-chewable gummies containing sedatives to the oral syrups currently used in conscious sedation. The aim of this project was to administer midazolam and hydroxyzine in gummy form and determine if this alternative vessel is as effective and better liked by children undergoing …
Enhancing The Sublingual Permeability Of Atropine Sulfate: Effect Of Ph And Penetration Enhancers, Rawan Saeed Bafail
Enhancing The Sublingual Permeability Of Atropine Sulfate: Effect Of Ph And Penetration Enhancers, Rawan Saeed Bafail
Student Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Atropine Sulfate (AS) auto-injector (AtroPen®) is being used as an effective and safe antidote for the treatment of organophosphate (OP) pesticides or nerve gas poisoning. The use of AtroPen® is associated with several drawbacks including: bulky size, availability, affordability, invasiveness, and administration errors. Previously, AS fast disintegrating sublingual tablets (FDSTs) were developed and the feasibility of AS sublingual permeability were demonstrated. However, AS permeability was delayed due to the negative impact of higher doses of AS on FDST’s physical characteristics. Therefore, the aim in this research project was to optimize the previously developed AS FDSTs. It was hypothesized that optimizing …

Trigger Point Dry Needling, Manual Therapy And Exercise Versus Manual Therapy And Exercise For The Management Of Achilles Tendinopathy: A Feasibility Study, Alex Michael Koszalinski
Department of Physical Therapy Student Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Background: The effect of trigger point dry needling (TDN) on myofascial trigger points (MTP) in Achilles tendinopathy are unknown. Objectives: To determine the feasibility of a large randomized controlled trial (RCT) to compare the effects of TDN to exercise in a patient population with Achilles tendinopathy. Methods: This single-factor, pretest-posttest control group design included 22 subjects between the ages of 24 and 65 years with Achilles tendinopathy. Subjects were randomly assigned to either a control group (MT+Ex) or experimental group (TDN+MT+Ex). Subjects in both groups completed 8 physical therapy treatment sessions over 4 weeks. The intervention for the TDN+MT+Ex group …
The Influence Of Abutment Macro-Design On Peri-Implant Tissue Dimensions For Guided Placed And Restored Implants: A 1-Year Randomized Controlled Trial And Cbct Analysis, Abdulaziz Ali
Student Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Introduction: For optimal dental implant esthetics the transition of a circumferential implant platform to a proper cervical anatomy has been emphasized. This transition is facilitated by the macro-design of the transmucosal portion of the abutment-restoration complex at the provisional and final stages of implant prosthetic therapy. There is limited information from human studies assessing the impact of abutment macro-design on peri-implant tissue dimensional changes. Aim: The aim was to evaluate the peri-implant tissue levels over a 1-year period for implants connected to either convex or concave final abutments at the time of implant placement. Methods: Twenty-eight patients with one missing …

BIO4950: Internship in Biology
This paper aims to investigate the principle methodology behind extraction and detection of an anti-cancer drug from brain samples via the high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method. In order to assess the efficiency of the methodology carried out in the Rumbaugh-Goodwin Institute of Cancer Research (RGI), numerous peer-reviewed journals and articles were analyzed over the duration of this internship. They were filtered on the basis of inclusion of keywords, date written, peer-reviewed credibility, and similarity to RGI’s research. The literature that has been chosen to be reviewed includes studies that present similar methodologies or test drugs with similar functions. From …
