The L.E.G.A.C.Y.® Appreciative Life Review Model: A Framework And Process To Develop Psychosocial Resources In Emerging And Young Adulthood, Nicole Onori Hansen
Occupational Therapy Program Student Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
This project introduces the L.E.G.A.C.Y. appreciative life review model (L.E.G.A.C.Y.) and provides preliminary evidence for its feasibility with emerging adults in a higher education context. L.E.G.A.C.Y. is the first model to integrate appreciative inquiry as well as a retrospective-prospective framework and experiential elements into the life review process. Increased rates of mental health disorders, underdeveloped psychosocial resources, and limited independent living skills have resulted in significant role impairments and poor adjustment to college. Conceptual development of the L.E.G.A.C.Y. model and the results of a quasi-experimental pilot study that investigated its effectiveness with agroup of college students (N = 17) are …

Developmental Stepping Stones, Couri S. Taylor
Occupational Therapy Program Student Theses, Dissertations and Capstones
Background: Healthy child development is imperative for future success, parents/caregivers are at the helm of guiding children down a path that supports health and wellbeing for future success. When there is a lack of education, information, and resources readily available to families there is a risk for delayed development and lack of engagement. For many of our clients, health literacy is low, vulnerability is high, and they often feel cornered with no other available choices. Making it easier not to engage in certain activities, due to lack of opportunities, resources, and/or education. This lack of participation has a significant impact …

Premature infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) may experience extensive hospitalizations due to prematurity and medical complications requiring interventions to sustain life and support physiological development. NICU staff are often focused on immediate medical concerns for these infants and may not consider the development and play needs for these long term hospitalized infants. Occupational therapists are aware of the importance of play and supporting the parental role and co-occupations between the infant and parents. This capstone paper discusses the Shaping the Lives of Little Ones Developmental Equipment Project for infants, nurses, and parents designed to provide opportunities for …

A Framework For Artificial Intelligence Applications In The Healthcare Revenue Management Cycle, Leonard J. Pounds
CCAC Theses and Dissertations
There is a lack of understanding of specific risks and benefits associated with AI/RPA implementations in healthcare revenue cycle settings. Healthcare companies are confronted with stricter regulations and billing requirements, underpayments, and more significant delays in receiving payments. Despite the continued interest of practitioners, revenue cycle management has not received much attention in research. Revenue cycle management is defined as the process of identifying, collecting, and managing the practice’s revenue from payers based on the services provided. This dissertation provided contributions to both areas, as mentioned above. To accomplish this, a semi-structured interview was distributed to healthcare executives. The semi-structured interview …

Black Couples Filtering Their Love Stories Through The Use Of Social Media, Jeff Rocker
Department of Family Therapy Dissertations and Applied Clinical Projects
Black couples' use of social media for expressing their emotions needs to be explored to help them develop their narratives without external pressure. Narrative therapy is used to understand the difficulties ofholding on to unique personal narratives and preferred futures in the context of a hostile dominant discourse. The Black community has a long history of oppression, which makes their stories significant. Thus, social media posts by successful Black couples can be helpful in developing a new theory explaining personal narratives of Black couples in an online environment. These narratives provide information regarding themost common problems faced by Black people …

Genomic Education – Bench To Bedside: A Novel Approach To Teaching Genetic Diagnosis, J. Keith Williams, Michael M. Segal, Lynn K. Feldman
Genomic Education – Bench To Bedside: A Novel Approach To Teaching Genetic Diagnosis, J. Keith Williams, Michael M. Segal, Lynn K. Feldman
Internet Journal of Allied Health Sciences and Practice
Problem: Teaching genetic diagnosis is required in all medical schools and physician assistant programs. However, with thousands of relevant findings and thousands more rare diseases, lectures and narrative resources are inadequate for the task. Whatever information that is taught is easily forgotten and does not carry over into the clinic. Many rare disease patients suffer through “diagnostic odysseys” (3 to 30 years to correct diagnosis). Approach: We used a commercially available diagnostic decision support system (DDSS) that encompasses all Mendelian disorders with known genes, together with other conditions in their differential diagnosis, and a case-based educational approach to teach diagnostic …

The human microbiome has been shown to play a role in the regulation of human health, behavior, and disease. Data suggests that microorganisms that co-evolved within humans have an enhanced ability to prevent the development of a large spectrum of immune-related disorders but may also lead to the onset of conditions when homeostasis is disrupted. In many conditions, a link between dysbiosis (microbial imbalance or microbiome upset) has been identified and associated with immune conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis (RA). This review provides insight into how an individual’s unique microbiome, combined with a genetic predisposition and environmental factors may lead …

Context-Responsive Equitable Strategies For Developing Gender-Responsive Curriculums In Nepal, Parbati Dhungana Ms, Roshani Rajbanshi, Lina Gurung
Transformations
We argue that context-responsive equitable strategies support the development of a gender-responsive curriculum in the context of higher education in Nepal. This paper is our reflective journey of curriculum content analysis of the two Master’s programs (Mathematics and English) from an inclusive cultural perspective of gender which engaged us to explore the answer to the question- How can we develop a gender-responsive curriculum? Adapting inclusive cultural perspective and participatory design we engaged with students and faculties and management representatives in the process of gender mainstreaming through action-reflection cycles. Further, we braided discussion with poetry, that is, a poetic inquiry to …
