The Development Of A Model Plan For Support-Services Programs For Reentry Students In The California Community Colleges, Elizabeth Hansen Wright
The Development Of A Model Plan For Support-Services Programs For Reentry Students In The California Community Colleges, Elizabeth Hansen Wright
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
Large numbers of students who are 26 years of age or older, are enrolling in California community colleges to seek educational opportunities that will bring them job and coping skills, employment training, financial security, and emotional stability. These students, many of whom are between the ages of 26 and 49, may be classified as reentry students. The definition used in this study for a reentry student is a student 26 years of age or older who returns to or enters an institution of higher education after an absence of five or more years from a formal educational program.
The purpose …

Biology Faculty Articles
Twenty-seven independent polymorphic loci were detected by two-dimensional electrophoresis (2DE) of serum, erythrocytes, and fibroblasts in two large families and analyzed for linkage to classical genetic markers. We detected seven serum, four erythrocyte, and 17 fibroblast protein loci that exhibited charge variation in these two families and in a sample of unrelated individuals. The genetic basis of protein variants was confirmed by quantitative gene-dosage dependence and by conformance to Mendelian transmission in the two families, except for four rare variants for which transmission analysis was not possible. Linkage analysis demonstrated that each of the variants represent products of independent loci, …

The Development And Evaluation Of A High School Law Education Unit, Gail Kennedy
The Development And Evaluation Of A High School Law Education Unit, Gail Kennedy
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
The author developed and implemented a Law Education Unit in a metropolitan high school setting to promote the knowledge of law and the legal system of 130 high school seniors. The unit’s sims were to enable the student to identify sources of law, to describe how our legal system work and how individual rights and obligations are interrelated, to describe the consequences to the individual and society of disobeying the law and the personal and social values of obeying it, to define legal concepts, and to identify important Supreme Court decisions.
The unit contained four basic components: introducing law, exploring …
The Identification Of Right Brain Children And The Application Of Teaching Strategies To Improve Their Academic Achievement, Barbara B. Stutes
The Identification Of Right Brain Children And The Application Of Teaching Strategies To Improve Their Academic Achievement, Barbara B. Stutes
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
The author identified students with a right brain dominance through surveys and questionnaires. These students' past academic records were scrutinized and on the basis of repetitive low test scores, poor social and scholastic achievement and a pattern of apathetic behavior, a target group of five students was compiled for this study. Based on their mode dominance, a series of teaching strategies were created to strengthen the dominant mode and stretch the subdominant mode. The strategies were formulated for daily implementation and were specific activities that called on reaction from either the left or right hemisphere of the brain, and the …

A Comparison Of The Characteristics Of Successful And Non-Successful Associate Degree Nursing Students, Kenneth E. Digby
A Comparison Of The Characteristics Of Successful And Non-Successful Associate Degree Nursing Students, Kenneth E. Digby
Abraham S. Fischler College of Education ETD Archive
Applications for enrollment in the Associate Degree Nursing program at Fayetteville Technical Institute have for several years far exceeded the number of students who could be accommodated. During this same period. attrition from the program was among the highest of the nursing schools in North Carolina. The problem that must be fated is how to improve the qualified applicant pool without jeopardizing open access. If an objective means for screening candidates could be determined, the selection process could be improved and those candidates with the greater potential for success in the program and graduation would be admitted. An awareness of …
